“ | Welcome to Baldi's Basics In Education & Learning! That's me! | „ |
~ Baldi's introduction on the title screen, as well as an iconic line from the series.

“ | Congratulations, you found all seven notebooks! Now all you need to do is... GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!! HAHAAA! |
„ |
~ Baldi’s villainous breakdown and most famous quote, as he threatens the Protagonist once he has collected all seven notebooks, being manipulated by Null. |
Professor Baldi Baldimore, or simply known as Baldi, is the titular main antagonist/overarching protagonist of the Baldi's Basics franchise.
He is the head teacher of both the Schoolhouse and the Super Schoolhouse, who appears friendly and kind at first but gets angry and violent when the Protagonist gets his quiz questions wrong and smacks him with a ruler if he catches him.
He is voiced by the game's creator Micah "Mystman12" McGonigal, who voices most of the characters in the same series, with exceptions being 1st Prize, Johnny, Mrs. Pomp, and Beans (excluding voiceless characters).
Personality[]
Baldi originally appears as a supportive and helpful teacher, as he helps to guide the Protagonist. He was constantly happy until the Protagonist makes a mistake with his math question, even if the question is considered unanswerable. Once the Protagonist makes the mistake, Baldi's happy face turns into an angry one. He is later shown to be quite cruel and abusive when he inflicts a penalty on the Protagonist as retribution for an incorrect answer.
Despite his manipulative and treacherous nature, he is also shown to be pleasurable when he congratulates the Protagonist after the seven books are all collected. However, Baldi soon threatens him to get out while he can and continues to chase him.
Baldi is shown to be defensive when helping others in the Schoolhouse. If the Protagonist robs Johnny's Shop, Baldi will get angrier for each item he steal, and he will also target the shop once the alarm starts going off. It is generally seen that Baldi likes to create some crazy machines in his spare time, such as Fog Machines, some kind of Gravity Flipping machines, Poster Portals and others.
Appearance[]
Baldi is a tall, slender humanoid with long arms, slender fingers, fair skin, huge visibly black eyes, red lips, and thin brown eyebrows. He has a big smile on his face (before engaging the player) and his mouth is incredibly red. His Inside of his mouth is pitch black. He mostly don't have teeth, tongue, Nor a Throat, but he can still speak. He wears a long-sleeved green shirt, blue pants, and light brown shoes, And a tear drop-like Nose. Despite being seen as bald, he has one string of brown hair, which is often mistaken for a third eyebrow.
When pursuing the Protagonist, Baldi's facial expression goes from a big smile to being completely neutral.
Biography[]
Origin[]
Before the original game was released, Baldi was actually created many years ago by Mystman12. His sister created her own comic, which gave him the inspiration to create his own comic, which he named the character Baldimore.
The comic got the name from Baldi being bald, and it is about Baldi always wanting more food. In one scene, Baldi is seen trying to eat the planet Earth.
Classic[]
“ | Oh, hi! Welcome to my schoolhouse! | „ |
~ Baldi greeting the Protagonist after entering the Schoolhouse. As well as the second iconic line of the series.
|
At the start of the game, Baldi greets the Protagonist with a wave and welcomes him to the school. He then lets the Protagonist find the first notebook, which he will let him take if he do a quick pop quiz. If the Protagonist completes the first quiz without getting any problems wrong, Baldi will reward the Protagonist with a shiny Quarter that can be used later in the game to activate the Noise Phone or to purchase a BSoda from a BSoda Machine.
However, after missing a problem on the next quiz (this is inevitable), Baldi will suddenly become very angry. The notebook will be collected, but Baldi will become enraged and attempt to punish the Protagonist for getting the problem wrong by chasing him down across the school to beat him with a yardstick and possibly hit him. Getting caught by Baldi restarts the game. The Protagonist must traverse the school and avoid Baldi and the other enemies while collecting notebooks. Baldi can hear any door opened, and will come to the source of the noise, though using loud objects such as the alarm clock and tape can distract him, and using WD-NoSquee on doors before opening them will ensure that Baldi cannot hear him.
