~ Peck to his latest victim. |
Kevin Peck is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "Last Gasp". He is a serial killer who targets high-end prostitutes who remind him of his late sister, who was also his first victim.
He is portrayed by Casey Thomas Brown.
Early life[]
Peck's parents were never married, and his father abandoned the family. When Peck was a teenager, his mother, a former exotic dancer, married George Ferguson, a wealthy politician with a teenage daughter named Tracy. Peck became obsessed with his stepsister, who not only did not return his feelings, but despised her new stepmother and brother as "white trash gold diggers" and started abusing heroin to lash out at her family. In contrast of the family drama Tracy caused made Peck want to be an obedient child and got along well with his stepfather, who set up a $150,000 trust fund for him that he could access when he turned 18 - much of which he gave to Tracy to spend on heroin. He also befriended Jessica Mayhew, a U.S. senator's daughter six years his senior who resembled Tracy.
Ferguson cut Tracy off financially to get her to stop using, but her addiction only worsened, and she became a prostitute to finance it. One night, six of Peck's friends paid her to have an orgy with her, and Peck talked his way into tagging along. He was aroused by watching them have sex with her, so he made his own advances on her. When a disgusted Tracy turned him down, he flew into a rage and killed her by giving her an overdose.
Peck kept his homicidal urges in check for the next eight years, but when Jessica returned to the U.S. after eight years abroad, it brought back memories of Tracy's murder and he wanted to relive the feeling of "possessing" her. He thus began stalking high-end prostitutes who reminded him of his stepsister, taking their pictures without their knowledge. He then kidnapped them and held them hostage in his wine cellar, taking pictures while he drugged them and dressed them in white negligees just like the one Tracy had been wearing when he killed her. Finally, he killed them with heroin overdoses, just as he had with Tracy, and posed their dead bodies in makeshift coffins. He then incinerated their dead bodies in his furnace. By the time of the episode, he had murdered two women.
In "Last Gasp"[]
Peck abducts his latest victim and poses her after overdosing her with heroin. He then leaves her to die as he returns to a party he is throwing at his house, with several influential politicians and lobbyists as guests. Jessica is also in attendance, and they flirt over fine wine. Soon afterward, however, he kidnaps and drugs her, intending to make her his next victim.
Meanwhile, FBI Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia, who has recently been reassigned to the Bureau's Cyber Crimes Division from the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) by Linda Barnes, the corrupt Assistant Director of National Security, finds a dropbox file containing pictures of one of Peck's victims while working on another case. When her supervisor refuses to devote FBI resources to the case, she reaches out to her former BAU colleagues, who have also been reassigned to other departments, and they all agree to investigate the case without Barnes' knowledge.
Garcia finds photos of the second and third victims, as well as news articles about Tracy's death, and Agents Emily Prentiss and Jennifer Jareau theorize that Tracy was the killer's first victim. They also discover that Barnes was the field agent in charge of investigating Tracy's murder, and that she had the records sealed. Jareau asks Barnes about the case, and Barnes says that she had the files sealed to prevent Tracy's death from becoming tabloid fodder. She refuses to unseal the file, and fires Jareau for insubordination. With Garcia's help, however, they hack into the file and discover that Peck purchased an expensive bottle of wine found at the crime scene, and they realize that he is the killer.
Peck takes Jessica to the hotel where he killed Tracy, and tells her how and why he did it, even saying that Tracy's death was her own fault because she was "teasing" him. He then injects Jessica with a heroin overdose and starts addressing her by Tracy's name, crying as he strokes her hair. Just then, Agents Matt Simmons and Luke Alvez infiltrate the hotel room and arrest Peck and save Jessica. Her father is so grateful that he pulls strings to get Jareau her job back and re-establish the BAU with Prentiss as Unit Chief, which Barnes is powerless to stop.
Peck, meanwhile, is imprisoned for life for his crimes.
