Issue 144 is the one hundred and forty-fourth edition of Sonic the Comic. Released on the 2nd December 1998 at the price of £1.25, the issue contains three original stories and one reprint, as well as several features and a Sonic the Hedgehog pin-up.

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

Secret Enemy is a 2-part story by Nigel Kitching, Richard Elson and Ellie de Ville. Sonic has come face to face with the Kintobor Badnik, who shows its superior by hacking into the nearby P.C. Planet. From the Metropolis City High Security Prison, Grimer watches his plan go well, seeing that Sonic can't even destroy the Badnik with a building. Soon, Sonic gets the idea to return to the Control Centre and turns the Kintobor Computer off.

Amy[]

When in Romanus is a 2-part story written by Lew Stringer, drawn by Roberto Corona, coloured by John M Burns and lettered by Tom Frame. Tekno the Canary is forced by Emperor Zero to kill Amy and things get worse when she is made to fight Clawbeast. In reality, Amy has just been teleported back inside, where she fights a killer robot and dissolves the energy dome around the town. The authorities swoop in and arrest Zero.

Tails[]

The Goblin Overlords is a 2-part story by Kitching, with art by Nigel Dobbyn and lettering by Elitta Fell. Tails and Morain have discovered the Enchanter Kings to be the guests of goblin king Roubal and have agreed to a cowardly pact. Tails and Morain leap back into battle with the guards and are aided by the captured Errol Blackthorn until the Kings force Roubal to allow the heroes to escape.

Features[]

The theme of this issue's Graphic Zone is "No Place Like Rome", with Sonic and friends pictured in vaguely Roman surroundings. The selected artists won a Sonic the Hedgehog watch.
