~ White taunting Olivia Benson. |
Richard White is the main antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Stalked". He is a serial rapist, stalker, and murderer who becomes fixated on series protagonist Olivia Benson.
He was portrayed by Bruce Kirkpatrick.
Early life[]
When Richard White was a child, his father committed suicide, leaving him to be raised by his emotionally abusive mother. White blamed her for his father's death, and grew up to hate all women.
As an adult, he became a successful realtor, but used his wealth and social status to prey on women; he would abuse and degrade any woman he was in a relationship with, and stalk them when they left him to punish them for wounding his inflated ego. He even stalked his business partner, Kimberly Phillips, until she agreed to help him defraud their clients.
The law finally caught up with him when was convicted of raping his ex-girlfriend, Louise Billings, for which he was put on the sex offender registry. He did not stop terrorizing her, however, and continued stalking her years afterward.
In "Stalked"[]
The NYPD's Special Victims Unit encounters White while investigating the rape and murder of Assistant District Attorney Karen Fitzgerald, who had prosecuted him for raping Billings. Detective Olivia Benson interrogates White and angers him by asserting control over him, so he tries to turn the conversation around by mentioning details about Benson's personal life - and she realizes that he has been stalking her, as well. She is forced to release him, but is determined to bring him to justice.
White kills Billings after she talks to Benson and her partner Elliot Stabler about him. He calls Benson and taunts her, saying he will only surrender to her if she meets with him in Central Park, where he murdered Fitzgerald. There, he takes a hostage and attacks Benson, before being arrested.
During an interrogation with Benson, White confesses to killing Fitzgerald, but refuses to say how exactly he did it in order to dodge the death penalty. He then taunts her by saying that he will always be in her head; he also tries to intimidate Stabler by alluding to his wife and children. He is then presumably sent for life to prison for murder, rape, and stalking.
