Zog the Eternal is a Cursed Uruk from the Mystic Tribe and a major antagonist in the videogame Middle-Earth: Shadow of War.
He was voiced by Nolan North, who also voiced Isildur in the same game, The Black Hand of Sauron in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Dr. Edward Richtofen in the Call of Duty series, Modi in God of War, David in The Last of Us, Martin Walker in Spec Ops: The Line, and many others.
Biography[]
In the game where most of the enemies are randomly generated and unique to each playthrough, Zog the Eternal is an exception to that rule. He is an ambitious Uruk sorcerer who learned at the hand of the Dark Lord Sauron himself and is attempting to call back the Balrog Tar-Goroth in the hopes of pleasing his master.
Suffice it to say, Talion and Celebrimbor work against Zog's efforts, though they are unable to keep him from awakening the beast in full. Even when he is killed, Zog is able to return again and again via his powers of necromancy, as well as revive Uruks already slain by Talion. He is keen on learning the arts of Sauron's predecessor Morgoth and manages to bring back to life many of his fallen followers to fight in his army.
Eventually, he grew tired of being a loyal servant of another and began secretly plotting against his master. Tar Goroth is defeated, and he decides to resurrect the creature, but this time he plans to sway the demon into betraying Sauron and aiding him. Eventually though, after the creature is destroyed, Zog is apparently killed.
He comes back to life in Minas Morgul with the help of his acolytes and tells them of his scheme to supplant Sauron as the new Dark Lord with an army that shall not be rivaled in all of Mordor. Talion and Celebrimbor manage to defeat the resurrected Uruk captains before confronting the sorcerer himself. He was killed and his remains burned by Carnán in the form of a fire-drake, ending the threat of Zog. However, Zog can return to attack Talion across the regions of Mordor, but will eventually stop being resurrected.

Trivia[]
- As already stated, he is one of the only unique Uruks/Orcs in the game who will always appear in every playthrough.
- Due to his having the unusual attribute "Unbreakable", he cannot be recruited the way most other Uruks can be, and so must be slain.
- His being an outwardly charming, charismatic sorcerer who secretly plots to betray Sauron for his own ends only to be defeated by Man, brings to mind Saruman the White, who has a similar story in the books.
- He has glowing yellow eyes that strongly resemble those possessed by characters who have fallen to the Dark Side in Star Wars. Talion himself gains a similar set of eyes towards the end of the game's story. This signifies his close relationship with his master: the Dark Lord Sauron.
