Things are getting dire...
- Remi
This is the 326th episode of unORDINARY and the first episode of the Uprising Arc.
Synopsis[]
Arlo sits on the school rooftop, fruitlessly contemplating the advice Valerie gave him. Though he's trusted her his whole life, he just can't see his schoolmates as the criminals she's labeled them as. The weighing of his life decisions is interrupted by Remi, one of the so-called "outsiders" he's tried to help. She's decided to check up on him in the wake of the rumors Zeke began spreading throughout the school. Though she's still cross about him working for the Authorities in the first place, she trusts him not to be the kind of person who would throw Seraphina under a bus to advance his own career. Remi asks for the version of the story before the Bureau put its own spin on it. Arlo tells her that he went to that meeting expecting everybody to agree to a reasonable compromise. But Valerie hid her true intentions from him. Remi knows from experience the type of intentions a woman like her would have, but chooses not to say it out loud. Arlo reacted so poorly the last time she tried telling him the truth, so she just continues to listen.
Valerie immediately tried to arrest Seraphina, and painted the whole thing as his idea, claiming it to have been for his own protection. He's about to voice his doubts, but his thoughts hold him back. He feels a need to understand why Valerie was acting so unlike the aunt he knew growing up. She had the air of somebody who premeditated a murder. This reminds Arlo of the very theory Remi tried to avoid revisiting: Valerie was the EMBER agent who killed Rei. He decides to stop sharing his thoughts and claims that he's just a bit weary from trying to make sense of everything. Remi tells him he looks more than a bit weary. Arlo changes the subject to Remi's recent activities, and whether or not they involve going after EMBER late at night. Remi says they're past the point of getting way in over their heads. After nearly killing one of their dealers, there was no way to prevent certain retribution. Arlo tells her that he's worried that she'll suffer Rei's fate. Remi promises that she has no intention of dying before ensuring his death wasn't in vain. Arlo can't help but admire her dedication to confront problems head-on, whether it's starting Safe House or fighting for her life to get the answers no one else would give her. A far cry from his own life choices.
Arlo tells Remi about the situation with Headmaster Vaughn. He's apparently nursing a bitter grudge against the Authorities, and has been refusing to release students into their custody. This surprises Remi, but Arlo adds that she and her two accomplices won't be able to count on such protection for long. His boss was working on removing him from the picture, and she was sure to pull it off. Arlo advises Remi to find someplace to lay low before a week passes.
Now knowing that Arlo can't be counted on to reverse the mandate on enemies of the government, Remi walks the halls fretting about what they're going to do. She gets a call from a fellow in the same boat as herself and her friends, inviting the trio to some undisclosed location...
Grayson welcomes Remi, Blyke, and Isen to an investment property his successful parents own, and highlights its many features. He boasts that it's a great starter base for vigilantes like them, especially when compared to the dorms at Agwin High. The trio are a bit daunted by what's essentially a miniature mansion. Remi asks Grayson to send her regards to his parents for being open-minded enough to give vigilantes a place to hide from the law. Grayson tells her that they actually don't know about what he's doing, and that it needed to stay that way. Irate, Blyke and Isen immediately start telling him off about being so clueless. They angrily tell Grayson that using other people's resources for breaking the law was just asking for trouble. Grayson promises that his parents wouldn't even notice, which doesn't convince them. Remi decides that they've gotten out of line, and drags them off to the side. She scolds them for being so ill-mannered, and tells Blyke that Grayson not knowing what he's doing is something they have in common with him. They were in no position to be choosy about their allies, and they were responsible for showing any novices the ropes before improving themselves. Remi then asks if Isen perceived any indication that Grayson was playing them. He didn't, which she asserted was reason enough to welcome their brave host into their fold. Grayson nearly fainted from hearing Remi praise him, which sickened the other boys. With that settled, they just needed to know how long they had before Grayson's folks got wise. It would be months, at least, which gave them plenty of time to set up operations.
In New Bostin town, Adrion heads over to the home of William. He hadn't seen John's dad there nor at the store, which made him increasingly worried. When he reaches the door, he sees that it's open. He bursts in, loudly welcoming William back from parts unknown. But his relief turns to dread when he sees that the only ones inside are a woman in a robe and a man with white hair.
