Episode Information

"Sidekickin' Chicken" is the twenty-fifth episode of the third season, and the one-hundredth episode of The Casagrandes.

Plot[]

After hearing about a contest to find El Falcon's next sidekick, Carl becomes El Pollito and tries to win!

Synopsis[]

At the Casagrande apartment, Carl, Bobby, and Ronnie Anne are watching an episode of El Falcon when they come across a commercial where Falcon is holding a contest to scout for a sidekick, and the winner will be in an episode of El Falcon. Having dreamed of being by his side, an excited Carl asks Sergio to get his camera. At the park, Carl attempts to film himself in a poorly made costume of his alter ego, El Pollito. Both then hear the sound of a tuba and see Alexis, who is also a competitor and is dressed as Tuba Boy. Seeing how much better Alexis' costume is, Carl knows he has to step up his game. In apartment 2A, Carl has Carlota and Frida make a proper El Pollito costume. After filming himself again, he runs into Adelaide, who doesn't watch El Falcon but wants strong female characters included in it, participating as Pandalaide. She asks Carl if he has any gadgets, but Carl knows he doesn't have any gadgets. Carl, more determined to win the contest, tries out his grappling hook to buy hot dogs from Bruno. Alexis and Adelaide approach him and tell him they've finished with their theme songs. On the rooftop of the apartment building, Carl then records his own theme song called El Pollito.

The next day, the mail arrives, and Carl rummages through it and finds the letter from the show. He is disappointed to find that his El Pollito isn't convincing enough of a sidekick. Alexis and Adelaide come by to tell him they both made it to the final round of the contest, to which Carl tells them he didn't make it. To prove to the judges that El Pollito is convincing, he and Sergio are going to make another tape to prove them wrong. Carl and Sergio enter the mercado to find anyone doing something suspicious. After not seeing any customers doing anything, he sees Miranda allegedly stealing the newspapers. He confronts her, only for her to hit him with a newspaper, which he lands in the fruit section. Bobby asks Carl what's wrong with him, and Miranda tells Carl she was recycling them. Carl knows that he needs to do something that El Falcon does.

Back at the park, Carl has Sergio disguised as a baby while being tied in the sand box. Carl feigns danger by snagging Bruno's hotdog cart and directing it to Sergio. However, while chasing after it, his grappling hook gets stuck in a tree and tangles him up. Just as the cart approaches, Alexis and Adelaide come to the rescue and use their weapons to return Bruno's hotdog cart to him. Adelaide unties Sergio and says it was Carl's idea to look like a hero. After removing himself from the tree, Adelaide confronts Carl for putting Sergio in danger for his own benefit. He tells them he wanted to convince the show they were wrong about El Pollito but realizes he's not a hero. Since the camera did record Alexis and Adelaide saving Sergio, Carl gives them the tape so they can be on the show.

Later that night, the Casagrandes, Flores, and Changs watch a new El Falcon episode. It shows La Cobra about to win a battle against Falcon, only for adult versions of Pandalaide and Tuba Boy to interrupt and defeat Cobra. Then Alexis sees an unknown character: an adult version of El Pollito, who turns out to be Cobra's sidekick instead, capturing Falcon and both of his sidekicks. Carl is happy that his character made it onto the show, even as an antagonist, and is content that his efforts have been recognized.

Cast[]

Carlos, Carlitos, Lalo, Stanley, Becca, and Mrs. Flores have no lines in this episode, but were heard clapping and cheering.

Trivia[]

  • This marks the 100th episode of the series.
    • However, if only the combined segments count as a single episode, the series would never reach such a milestone, as it was canceled after only 60 episodes were produced.
  • This episode, along with its sister episode, Puns and Buns, and Food Courting were premiered on Alex Cazares's 30th birthday.
  • This is the final Casagrandes episode to feature Stanley Chang (unvoiced cameo) and El Falcon (excluding action figures).
  • This is the first appearance of the Chang family without Sid.
