William Taylor is a major antagonist from the crime-drama TV series Criminal Minds. He is a delusional abductor and torturer who appears as the main antagonist of the Season 11 episode Awake.
He was portrayed by Todd Lowe.
Biography[]
William Taylor owned a scrap yard somewhere in Arizona. He also had a five-year old daughter named Tatiana, whom he treasured. One night, while driving home from his daughter's ballet recital, a sleep-deprived William stopped at a rest stop to take a nap. Before he fell asleep, a man knocked on his window and told him his left taillight was out. That same man waited for William to fall asleep and kidnapped Tatiana. When William woke up and realized that she was gone, he reported the abduction to police, and a search party was arranged to look around the rest stop. The search party eventually stumbled across Tatiana's body, and William was devastated.
Despite finding her body, William refused to believe that she was dead, and deluded himself into believing that she was still out there, being held by the man with the skull tattoo. This delusion developed into an obsession and pathology, in which William would believe every man he came across in the area Tatiana was abducted from, was the man with the skull tattoo. After abducting his victims, he would take them back to his scrap yard, give them coffee to stay awake, and use various torture methods to interrogate them. Because the men had no idea what he was talking about, they couldn't give him an answer and would eventually be killed.
Awake[]

Trivia[]
- William is inspired by multiple real-life and fictional criminals:
- Jake Johnson, the main antagonist of the horror film The Laughing Mask; Johnson killed his wife for murdering their daughter to leave Johnson for a gangster, then developed an alternate personality in full costume to torture and kill her accomplices and other criminals, under the delusion his family was kidnapped, not dead.
- Gary Lee Sampson, a spree killer of men he kidnapped and killed to rob them while Sampson posed as a hitchhiker.
