Sonic X[]
In the Sonic X anime series, Amy comes from a parallel version of Earth in another dimension. She is Sonic's self-proclaimed girlfriend and her long-term goal is to get him to notice, love, and respect her despite her temper and bossiness. When participating in what seemed as a decisive battle against Dr. Eggman, Amy, her friends, and Eggman were caught in a an accidental, large-scale Chaos Control that send them all to the human world. There, Amy was initially split up from her friends and was forced to work with Knuckles until she was reunited with Sonic and the others.
With nowhere else to go, Amy took residence in the home of Christopher Thorndyke, one of Sonic's new human friends, with the others, where she helped fight Dr. Eggman's forces as the doctor attempted to conquer this new planet. As the population got acquainted with them however, Amy moved away to her own apartment. In the end though, Amy and everyone else from her world had to return to their home dimension or their presence would end up freezing time. When Sonic did not return with them however, Amy decided to wait for him, even if it meant wasting her life, but was overwhelmed with joy when Sonic returned shortly after.
Six months after their return to their own world, Amy joined forces with her friends once more to fight the Metarex, an alien race of cyborgs who were endangering the entire galaxy. After many battles, Amy and her allies beat the Metarex, and they returned to their home planet where Amy continued their ongoing battles with Dr. Eggman alongside her friends.
Sonic Boom[]
In the Sonic Boom franchise, Amy is the organizer, archaeologist, and backbone of Team Sonic, a group of heroes who protects Seaside Island and the earth at large from Dr. Eggman and his legion of robots. Smart, independent, strong, and confident, Amy is the one taking care of her team, though she can also be judgmental and bossy. She is also highly graceful and acrobatic, and wields her hammer to perfection. She has a crush on Sonic, but is very shy about admitting it.
Sonic Prime[]
Amy is one of Sonic's best friends. She tries to teach him important stuff about life, but Sonic is not interested most of the time. She acts as the voice of reason within the group, and is always there to protect her home and friends. Due to the Paradox Prism's incident, Amy is displaced across different dimensions from the Shatterverse. Her alternate counterparts are: Rusty Rose from New Yoke City, Thorn Rose from Boscage Maze, and Black Rose from No Place.
Books and comics[]
Sonic Adventures[]
Amy's first appearance in outside media was in the Sonic Adventures comic series published by Sirène, which was released in 1994. Amy appears in the first volume: Sonic Adventures: Dans Les Griffes De Robotnik.
When Sonic escaped from Dr. Robotnik's clutches, Amy was kidnapped by Robotnik to be used as bait to lure Sonic out in the open. Amy was subsequently dragged along with the doctor until Sonic showed up and tried to free Amy, only for Robotnik to make Amy and Sonic fall into a volcano. However, they were saved by a golden ring that transported them to the Special Stage from where they got safely back home.
Sonic the Comic[]
In the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions, Amy was a regular citizen on Mobius until she was arrested by Dr. Robotnik's Troopers for the criminal offense of association with Sonic the Hedgehog (she had been saying she was his girlfriend). However, Sonic and Johnny Lightfoot came to her rescue, and rather than returning her to her home where she would be in danger, she was made a part of the Freedom Fighters.
While initially having a rough start as a Freedom Fighter, Amy steadily grew into her new role and became a level-headed and pragmatic member of the team. She even became the leader of the Freedom Fighters while Sonic was trapped in the Special Zone. In their battles, Amy would use a crossbow for weapon, rather than the Piko Piko Hammer. She also became close friends with Tekno the Canary when she joined the Freedom Fighters and had many adventures with her while continuing assisting Sonic in the ongoing struggles against Robotnik.
Archie Comics[]
In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, Amy is a prominent member of the Knothole Freedom Fighters. As in other continuities, she has a crush on Sonic. Amy was born to noble in Mercia before the influence of Dr. Robotnik head reached across the ocean. As her kingdom fell around her, stories of a heroic blue hedgehog reached her homeland. Amy was immediately enamored by the tales of the legendary "Sonic the Hedgehog" and began sending letters to him despite the ever-present danger.
With her parents missing and Mercia's capital being turned into Snottingham by Dr. Robotnik, Amy's cousin, Rob o' the Hedge, sent her to the presumed safety of Sonic's company. Her escort was captured along the way and Amy was made bait in a trap by Dr. Robotnik to destroy Sonic in Collision Chaos Zone. Once rescued, Amy was welcomed into Knothole with open arms.
