Issue 27 is the twenty-seventh edition of Sonic the Comic, the UK's official Sega comic. Released on the 28th of May 1994, at the price of £1.10, the issue contained four original stories (one of them "new") and several features. Issue 27 was also STC's first "birthday" issue.

Strips[]
Sonic the Hedgehog[]
The Sonic Terminator is a 5-part story by Nigel Kitching, Richard Elson and Steve Potter. The Freedom Fighters have arrived at Never Lake, only to discover that Sonic and Amy Rose seem to be stranded on the disappearing Miracle Planet. Sure enough, the hedgehogs are on the filthy mechanical monstrosity and are now joined by the Metallix, its only purpose to destroy Sonic. After running around the whole planet, Sonic is joined by a tiny, future version of himself, who urges Sonic to jump into a shrinking ray and take a Time Stone into the past.
Streets of Rage[]
Skates' Story is the second Streets of Rage strip, written by Mark Millar with art by Peter Richardson and lettering from Tom Frame. Skates has hijacked a "specky wimp's" computer, discovering the names of all the corrupt police involved in the death of Officer Murphy. When Roach won't help him, Skates climbs ten floors up the police precinct, but is caught. As Skates is driven to his execution, Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding and Max Hatchet interrogate officer Rizzo, learning about a certain bomb on the Princess Grace.
Sonic's World[]
A Tale of Tails is a complete story and final part to the Mobius origins arc. Written by Kitching, drawn by Mike Hadley, coloured by John M Burns and lettered by Ellie de Ville, the story sees the Kintobor Computer talk about the volatile Chaos Emeralds and the creation of Super Sonic. Uncontrollable, Super bursts out of Kintobor's Laboratory, only resting in the Swampland Zone where he rescues new friend Miles "Tails" Prower from drowning in a bog. Soon, the pair are forced into a new battle with Doctor Robotnik (as seen in Sonic the Hedgehog 2), culminating in a showdown on the Death Egg. The Emeralds are then moved to North Cave...
Wonder Boy[]
Wonder Boy in Ghost World is a 6-part Wonder Boy strip, this being the last ever part. Created by Mark Eyles, Bojan Djukac and Elitta Fell, the story sees Shion, Wordsmith and Lukout confront an angry Dinosaur King. Shion uses a Spell Box genie to convince the ghost into helping them, so he carries the heroes back to the staircase. Using Bottled Hurricane to clear away the Sleep Clouds, the trio make it back to Skyrock Mountains and drop the Power Jar, destroying the staircase to Ghost World.
Features[]
Being a 1st anniversary issue, the Control Zone thanks Boomers for sticking around and offers new goodies like Sonic the Poster Mag 5, free gifts and Pirate S.T.C.. It's not all happy, as long-time contributor Clare Gillmore has already designed her final issue. Elsewhere, there is a checklist for all stories published in the last 27 issues. The Sega Charts see Sonic the Hedgehog 3 lose top MD spot to FIFA International Soccer but Sonic Chaos swiftly returns to the top of the Master System chart. Ground Zero Texas and Micro Machines remain top of the Mega-CD/Game Gear lists.
There's one reviewer per review this Review Zone; Nick Protz awards NBA Showdown 84%, David Gibbon grudgingly gives Bubba 'n' Stix 76% and Jenny Fromer finishes with a 62% for Normy's Beach Babe-o-Rama (all MD). News Zone, presented by Garry Penn, has information on even more J-Cart titles such as Micro Machines 2 and Pete Sampras Tennis. EA announce the EA Sports Tournament Club, allowing couch potatoes to win serious money, whilst Psygnosis go almost entirely CD-based (possibly in anticipation for parent company Sony's move into console gaming). Short Bursts quickly covers a Desert Strike clone and Mr Nutz.
Q Zone finally returns to its usual format, with Gibbon giving tips on Greatest Heavyweights, Gods, Mean Bean Machine, Robocop Versus the Terminator, Silpheed (all MD) and Asterix (MS). Speedlines sees Megadroid answer letters on 90% of children reading STC, Sonic answering the letters (which he eventually does many years later), Cool Spot, Tails getting more screen time and there's a violent poem by a female Boomer.
After the Next Issue page (which features recycled Tails art from Pirates of the Mystic Cave, there's a full-page pin-up teaser for Pirate S.T.C..
