This is the 234th chapter of unORDINARY, and the mid-season finale of Season 2.
Synopsis[]
At the Bureau of Authority, Valerie is reclining in her office chair. She examines her phone and notices two missed calls from Arlo. She hears two knocks at her door and gives permission to enter. The door opens and Kassandra enters. The two women greet each other. Valerie asks if Kassandra was chosen for her own (Valerie’s) current assignment, and Kassandra nods. Valerie congratulates Kassandra.
Kassandra expresses her concern as to how Wellston has changed for the worse ever since Vaughn took charge of the school. She recognizes that Vaughn has been very difficult to deal with, and his tenure has been churning out vigilantes, which was embarrassing considering Wellston’s prestigious name. Valerie inquires how many students Kassandra was investigating, to which Kassandra shows Valerie the files of Blyke and Remi, who used the vigilante names “Nobody” and “X-Rei” respectively.
Valerie recalls her encounters with both students in Branish, as well as a third that appeared to back them up, confirming that she is in fact the powerful criminal known as Volcan. Valerie points out that Kassandra is forgetting one more vigilante from Wellston: Isen. Kassandra states that she was only briefed about two vigilantes. Valerie cautions Kassandra, telling her that briefings aren’t enough, and if she wishes to rise in the rankings, she must do more than just work with the bare minimum. Kassandra apologizes. Valerie gives Kassandra Isen’s file and introduces him as another powerful Wellston student that is worth looking into.
Kassandra thanks Valerie for her help, and out of curiosity, asks her why she is so invested in Wellston’s case. Val looks slightly unnerved, as if not expecting this question, but rapidly regains her composure and responds that her nephew is a Wellston student, and she is afraid that the law-breaking vigilantes that his school has spawned of late might be a bad influence on him. She grins and says that she has very high hopes for her nephew’s future.
Back in Wellston, John enters the school gate for the first time in a full month, with determination and zeal in his eyes. Isen is walking around the corner, talking to the suspended Blyke and making fun of him. Blyke complains of his overbearing mother, to which Isen amicably replies that no one asked Blyke to get amplifiers to school. Blyke tells Isen to stop reminding him of his foolish act.
Isen asks when Blyke will return, to which Blyke responds that he will be back next week. Just then, Isen sees John entering the Wellston building and fearfully hides behind the corner of the building. Alarmed, he tells Blyke that John has returned to Wellston.
John attends his classes, dutifully making notes. He notices that Sera is absent, which slightly disheartens him, as he was hoping to catch up with her in the class. After the class ends, he makes his way to the terrace, as he thinks she might be there. On the way he passes the infirmary, and decides to pay Darren a visit, only to find that he has left Wellston, and a new nurse has taken his place.
The new nurse kindly asks him what he needs, and John is about to excuse himself when Remi and another student bustle into the infirmary holding Alden’s friend, who injured his leg. Remi throws John an indignant look, which John returns with a solid gaze. John then leaves the infirmary, disappointed to not have seen Darren before he left.
On his way to the terrace, he runs into Arlo. Tension rises as the two stare each other down, but John eventually steels himself and asks Arlo where Seraphina is. Arlo wordlessly emotes that she is on the terrace and walks downstairs crossing John on his way. John heaves a sigh of relief, glad that seeing Arlo did not trigger his old hatred again.
John finds Seraphina on the terrace. Seraphina hears the door creak open, and thinks that it is Arlo at first, but on turning around, sees John. She expresses surprise at seeing John this early, as she thought that his flight was in the evening. John sheepishly informs her that he had read the flight timing wrong and was barely able to make it with William dragging him out of bed.
Seraphina chuckles to John’s surprise and tells him that he is looking much better. John smiles at his friend and tells her that he has her to thank for it. John’s stomach rumbles much to his dismay, and Seraphina discovers that he has been running around all day long and is famished. Seraphina then invites him to grab lunch with her. John accepts. Grinning, the two friends leave for the cafeteria.
Back in New Bostin, at William's house, the bell rings. William answers the doorbell and greets Simon, a detective who he had hired. William remarks that it has been a while since he saw Simon and asks him if everything is alright. Simon quickly responds that William had given him a tough job, but he finally found Jane. William is shocked. Simon shows some pictures of Jane, incapacitated and weakened. Simon informs him that she was being held by NXGen, and that he would try and find more information. William can only look at the pictures of Jane, stunned into silence, as he wonders what on earth has happened to her.