Despite her fierce spirit, Amy was rejected frequently to get into the Knothole Freedom Fighters because of her young age, nor could she gain Sonic's romantic interest. In a desperate bid to get some recognition, Amy used the Ring of Acorns - a magic ring forged from the energies of a Super Emerald and of incredible potency. Supposedly, Amy used the ring's final wish to make herself older, causing her to absorb the ring's power and gained the ability to wield the Piko Piko Hammer, though her change was not enough earn her a place among the Freedom Fighters since she still had the mind of a young girl. Eventually, however, Amy did advance enough to be accepted as a Freedom Fighter, and became an important member of the team.
Following the Super Genesis Wave, Amy became virtually identical to her game counterpart. She had obtained her current attire from Honey the Cat's Dreamcaster line.

Trivia[]
- Amy Rose is the first female character within the video games and the most recurring female character across the Sonic the Hedgehog video games/franchise.
- Conceptually, Amy is the second female character after Madonna to be created by Naoto Ohshima for the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
- As of Sonic Origins Plus, Amy is the first female character in the series to get an actual Super form (as well as Hyper form) by the Chaos Emeralds.
- Overall, Amy is also the second female character within the franchise's timeline to have a super transformation, following Blaze the Cat in Sonic Rush.
- Amy's surname, Rose, can be considered a play on words. A rose is a flower that is connected with love, which can be related to her crush on Sonic. This flower is also known to have prickles, akin to hedgehogs' spikes. It is also a play on her color, because in French, rose translates to pink, her fur color. "Amy", could also be derived from the Japanese word "emi" (笑み?), meaning "smile", related to her cute personality. It could also be derived from the French name "Aimée", which means "beloved", which also fits with her connection to love.
- Amy has lived in different locations across the series; in Sonic Adventure, she lived alone in a rented apartment in downtown Station Square.[16] In Sonic Battle though, her place was moved to Central City, possibly due to Perfect Chaos' attack on Station Square. In Sonic Comic, however, she was shown living in a remote house in what appeared to be a plain.[17]
- In The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, Amy became the second character to celebrate their birthday in-universe to start a plot. The first was Sonic the Hedgehog, whose birthday celebration kickstarted the plot of Sonic Generations, released almost twelve years earlier.
- In the Sega CD version of Sonic the Hedgehog CD in North America, Amy was referred to as "Princess Sally" in the game manual, possibly to connect her to the Sonic the Hedgehog television series released that same year. However, she was named "Amy" in the European manual for Sonic the Hedgehog CD and subsequent re-releases of the game removed references of Sally's name when referring to Amy.
- If Sonic the Fighters is to be believed, Amy did not wear undergarments in the time before the Chaos incident; harmless pink fur covered her body underneath her skirt. This was not changed in the 2012 remaster. In addition to this, Amy's muzzle and arms were colored the same white hue as her sclera instead of peach in the original arcade release of the game due to color palette limitations, although pre-rendered graphics featured her with the correct colors. This was not fixed in the Sonic Gems Collection release, but was in the 2012 remaster.
- Strangely, Amy appears in the French guide for Sonic & Knuckles, even though she makes no appearance whatsoever in the game. In that guide, it was said that Amy had been kidnapped by Knuckles.
- All of the cars Amy has driven in racing games have been old-fashioned convertibles, similar to how Sonic has driven sports cars and how Knuckles drives off-roaders.
- Amy Rose was one of Lisa Ortiz's favorite roles to do voice work for.[citation needed]
- Amy being Sonic's self-proclaimed girlfriend is actually a mythology gag based on her counterpart Amy, the girlfriend of Nicky, from the 1992 manga. Her personality seems to be very similar to that of her counterpart as well.[citation needed]
- Amy is so far one of the only females to have a figure made by Jazwares, with the other figures being Blaze the Cat and Wave the Swallow (Rouge the Bat was planned but was cancelled).
- According to Sonic Twitter Takeover, Amy's favorite dessert is strawberry shortcake.
- In Sonic the Hedgehog (film), a woman named "Amy Rose" is visible on the Zillow website.
- Additionally, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, who voices Miles "Tails" Prower said she wants Amy in an interview.[18]
- Tika Sumpter and Natasha Rothwell once said they would like Amy too in the third film.[19]