The Protagonist must complete a quiz every time he attempt to get a notebook. When he get a problem wrong (this is inevitable again), Baldi will quicken his pace and become harder to avoid. After collecting all seven notebooks, Baldi will congratulate the Protagonist, then scream and threaten him to get out while he still can. He becomes extremely fast, and will constantly be near the Protagonist. And so, if the Protagonist is caught by Arts and Crafters during the pursuit, he will be teleported back to the start with Baldi close by, all but guaranteeing a game over. During this time, the exit will constantly appear and disappear in different areas around the school, making escape difficult.
However, if the Protagonist manages to locate the exit, he will escape from Baldi and the school and win the game. There is a secret scene if the Protagonist gets every question wrong in all seven notebooks, which says to go to Baldi's Office for improvement. instead of meeting Baldi, he will find Null in Baldi's Office, who will congratulate the Protagonist in finding him, before going on to tell him to destroy the game.
Plus[]
“ | Oh, hi! Let's play hide and seek! | „ |
~ Baldi invites the Protagonist to play hide and seek. |
Floor 1[]
After the events of the original game, at the beginning of the floor, Baldi happily greets and welcomes the Protagonist to his Super Schoolhouse while inviting him to a game of hide-and-seek. After the Protagonist moves at least two tiles away from the starting elevator area, Baldi will cover his eyes and begin to count down from 10. Once the countdown is over, Baldi will hold a ruler in his hand and start chasing the Protagonist. Strangely, he will also get angry.
Like in the original game, the Protagonist must avoid Baldi and he must pass through three floors in the Super Schoolhouse while being chased by Baldi.
Floor 2/Field Trips[]
to be added
Final Floor[]
After the Protagonist completes all the floors in Hide-and-Seek, he will meet Baldi in his office where he will sing a song while dancing. After the song ends, random parts of the lyrics will play at fast intervals, overlapping each other. The game will then 'pseudo-corrupt' into a distorted, randomly colored BadSum screen.
Demo Style[]
“ | Oh, hi! Welcome to my demo! | „ |
~ Baldi greets the Protagonist who has come to the Demo. |
Several months later, after the events of the Plus, when the Protagonist returns to school again, he is greeted by Baldi again, but this time he will say his demo. Like before, he still chases the Protagonist when he enters the wrong answer into the Math Machine.
If the Protagonist is able to answer all the Math Machines correctly, and then answer 6 bonus questions correctly, he will be given a Portal Poster, where he will then need to use it in the classroom with the Safety Scissors poster in it. This will reveal a ladder leading to Baldi's Basement. When the Protagonist enters a room with a shrink machine in it, Null will appear behind him, asking him why he hasn't destroyed the game yet, before going on to explain that he knows that he want to figure out the game's lore.
Birthday Bash[]
“ | Oh, hi! Welcome to my party! | „ |
~ Baldi greets the Protagonist who has attended the birthday party.
|
Set sometimes after the event of Demo Style, in celebratory to the one-year anniversary of his game, Baldi invites the Protagonist back to the school. Much like before, he will still attempt to attack the Protagonist after getting a question wrong, but once all seven notebooks are collected, Baldi and the other residents of Here School shout "Surprise!" once the Protagonist reaches the cafeteria exit. Baldi tells the Protagonist to step on a lift and blow out the candle on a large cake. Once the candle is blown out, the lights dim and everyone is lifted into the air, forcing the Protagonist to a hallway full of glitched rooms.
Normal Ending[]
The glitched rooms contain corrupted files resembling colored Baldis that do not harm the Protagonist. One of these rooms is Baldi's Office. The Protagonist must count the Baldis based on their color in buttons in one room littered with balloons; should him do it correctly, Baldi shouts "Wow!" before a room opens. Stepping into the room spawns multiple hostile colored versions of Baldi, forcing him to run. Once enough time has passed, a distorted "thank you" screen appears featuring Baldi and the others.
