~ Sweeney bragging about raping Will Caray |
Rob Sweeney is the main antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Brotherhood". He is the sadistic president of a college fraternity who tortures the pledges.
He is portrayed by Toby Moore.
Overview[]
A senior at Hudson University from a wealthy family, Sweeney is also the president of the Tao Omega fraternity. He takes sadistic pleasure in beating, humiliating, and sexually abusing new pledges, going so far as to make them stand naked in subzero temperatures and rape them with foreign objects. He gives them girl's names and insults them with homophobic slurs while torturing them, and has them kicked out of the fraternity and socially ostracized if they complain or fight back.
His best friend and frat brother Tyler Henry obeys his orders to assault and abuse the pledges, even by recording himself having sex with their girlfriends. He is not as cruel as Sweeney, however, and sometimes tries to stop him from hurting the pledges.
In "Brotherhood"[]
During one initiation, Sweeney and Henry both sodomize pledge Will Caray with a paddle. A few days later, Henry visits Caray in his dorm room to make sure he doesn't tell anybody about the assault. Terrified that Henry will rape him again, Caray hits him over the head with a blender, killing him instantly, and then sodomizes the corpse with a violin bow as revenge for the rape.
While investigating Henry's murder, Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler of the NYPD's Special Victims Unit find out that he had recorded himself having sex with Alicia Morley, pledge Nathan Angeli's girlfriend, giving Angeli a motive to kill him. They question Angeli and Caray, his roommate; meanwhile, the coroner's report reveals that Henry was sodomized by a violin bow matching the description of one that Caray owns. As he is about to be arrested, Caray tries to kill himself by slamming his car into a wall but survives and confesses to killing Henry.
Morley brings Stabler Sweeney's pledge diary, in which he recorded every act of abuse in graphic detail, while Caray makes a deal with Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak to testify against him in return for a lesser sentence. Benson and Stabler arrest Sweeney for multiple rapes, but Henry's father, Xander, a lawyer and a former Tao Omega brother, represents Sweeney in order to protect his son's reputation and that of the fraternity.
The elder Henry persuades Judge Lois Preston that the diary was illegally obtained and cannot be used as evidence. After hearing from Caray what his son and Sweeney did to him, however, he tricks Sweeney into denying the rapes, which allows Novak to get the diary admitted back into evidence. Novak and Preston order Sweeney to read aloud his own graphic account of raping Caray, and he is convicted of rape and imprisoned.
