Re: Green Greens

"Re: Green Greens"[2] is a theme from Kirby: Planet Robobot that plays in segments of Patched Plains - Stage 2 and Stage 3. It was arranged by Hirokazu Ando[1] and is a variant of "Green Greens".
Composition[edit]
As implied by its name, "Re: Green Greens" is a reimagining of "Green Greens", set in the same key and meter (C major, 4/4). It begins with a short lively intro based on the second section of "Green Greens" in a straighter rhythm. After the key is properly set up, the main melody enters: a version of "Green Greens"' that drags out and ends on the F, similarly to "Stadium: Drag Race", first played by a sawtooth wave and repeated with added glockenspiel. The next portion continues the quotation of "Green Greens" with a guitar, preparing a resolution. However, it is instead followed up by a subdominant iteration of the same motif played by a smooth synth, then seconded by the electric guitar in the tonic. The first section is concluded by the guitar's variant of "Kirby's Triumphant Return"'s second section. The section repeats with instrumentation changes: the initial phrase is played by electric guitar, while the second references the original "Green Greens" with a more faithful chiptune quotation. Notably, the chiptune solo only lasts as long as the base "Green Greens", as the varied ending features electric guitar again. The remainder of the reprise is balanced out between piano and chiptune lead, and supporting electric guitar, with the previous tendency remaining.
The second section is based on the analogous section of "Green Greens", once again in a straight rhythm reminiscent of "Green Greens (Return to Dream Land)". This section switches between an oboe and the electric guitar, supported by a background riser. In conclusion of the section, a suspenseful dominant octave is played, followed by mechanical noises during the transition. After shortened and rhythmically shifted opening notes of the melody of "Green Greens", the track reaches its end and loops.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]
In Kirby: Planet Robobot, "Re: Green Greens" plays in the area prior to the Invader Armor battle in Patched Plains - Stage 2, as well as the first and last rooms of Patched Plains - Stage 3. The theme can be found as track 007 in the Jukebox. Additionally, it appears as the second section of all three primary arrangements of "Haltmann Works Co. HQ".
Kirby Star Allies[edit]
In Kirby Star Allies, an orchestral arrangement of "Re: Green Greens" titled "Green Gardens"[3] plays in the stages Green Gardens and Fruity Forest, as well as the last room of Donut Dome. It can be found as track 006 in the Jukebox, and it was arranged by the original composer, Hirokazu Ando. This arrangement has a different intro based on the "Kirby's Triumphant Return" variant of "Green Greens", similarly to the latter's arrangements in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Kirby Air Ride; it also features a full and proper version of "Green Greens" before the loop point.
Kirby Fighters 2[edit]
In Kirby Fighters 2, the "Green Gardens" arrangement from Kirby Star Allies is reused in the stage of the same name, and a new remix of it can be unlocked as the secret song for the stage when the player reaches Fighters Rank 19.
Other appearances[edit]
In Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival, "Green Gardens" is featured as part of the "Kirby Star Allies Medley" alongside "Twinkle☆Stars" and "A Battle of Friends and Bonds".
A light orchestral arrangement of "Re: Green Greens" titled 新緑のカフェテラス/グリーングリーンズ (Fresh Green Café Terrace / Green Greens) appears as track 1 of The Sound of Kirby Café, also arranged by Hirokazu Ando. Similarly to "Green Gardens", it is combined with the basic "Green Greens".
On the Kirby 30th Anniversary Site, "Fresh Green Café Terrace" appears when viewing Kirby number 20 ("Delicious Time").
An arrangement of "Green Gardens" from Kirby Star Allies is featured in an officially licensed collection of Kirby sheet music published by Yamaha Corporation.[4] Notably, the back of the sheet music book marks the first instance where "Green Gardens" is officially named in English.
