Hi. This is Thesecret1070. I am an admin of this site. Edit as much as you wish, but one little thing... If you are going to edit a lot, then make yourself a user and login. Other than that, enjoy Villains Wiki!!!
Jadelyn "Jade" and Matias "Mati" LaFontaine are two of the main antagonists in Disney Channel's Original Latin-American series Violetta.
They are an incompetent sibling criminal duo who are bent on stealing the money of famous billionaire architect Herman Castillo, whom Jade has a massive crush on. They come from a rich family until they went poor due to their father's scandal.
Jade is portrayed by Florencia Benítez in her first villainous role and Matías is portrayed by Joaquín Berthold, who also played Gary López in Juacas and Soy Luna.
Jade is very snobbish and is obsessed with her beauty and loves to go shopping. She is very dimwitted and is always in the position of ruining her and her brother's plans. Matias, on the other hand, is a very intelligent and calculative genius and is always the one coming up with plans to rob Herman. He always criticizes Jade for her incompence and has trouble controlling her. He is also very lazy and has a big appetite and Jade also criticizes him for this. They have a platonic love-hate relationship.
History[]
Jade and Matias were born to Jacinto LaFontaine and his wife. When they were kids, their mother died and their father ran out on them to start a life of crimes leaving them homeless. Sometime prior the series, Jade meets and falls in love with famous architect Herman Castillo, who is widowed and has a 17 year old daughter named Violetta.
In Season 1, Jade and Matias move in with Herman and start planning how to get Jade to marry him until Herman finally proposes. However, Jade grows jealous of Violetta's new tutor (and secretly her aunt), Angie Carrara, whom she fears will try to steal Herman away from her. Also, Violetta disapproves of her father's relationship with Jade knowing that Jade doesn't love him and plans on sending Violetta to boarding after they are married. When the two find out that Violetta is attending the Studio, they agree to keep her secret from Herman so that Violetta doesn't tell him about Matias's house arrest. At the end of the season, Herman finally realizes he doesn't love Jade and leaves her at the altar.
In Season 2, Jade and Matias now live in a small rented boarding house. Bent on getting revenge on Herman, they hire an actress named Esmeralda Di Pietro to make him Herman fall in love with her and leave him heartbroken and penniless.
They are a parody of Harry & Marv from the first two Home Alone films: Both are a pair of incompetent burglars with a grudge against a main character (Harry & Marv_Kevin MCcalister; Jade & Matias_Herman Castillo). Harry & Marv want to steal valuable possessions from Kevin's house while Jade and Matias instead want Herman's money since they are bankrupt. However, unlike Kevin, Herman remains oblivious to their plans so they often manipulate him in order to earn his trust.
They can also be a parody of Ryan and Sharpay Evans from High School Musical since both are a brother and sister duo.
Jade is similar to Larry Quinn from The Cat in the Hat:
They wanted to marry a single/widowed parent (Herman Castillo and Joan Walden) out of money and act as their children's archenemy (Violetta for Herman, Conrad for Joan; and even Sally, whom he was initially nice to until he revealed his true colors to her).
In addition, they threatened to send them away: Larry wanted to send Conrad to a military academy because of his destructive rule-breaking behaviour and Jade intended to have Violetta shipped off to a boarding school if she misbehaved, which she wasn't unlike Conrad, as the latter wouldn't stand the idea of Jade replacing her deceased mother. In Conrad's case, he simply didn't like Larry at all. Much like Conrad, Violetta strongly disapproved her father's relationship with Jade, being the only one to see through her true nature, something that was oblivious to Herman who seemed to believe his partner rather than her own daughter.
Furthermore, they either proved or tried to prove wrong their children's trustworthiness through secrets that would get them in trouble: Jade indirectly revealed to Herman that Violetta has been attending the Studio 21 behind his back while Larry tried several times to expose Conrad and Sally for trashing their house (the main culprit being the Cat), because it had to stay tidy for an upcoming business party hosted by Joan, so she wouldn't face getting fired by her charismatic yet neat-freak boss, Hank Humberfloob. However, while Herman did find out about Violetta attending the Studio (thus becoming mad at her for lying to him to the point of grounding her and even threatening to move away to Qatar, stemming from his anger at the world over his wife's accidental death, which was no one's fault), Larry was unable to provide solid evidence about the house's destruction as Conrad and Sally were fortunately let off the hook after cleaning it up with the Cat's help, making Joan completely unaware of the events and the Cat, although Conrad gains Joan's trust back and forgives him for his previous actions. Herman, on the other hand, despite his anger towards Violetta over the Studio, he soon came to understand music was her daughter's true passion and allowed her to continue attending.
Matias also bears few similiraties to Larry Quinn as both of them are depicted as too lazy enough to work for a living, often steal food from the Waldens and Castillos and were either homeless or on the verge of it since Matias was forced to live in his own car and then the Castillos's residence (due to house arrest), while Larry, despite still having his house, was in the middle of bankruptcy and his belongings were being gradually repossessed. In addition, they are also goldiggers in the way that Matias wants Jade to marry Herman as soon as possible so he can maintain a luxurious lifestyle, while Larry himself wanted to marry Joan for her money. Unlike Larry, Jade, aside from Matias, was also evicted from her own home (all her belongings being repossessed as well) and immediately moved in with Herman whereas Larry was yet to do so (but never did) when trying to marry Joan.
Ironically, Jade tips off Nicolás about Clément's attendance to the Studio the exact same way as Herman about Violetta's, and both of them having lied about it for different reasons (Herman being blinded by grief and anger over his wife María's death, making him exclude Violetta from anything related to music out of fear for her safety, and Nicolás expecting his son to follow a career he doesn't like), only that she does so out of goodness trying to patch up the strained relationship between Nicolás and Clément while Jade only disclosed the information to Herman for personal gain because of her feud against Violetta, who does not approve Jade's relationship with her father. In addition, Jade was engaged to Herman before it was broken off while she was already married to Nicolás and got along with Clément. Despite this, Jade almost cost Clément a chance to keep attending the school since Nicolás initially refused to sell the Studio after finding out about his son's deception, similar to when Herman threatened to take Violetta away to Qatar, particularly after Jade admits to having lied about not knowing what Violetta was doing behind his back.
Jade and Matias show the Seven Deadly Sins:
Pride, as they, especially Jade, consider themselves better than others.
Greed, as Jade desires to marry Germán for his money while Matias sees this as an escape to their economical situation when his luxurious lifestyle becomes threatened by it. Later in season 2, they attempt to steal Germán's money by hiring Esmeralda Di Pietro to deceive and leave him heartbroken.
Sloth, for Matias' laziness and unemployment.
Gluttony, as he steals and eats the Castillos' food.
Wrath, for Jade's treatment of Violetta.
Lust, which is implied by Jade being genuinely, albeit madly, in love with Germán. This applies to Matias who constantly flirts with Inspector Parodi and, to a lesser extent, Angie.
Envy, which Jade has for Violetta benefitting from Germán's wealth and sometimes favoring his daughter over her and for Angie, as she sees her as a love rival for Germán's affection.
