El Diablo (Beverly Hills Chihuahua)

El Diablo is the main antagonist of Disney's live-action comedy film Beverly Hills Chihuahua. He is a ruthless Doberman Pinscher who is Vasquez's fighting dog.

He was voiced by Edward James Olmos, who also portrayed Manny Greco in 2 Guns.

Biography[]

Prior to the events film, he had a run-in with a police dog named Delgado, where Diablo injured Delgado's partner, resulting in Delgado losing his sense of smell and being thrown out of the police force. Later, at one point, Diablo was adopted by Vasquez and trained to be a fighting dog.

One night, Diablo is arranged for a fight against a captured Chihuahua named Chloe. When Chloe tries to talk out of the fight, Diablo silences her. Chloe inadvertently enrages Diablo further when she comments on his smile and he proceeds to attack her, tearing off her cashmere sweater in the process. When Diablo corners Chloe, Delgado comes to her aid and helps her escape after freeing himself and the other fighting dogs. Delgado manages to shut the gate before Diablo could chase them and they flee the ring, while Diablo swears that he will get his revenge on Delgado. After Vasquez fails to recapture Chloe for her diamond collar, he implants a GPS tracker on Diablo and sends him to find Chloe. However, upon hearing Diablo's howls, Delgado manages to elude him by pushing Chloe into a puddle to conceal her scent.

The next day, Diablo manages to find Chloe after she confronts a pack of canine thugs. Before he could capture her, Delgado grabs Chloe and flees with her. Diablo chases the pair into a museum, but they manage to thwart him once again by leading him into a confrontation with a pair of security guards, while they hitch a ride to Puerto Vallarta. Upon arriving at the city, Diablo confronts a pair of con artists named Manuel and Chico and demands to know where Chloe is upon noticing her collar that was stolen by them. Diablo threatens to eat the pair until Manuel reveals her location and Diablo disappears from the scene.

Eventually, Diablo manages to track down Chloe at the state of Chihuahua and captures her. Diablo meets Vasquez at an abandoned temple, whom he congratulates for his work. However, Papi (who had been tracking Chloe) comes to her rescue and they flee. The villains chase after them and corner them at the top of the temple, but Chloe falls through the floor. The villains capture Papi and imprison him in a cage within the temple, while Rafferty searches for Chloe. When Diablo senses Chloe's presence, he abandons his post to search for her, while Papi taunts him about his tail.

After Rafferty is arrested by Officer Ramirez with the help of Delgado after the latter regained his sense of smell, Vasquez suggests to Diablo that they leave the temple. However, upon spotting Chloe releasing Papi, a chase is ensued. Chloe manages to escape Vasquez, but Diablo corners Papi and prepares to kill him. However, Chloe manages to use the power of her barks to save Papi, causing the temple to crumble and forcing the villains to retreat. Vasquez is arrested, but Diablo continues pursuing Chloe and Papi and corners them. Delgado arrives at the scene and attacks Diablo, but the vicious Doberman pushes him aside. Diablo closes in on Delgado, but Chloe leaps onto Diablo until he knocks her unconscious. Delgado recovers and pins Diablo to the ground, while declaring that they are even, but Diablo makes his escape. After Chloe regains consciousness and is reunited with Rachel Ashe, Delgado prepares to continue his pursuit against Diablo until Officer Ramirez rehires Delgado back into the police force.

In the end, it is revealed by Papi that Diablo was captured by Delgado and imprisoned in the pound, while Delgado received a medal of honor for his bravery. Diablo was then adopted by a wealthy lady with a "passion for fashion" as he is forced to wear a dress, much to his dismay.