Alternate Ending[]
An alternate ending can be found in Birthday Bash if the Protagonist was to use a "Teleportation Teleporter" to get back to the first floor. However, obtaining the teleporter is very hard, as this item has a very low spawn rate, and can only be obtained from the vending machines. Once inside the Principal's Office, the Protagonist will find Null in the office, who will once again congratulate the Protagonist in finding him, before going on to explain that Birthday Bash is a demo for Baldi's Basics Plus, before telling the Protagonist to destroy the game once again.
The Remorseful[]
“ | Congratulations! You found all seven notebooks! Now all you need to do is... Find a way out before I catch you! HAHAAA! |
„ |
~ Baldi threatening the Protagonist once he has collected all of the seven notebooks, without being manipulated by Null |
After the NULL Style/Glitch Style are defeated, Baldi's initially cruel and abusive behavior finally ends for years. There are 3 new secret endings that can be accessed after the Protagonist reaches the exit:
- In Classic Style, Baldi will stand near the desk and teach the Protagonist subtraction problems, especially negative numbers.
- In the Party Style, After entering the glitched school and using the Dangerous Teleporter to go down and enter the Principal's office, Baldi will be there and play "Baldi's Funtime Song" for the Protagonist to listen to, as a surprise.
- In the Demo Style, After entering the room with the shrink machine, Baldi will open the door of his shrink machine and ask for the Protagonist's help to test it by pressing a button. After the Protagonist presses the button, the machine will run, but it ends up with an explosion. Baldi returns looking messy after the door opens and says that the machine still needs repairing.
- Overall, when all seven notebooks are collected in any of the three game modes, the shout "GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!" will be replaced by Baldi saying "Find a way out before I catch you!" after a short pause.
Other Games[]
Field Trip Demo[]
In the minigame, Baldi takes the Protagonist camping in the woods and leaves the Protagonist to gather sticks for the campfire as he goes set up bear traps. If the fire goes out before time runs out, Baldi spawns at the campfire and almost immediately catches the Protagonist. Currently, the game is still in under-development.
Public Demo[]
In the public demo for the full game, Baldi wants to play hide-and-seek with the Protagonist, and chases after him once he walk a good distance away. Much like the original version, as the Protagonist collects notebooks, Baldi gets much faster, until his speed becomes so fast that it becomes almost impossible to escape without a strategy. In one of the random events, Baldi breaks his ruler, causing the Protagonist to stop hearing him approach for several seconds. If the Protagonist has collected an apple by the time Baldi catches him, he will eat the apple, stopping for ten seconds to eat before continuing chasing the Protagonist.
Kickstarter Exclusive Demo[]
In the Kickstarter Exclusive demo, Baldi will behave exactly the same in the Public Demo. The Protagonist will have to beat him at Hide-and-Seek in 3 different floors in the Super Schoolhouse. After this is done, the Protagonist will be taken to a black room, with Baldi standing before him. Turning around will reveal text saying:
"Some day, you will get the satisfying, canonical, and exciting ending that you deserve."
"Today is not that day."
When the Protagonist turns back around, Baldi will dab for a few seconds, before the game ends.
In the demo's new Farm field trip, if the Protagonist runs out of time for getting to the flag in the corn maze, a massive Gotta Sweep (officially named Gotta Reap) will being to destroy the entire maze, before Baldi begins chasing the Protagonist.

Trivia[]
- Many people thought that Baldi said "You failed all seven notebooks!". However, Mystman12 himself has confirmed it was "found" and not "failed", and he was completely unaware of the debate prior to being questioned about it.
- There have been multiple hints at that Baldi cannot properly write or spell, such as "Bald's Bus" and the abandoned spelling room in Baldi's Basement. There is a lot of other text in the game, such as posters, which also have a lot of typos and errors.
- Baldi seems to be the only real staff in the school besides Principal of the Thing, Gotta Sweep, Mrs. Pomp and Dr. Reflex. He seems to only really know math and seems to have an obsession with it.
