~ Ámbar swearing revenge against Luna and her friends as she becomes more malicious than ever before.
“
Mónica, look, when I was a kid, I dreamed of becoming like her. I dreamed. I used her makeups, stole her clothes and I brushed like her, repeated the same as she said and I felt it was the only way she would love me, if I was like her.
„
~ Ámbar explaining to Mónica the reason why she truly loved her godmother Sharon.
Ámbar Smith is one of the three main antagonists (alongside Sharon Benson and Emilia) in the Disney Channel Latin American original series Soy Luna and a minor antagonist in the second season of the Disney Channel Brazilian TV series Juacas.
She is a young woman who is a talented skater at Jam & Roller, known by everyone as "The Queen of the Rink", Matteo's ex-girlfriend, Delfi and Jazmín's best friend, the goddaughter of Sharon Benson and Luna's main rival as she feels threatened by her and does everything in her power to defeat her at all costs.
She is portrayed by Valentina Zenere in her first villainous role.
Ámbar was at a young age given up for adoption by her mother Sylvana Ariel, since she was too young to raise a child. Sharon Benson adopted her, but chose not to tell her nor anyone else about her mother. Instead, she told everyone that Ámbar's parents were important businessmen that traveled often throughout Europe, and that she lived with Sharon instead since Sharon was her godmother.
Ámbar has been skating since she was a little girl, and she participated in her first competition when she was just six years old. She was also a Girl Scout and the leader of her troop.
Prior to the series[]
Ámbar had been dating Matteo Balsano for some time, and they had become the focus of her best friends' channel Fab and Chic. Right before the events of the show, Ámbar had been vacationing in New York with her godmother and Rey.
Season 1[]
After Luna's arrival at Buenos Aires, Ámbar starts scheming against Luna in every way possible (such as changing her exam to get her to fail or stealing her godmother's swan and framing Luna's parents for the theft), with Delfi and Jazmín as her minions, and tries to keep her away from her boyfriend Matteo (also known as "The King of the Rink"), but every attempt she does remains futile as the love between the two starts blossoming. She even loses her skating title to Luna, leaving Ámbar demoted. During the day of the Intercontinental Skating Competition, the two girls manage to put aside their differences and they perform together.
Season 2[]
During the second season, Ámbar appears to not have learned from her mistakes as she returns to her old selfish ways and is often seen talking to herself in the mirror. She is finishing her senior year at Blake South College and plans to study in Paris to follow in her godmother's footsteps. When VIDIA assumes ownership of Jam & Roller, they install cameras all over the place, sparking jealousy towards Ámbar due to Luna's popularity increasing and this reaches a boiling point in which she destroys the cameras' electrical system by pouring a drink into it, inadvertently setting the rink on fire, though Ámbar never confesses to this. Nevertheless, she continues with her schemes to separate Luna and Matteo and starts to fall in love with Simón. She even assists her godmother in preventing Luna from ever finding out that she is Sol Benson. Eventually, Delfi and Jazmín turn on Ámbar as she never treated them as friends. When the truth about the fire's origin finally comes out, Simón breaks up with her and Juliana kicks her out of the team. To get revenge, Ámbar joins a rival team Los Sliders, led by the ruthless Emilia, to destroy the Jam & Roller team at the RodaFest. In effect to that, Los Sliders manage to win. After Luna discovers the truth of her origins, Ámbar becomes more malicious than ever before and swears revenge against her.
Season 3[]
Sometime after the RodaFest, Ámbar returns to Buenos Aires, now wearing black clothes and joins the new team known as Red Sharks, which was formed by ambicious businessman Gary López who did not like losers. The team also included the additions of Emilia, Benicio and former Jam & Roller teammate Ramiro who had betrayed his own team. She even had trouble with adjusting to new lifesytle back at the Benson Mansion now that Luna is the rightful heiress of the fortune. In spite of that, Ámbar and the Red Sharks conspire against Jam & Roller to prevent them from returning to their former glory. However, when Ámbar becomes general manager of the place, her behaviour starts to gradually improve as she learns more about responsibility, allows Luna and her friends to use the rink, becomes a more caring and humble person, and eventually ditches Emilia and Benicio and is happily dating Simón. After another fire strikes the Benson mansion, Ámbar fears for her godmother's life and visits her at the hospital where she shows honest regret and apologizes for being too harsh on her, finally repairing the strained relationship between the two and Ámbar acknowledges her as her "true mother".
Personality[]
Ámbar is a person who has never had to work for money. She is superficial and capricious, but also very intelligent. Ámbar is the type of girl that catches everyone's attention and is very popular. She will do anything to get what she wants and has friends to support her and her bad deeds.
When trying to get what she wants, Ámbar is mean, condescending, and manipulative. Despite all of this, she yearns for the acceptance of her peers and most importantly, her godmother. Although she won't admit it, she is jealous of Luna's relationship with her parents.
After Matteo breaks up with her, Ámbar becomes even angrier than before, but also learns to hide her hate towards Luna, dropping it all at once at the right moment. Even though Ámbar often does things out of selfishness, it is shown multiple times that deep down she has a good heart and is able to show genuine kindness to other people.
She has a birth mark on her hip in the shape of a star.
She is the only female villain in the series to have dated people from both Jam & Roller (the good guys) and Red Sharks (the bad guys) team, which would be Matteo, Simón and Benicio, making her the first and only main character to have been in the most of relationships.
She is very similar to another live-action Disney Channel telenovela villain, namely Ludmila Ferró from Violetta. As both appear as the 'mean girl' trope and main antagonist of their respective series. Both are shallow, arrogant, mean, obnoxious, cruel and loath the main female protagonist (Luna for Ámbar, Violetta for Ludmila) above all else. Both Ámbar and Ludmila have sidekicks (Jazmin and Delfina "Delfi" for Ámbar, Natalia "Naty" for Ludmila) that carries out their wicked schemes and feel as though they are nothing without them. They also share similarities in that they both get a redemption arc in the third season of their respective series, as well as initially getting one in the first season only to completely regress to their evil ways at the beginning of the second season. But Ámbar is shown to be more evil than Ludmila, as she had committed brutal atrocities such as burning down the rink, breaking Juliana's crystal skate, stealing an exam and switching it for a fake, having Luna's parents unfairly fired by framing them for theft and destroying the wall cameras and pin the incident on Luna. Not to mention that Ámbar could've been charged with arson because Juliana told her that the VIDIA authorities were going to file a police report against her, but Sharon intervened by pulling some strings to have her absolved.
Before Valentina Zenere was cast, Chiara Parravicini and Thelma Fardin have previously auditioned for the role of Ámbar Smith. However, in Parravicini's case, the producers felt that she wasn't villainous enough so she was instead given the role of Yam. In addition, Tini Stoessel, known for her lead role in Violetta, was the original choice for the character, but she had turned it down due to commitments with her singing career and the shooting of her film Tini: The New Life of Violetta. Nevertheless, Stoessel did appear in Soy Luna through a fictitious portrayal of herself.
