Riley Porter is a supporting antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Revenge". He is a self-described involuntary celibate ("incel") who conspires with two of his friends to rape women who they feel have wronged them.
He was portrayed by Ethan Slater.
Biography[]
Porter is a misogynist who believes that women owe him and his fellow incels sex, and that it is their right to rape them if they refuse. He resents attractive men and women who are in relationships, calling them "Chads" and "Staceys", stereotypes of "beautiful people" whom he feels have taken the happiness and success that is rightfully his. He also believes that women get the best shifts at the firm where he works as a data processor, intensifying his resentment.
He writes misogynist screeds online as part of a community of incels on the dark web, where he meets Chris Carnasis and Tony Kelly. The three of them concoct a scheme in which they rape women who they believe have wronged them; they "trade rapes", targeting women they do not know personally so there will not be any provable connection between them.
"Revenge"[]
Porter begins the cycle of rapes by attacking Beth Palmer and her boyfriend Tate Brightman, gaining entry to their apartment by pretending to be a pizza delivery man. He then knocks Tate unconscious with the butt of his gun and then overpowers and rapes Beth, all the while shouting, "Screw you, Stacey!".
The NYPD's Special Victims Unit at first thinks that the rapist intended to attack someone else and got the address wrong. When Carnasis attacks and rapes Melanie Pierce, who had angered Porter by ignoring her, and her boyfriend Paolo, the detectives realize that the rapes are being committed by multiple assailants, working together. They research online incel culture, find Porter's online writings, and come to suspect him.
They bring Porter in for questioning, and Detectives Fin Tutuola and Dominick Carisi Jr. build a rapport with him by pretending to hate women as much as he does, even complaining about their "bitch" Lieutenant, Olivia Benson. Porter falls for the ruse and starts rambling about his twisted belief that rape is not real, as sex is one of the rights he is entitled to by the Constitution's guarantee of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". He denies assaulting Palmer, but the detectives have enough evidence to detain him.
After Kelly rapes a woman and kills her husband, Carisi and his partner, Detective Amanda Rollins, threaten to put Porter in prison for life. Terrified, Porter tells them everything about the conspiracy, leading to the arrests of Carnasis and Kelly. Porter makes a deal with Assistant District Attorney Peter Stone to serve 10 years in prison in return for testifying against Kelly.