- Baldi's claim to play "hide and seek" or "tag" with the Protagonist is actually a cover-up to hide the real nature of the game itself. Instead, Baldi becomes hostile and hunts down the Protagonist to attempt to give him a game over after getting a question wrong.
- However, in Plus, it does not involve an incorrect answer.
- In reality, corporal punishment in schools is illegal except for certain places in Asian, African, and the United States.
- Although the Principal of the Thing is the official principal of both Schoolhouses, apparently the founder/owner of both Schoolhouses is Baldi himself, which is why the staff and other school members consider him as their boss. It is possible that Baldi and the Principal of the Thing worked together to build both Schoolhouses.
- It is unclear what Baldi does if he catches the Protagonist without An Apple. But given the context, he might use his ruler as some sort of weapon, because he cannot make him lose a power tube when his ruler is broken.
- Although his description says he has an excellent sense of hearing, Baldi does not have visible ears on his model.
- Baldi has a son, named Andrew, and a wife, named Susan, in Mystman12's old comics, but Mystman12 has said that he does not know which facts about Baldi are still canon.
- He called this comic as Baldimore because he was bald, his name was Baldi, he always wanted more food, and he lived in Baltimore. The name of this comic was based on the ideas in his childhood.
- It is possible that the 1st Prize was created by Baldi himself, making them technically father and son, although this has not been confirmed.
- Baldi is the only human character with a full name.
- Although Baldi is an immortal corrupted entity, making it difficult to kill him. Mystman12 has confirmed that Baldi is 29-3X years old and his birthday is June 3rd.
- Since the series takes place in the 1999-2000s, it is likely that he was born in 1970.
- Mystman12 originally intended for Baldi to teach more subjects than just math, but due to the time limit in the Meta Game Jam, and also to make it more fair to international players, he ultimately decided to use only one subject for the original game.
- There is also an unused voiceline of one of the subjects, spelling. In the voiceline, Baldi says "I hope you like bees, because it's time for spelling!".
- It is possibly Baldi liking apples is inspired by the stereotype of teachers loving apples.
- Baldi's voice was inspired by the character Waluigi from the Super Mario franchise.
- Spoken by Mystman12 during his livestream, some lines have references to other media:
- The line where Baldi says "FUS RO DAH!" is a reference to one of the dragon shouts from the game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
- Another one of Baldi's lines, "Hadouken!", is a direct reference to the 1987 video game: Street Fighter in which the character Ryu will shout the same phrase when using one of his special moves.
- Baldi's "Open Salami!" line is one of the Mario's voices from the game Super Mario Sunshine.
- In Baldi's waving animation, his right arm appears to bend very unnaturally, appearing to break.
- This animation was actually a mistake, but it was used in the game anyways due to its more jarring appearance.
- Baldi is one of the favorite characters (along with Gotta Sweep) of the game creator, Mystman12.
- Mystman12 at first said that Baldi's first internet appearance was in his deleted "BaldiComic" Twitter. However, this was disproven as he was going to his Miiverse archive and found out that Baldi's first internet appearance was actually in his Game & Wario Miiverse sketch post.
- Baldi appears to be a parody of Slender Man, as both are, tall, thin, bald villains who teleport after the protagonists and who has several pages that the player needs to find.
- Despite Baldi having excessive hunger and eating a lot, he has a thin body. It could possibly mean that Baldi has difficulty gaining weight, or just has a fast digestion system.
- According to the interview on Game Jolt, Baldi in the Baldimore comic series and Baldi in the Baldi's Basics series are different, because the former is an inventor, and the latter is a teacher.
- However, Baldi in Baldi's Basics series appears to be an inventor, as judging by the descriptions/names, he created/built, such as the math machine, the fog machine, the portal poster, the shrink machine, his "toenail clippers", and his gravity flipping invention.
- Alongside math, Baldi also likes science, although that involves a lot of math.
- Baldi has done something possibly heinous in the year 1992, but he will not admit to it until he is caught.
