Issue 62

Issue 62 is the sixty-second edition of Sonic the Comic, the UK's official SEGA comic. Released on the 30th of September 1995, at the price of £1.20, the comic contained four original stories, several features, a Charmy Bee pin-up and a free gift of a Marsupilami mini-comic.

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

The Brotherhood of Metallix is a 4-part story written by Nigel Kitching, art by Richard Elson and lettering by Ellie de Ville. With the Metallix Emperor's plan to turn the Miracle Planet into metal underway, the Freedom Fighters have also been captured. Not is all as it seems, as Porker Lewis has rigged a defeated Metallix into a bomb, destroying all of them! Unfortunately, the Emperor gets the Alpha Device working once again and Porker is stuck on the island trying to fix it!

Ecco the Dolphin[]

Return of Ecco the Dolphin is a 6-part story and the final one in the series. Written by Alan McKenzie, drawn by Steve White and lettered by Tom Frame, the story sees Ecco the Dolphin return with the Black Pearl, only just managing to survive the radiation. The Asterite restores his health after reattaching his missing body part and teaches Ecco the language of The Vortex. Armed with new abilities, Ecco swims into space to face the enemy.

Knuckles the Echidna and Tails[]

The Revenge of Trogg is a 6-part story set in the Nameless Zone. With writing and artwork from Kitching and lettering from Elitta Fell, the story moves into Trogg's dungeons, where the beast is about to transform the Enchanter Kings into monsters. With everything ready, Trogg summons The Dark One, who captures the heroes as they try to sneak out.

Sonic's World[]

The Seven Badniks (story)|The Seven Badniks is a 4-part Sonic's World story that sees B.A.R.F. in action for the last time. The Seven Badniks return to the Green Hill Zone to drive the Palmtree Panic Zone Badniks onto the Ark Pod and back to the Miracle Planet. The mission is extremely successful, until the Badniks return to their home, where they are promptly ripped apart by the Freedom Fighters.

Features[]

The Control Zone, hosted by Megadroid, welcomes new Boomers with information on the animal-themed issue, as well as the ongoing stories inside. There's also news on next issue's free gift of a Sonic eraser. The Sega Charts are quite different this week; Brian Lara Cricket returns to the top of the Mega Drive chart, FIFA International Soccer moves up to head the Mega-CD chart and Sonic Chaos returns to the top for the Game Gear. The only non-mover is Mickey Mouse for the Master System.

In conjunction with this issue's mini-comic, Neil Bryant reviews the forthcoming Marsupilami game, awarding it a generous 86%. The Q Zone becomes a "Q&A Zone" this issue, with David Gibbon answering reader questions for Rocket Knight Adventures and Puggsy.

This week's Graphic Zone is animal themed, with the usual characters disguised as Earth animals. Published pictures won a pack of Crayola Overwriters. Speedlines sees Megadroid anwer questions on a girlfriend for Knuckles, the phasing-out of the Master System and the lack of visits of the Sega Bus to Scotland. Letters and pictures won readers a Highgrove Stationary Set.
