Prismal Journey is a 3D Action-Adventure platforming game produced by Seashiba Studios and released on Steam, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game was inspired by several platformers such as Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, and A Hat in Time, while also focusing on a side of combat.
Story[]
The game begins with the telling of a story in which involves a young and aspiring yet somewhat idiotic hero going to slay a dragon and to save a princess, only to be beaten by a more courageous and smart warrior. Afterwards, it pans back to reveal a rather bored Kimmi reading a book in a medieval-like classroom. The bell rings, and a wave of students flood out of the school, with our grey-colored protagonist being the last to leave. Feeling a little brave today, he decides to explore the nearby forest, but before doing that, he first goes to the local Dojo, where the combat aspect of the tutorial begins.
After leaving the dojo and nearly getting beaten up by a gang of bullies, he follows the path to the forest, but first has to cross the Leaflet Plains, which acts as the "platforming and adventure" aspect of the tutorial. Eventually, he finds a dark cave in the middle of the forest and decides to explore it. A pile of various treasures lay at the end of the cavern, alongside some strange cave paintings engraved on the walls. A shiny red Zaphyr Prism catches the Kimmi's attention, who tries to claim the crystal for himself, only to be stopped by an azure blue, genie-like spirit.
Upon noticing the small but menacing spirit, he immediately begs for mercy. In response, the spirit cynically snatches the crystal out of his hand but makes up for it by telling the young soul about being the bold hero of an ancient prophecy, as prescribed on the cave walls. If he accepts the deal, he must travel all the way to Prismalia's capital island, Kummitopia, and must fight a powerful and wicked guardian in order to reunite all the islands into one. If not, he claims the world is at risk of breaking its harmony between Kimmis. Being the naive soul he is, the grey Kimmi accepts their offer, and begins their journey.
Gameplay[]
Prismal Journey centers around an archipelago of several floating islands known as Prismalia, inhabited by carefree silhouette-like creatures called Kimmis. The player controls a young, greyish-colored and adventurous Kimmi named Rei, tricked by a secretly malicious spirit into believing they're the hero of a false prophecy and freeing them. They are placed in a huge, explorable world divided into ten regions, including the player's hometown, the majority of which require a certain amount of Zaphyr Prisms in order to gain access to. Since all of the prisms are tracked in total, regardless of where they were collected, the player can unlock all of the latter in a unique order, which would sometimes change the ongoing narrative.
Each region is based off of an element in the Prismalian world (with the exception of Kummitopia), as well as having a friendly HUB world safe from enemies and occupied by several NPCs, as well as notable attractions that'll help with the player's journey. Each region also has a total of about 30 Zaphyr Prisms earned through various methods, such as a minigame or quest. In addition to Zaphyr Prisms, which are the main collectable of the game, the player can also rack up Shards, which are smaller, more bountiful currencies that can be used to buy items and Runes.
Characters[]
Major[]
Name | Description |
---|---|
Rei | A young, dark-greyish Kimmi aspiring to be a fearless warrior. Maybe a little too aspiring, as he is manipulated by Gregorius into breaking the core of Kummitopia itself, freeing the avenging spirit. |
Gregorius | An often sarcastic but egotistical azure-colored spirit who is Rei's partner throughout his adventure. However, it is revealed later on that he made up a false prophecy in order to free himself. |
Cloud | A smart, light-blue Kimmi who at first is seemingly Rei's rival trying to stop him from uniting the kingdoms for no good reason. In reality though, she's aware of his masked schemes and is just trying to protect the core. She is also the main protagonist of the game's DLC story mode, Cotton Trail. |
Sir Andreas | A fearless Kimmi paladin who barely saves Rei from falling into Greg's clutches after his freeing. Previously, he was foreshadowed several times as a famous legend across the archipelago, as well as Rei's idol. |
NPCS[]
Name | Description |
---|---|
Sid | A considerably greedy travelling merchant that sells various items and potions. Occasionally, he will hold auctions and whoever offers the will have to pay the price until three days. |
Petra | A wise and collected oracle who sells charms and occasionally gives small gameplay advice. She was once a childhood friend of Sir Andreas who encouraged him to follow his passions, but has seen been left behind. |
Charlie Carnation | A jolly and sometimes mischievous Kimmi who runs the GOTCHA lotto. While seemingly innocent at first, there were rumors across Prismalia that he was scamming victims buying his Carnation Boxes. |
Rustrunners | The MANY small nephews and nieces of Cloud who like to challenge anyone to a race. They are multi-colored Kimmis with small pointy horns and a white scarf with a golden lightning bolt around their necks. |
Cones | A special teal Rustrunner and a distant relative of Cloud who keeps track of the Rustrunning leaderboard. He's also the self-acclaimed official founder of the "sport." |

Locations[]
Main Regions[]
Region | Description | Prisms Required |
---|---|---|
Paw-Paw Creek | Central region of the Instinct element, as well as the first one that can be unlocked normally. It also features the most varied of wild and partially uncivilized biomes, due to the majority of its Kimmi residents' passion towards their neighboring animal peers. | 5 |
Mossy Woodlands | Central region of the Plant element, filled to the brim with looming vegetation and a flowing ecosystem. Its tree-hugging residents cherish the lush, natural company of their green companions. | 8 |
Starry Tundra | Central region of the Frost element leading all the way to a rather frisky and aloof snow mountain about 50 miles tall, despite being called a "Tundra." It name picks on the aurora night sky always covering this area's magical dome. | 10 |
Tattered Canyon | Central region of the Earth element, as well as an unusual and surprisingly fitting mix of a desert, mesa, and a mountain range. Due to its lack of vegetation and rainfall, many of its "residents" are nomadic. | 12 |
Trader's Bay | Central region for the Water element and a tropical-themed area with its main center being the main port located on a coastline. As its name suggests, this is an abundant space for trading and economy. | 15 |
Zenn Scarra | Central region of the Spirit element, and an asian-inspired area flourished with stunning cherry trees and flowing rivers. This place is said to be the origin of Kimmi civilization, which is still present to this day. | 18 |
Islands[]
Island | Description | Prisms Required |
---|---|---|
Frog Valley | Despite being called "Frog Valley," which was commonly associated with swamps and wet sloppy things, it's actually more like a fantastical meadow, welcoming to adventurers just starting their bold careers. It is also the hometown of Rei. | Initial |
Items[]
Collectibles[]
Item | Description |
---|---|
Zaphyr Prisms | Precious glowing jewels of varying vivid colors, as well as the main collectable of the game. They are used to unlock, or could even be donated in exchange for Shards if you're risky enough. |
Shards | Smaller, diamond-shaped versions of Zaphyr Crystals, acting as the secondary but most abundant collectable in the game. They can be used for various uses, such as items and runes. |
Rox Tops | Multicolored, often yellow paper tickets that can be used to buy special Carnation Boxes, offering various items by chance and possibly exclusive runes. Totally anything but a loot box, that's for sure! |
Runes[]
Rune | Description |
---|---|
Swift Shadow | Gives the player a quick boost forward. At this point, an overused move for indie games, but it helps for further travels anyway! |
DLC[]
See Prismal Joruney/Dawn of Celestia DLC.