- Mystman12 voiced Baldi in the "Baldi's Mysterious Jar" animation by Splintza, and in the "Baldi gets bullied" animation by Xploshi.
- In the previous games, Baldi's waving animation is smoother than other games due to it having all 99 frames, where the animation's total amount of frames were halved in Plus and Classic Remastered.
- Mystman12 has revealed that at some point during development, Baldi had an unused dialogue file with a "parrot noise" at the end of the line in a reference to Ms. Fowl from the show The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius; however, it seems that it was not left in the files of any version.
- In the Unity Project file for the original game, there exists 3, albeit empty, Audioclip spots on Baldi's script. It suggests that it was planned for Baldi to talk while chasing, but in the final game, this was scrapped.
- This idea has since been reused for Null in Classic Remastered's NULL Style. Since he makes no sound while moving, it's one of the only ways to know where he is (aside from the doors that open when he passes by).
- In Birthday Bash, one of Baldi's voiceline "a shiny quarter!" and "Then, when you find something, you can use it on, right click on the object with the quarter selected. That's how you use items y'know!" quotes were removed because Baldi gives the player a present instead of a Quarter.
- In Plus, it is possible to use Baldi's incredible sense of hearing to trick him into moving in the wrong direction. With doors or lockers, the player can simply open them, then move away from them in the opposite direction of Baldi. If done successfully, Baldi will move in the direction of the door or locker and then move around randomly.
- In Classic Remastered, when pressing P after Baldi welcomes the player will cause Baldi to repeat his introduction dialogue again, along with his welcoming animation.
- This feature was intended to test something, most likely the trailer, but it was not removed from the game.
- Despite the fact that Baldi was chasing the Protagonist only a few moments before, Baldi is very kind towards the Protagonist in the secret endings of Classic Remastered after NULL Style is beaten; explaining negative numbers to the Protagonist, playing a special song for him, and allowing him to help him test out his new Shrinking Machine in Classic Style, Party Style, and Demo Style respectively.
- This indicates that Baldi has regretted his angry and rude actions towards the Protagonist, when his Schoolhouse was still being manipulated by Null.
- Baldi is similar to the new school villains, Miss Circle and ∆lice, the main/overarching antagonists of the music video Fundamental Paper Education:
- All three are the most important characters of their respective games/series.
- ∆lice:
- Both have their own rooms/offices.
- Both are shown to be able to manipulate the school environment.
- Both scare some students, staff, and school members.
- Both are considered the bosses of the other school members.
- Both are considered the bosses of the other school members.
- Both are the strongest entities.
- Miss Circle:
- Both are math teachers.
- Both can be known to get angry easily whenever their students get the wrong answer.
- Both have a group of school staff that can help them.
- ∆lice:
- There are differences between Baldi and the two new villain characters, Miss Circle and ∆lice:
- Baldi is an immortal corrupted entity, although he is still considered human, which makes it difficult to kill him, while Miss Circle and ∆lice are implied to be human and turned into demons but they are not immortal at all.
- If Baldi is in the 2010s-2020s, then his age is at least 40-50s. Since he was born, presumably, in the 1970s, while Miss Circle is still 38 years old and ∆lice is possibly in her 20s.
- Miss Circle:
- Baldi is known to have a ruler to hit his students when they answer wrong, while Miss Circle does it in a different and more gruesome way; As shown to Abbie, she uses her compass arm to penetrate his head, hit him with it, and eat his entire body alive. While it is reasonable, it's not justified due to how she's much more malicious than Baldi.
- Baldi is known to be the head teacher and founder/owner of both of his Schoolhouses, while Miss Circle works for the principal named Miss Grace.
- ∆lice:
- Baldi is proven to be able to manipulate reality completely, while ∆lice is still limited to manipulating reality.
- Baldi's office was taken over by Null in the original game before he was defeated, while ∆lice has been taken over since long ago.
- Baldi is the head teacher, while ∆lice is neither a student nor a teacher of the School Paper.
- Miss Circle:
- All three are the most important characters of their respective games/series.
