The Paradox Prism (パラドックスプリズム[1] Paradokkusu Purizumu?) is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is the main objective in the series Sonic Prime. It is a very powerful gemstone with mysterious powers that was once hidden in the Temple Mountain's cavern in Green Hill.

Description[]

Appearance[]

The Paradox Prism resembles a large multicolored crystal chunk with a jagged appearance. Upon shattering from Sonic's attack, it became five Prism Shards: red, green, yellow, blue, and purple. The blue Shard has purple accents on its edges, and the yellow Shard has a blue accent at the bottom.

Powers and Abilities[]

The Paradox Prism is capable of space and time manipulation, able to alter reality itself. It holds an unlimited amount of energy when used as a whole, and upon destruction, it wiped out all of reality while simultaneously giving birth to multiple other realities, creating the Shatterverse.[citation needed] Even when it was shattered, the Paradox Prism's Shards wield limitless power and abilities.

The Chaos Council used the single red Shard to power up all of New Yoke City and their machines.[citation needed] Thorn Rose managed to use the green Shard to create rapid plant growth and make massive trees.[citation needed] The blue Shard itself can levitate many rocks that circle around it while creating a storm. During in the possession of Knuckles the Dread, it also allows the wielder to have the ability to summon and control lightning. Nine[citation needed] used the purple Shard to turn the rocks found around The Grim into two palm trees and coconuts. The yellow Shard in Ghost Hill was able to partially preserve the prime reality, creating the Ghost Prism to serve as the primary method of putting the Shards back together in the correct place and alignment to reform the Paradox Prism, and in turn, the prime reality. While it is unknown if the Shards all share the same ability, each share the same power to allow someone to travel to other Shatterspaces[citation needed], be it through using special technology, or Sonic using the Shard Energy inside him.[citation needed] Abuse of the Paradox Prism, including its shattered pieces, can cause devastation on the Shatterverse. The Chaos Council opened portals to No Place and the Boscage Maze, which made the Shatterverse start to decay and Nine's constant usage of the Paradox Prism in its unstable state accelerated the process, causing the Shatterspaces to decay and collapse altogether. Upon using its stable state, it could rebuild the other Shatterspaces, as well as Sonic and Shadow's home reality.

History[]

TV series[]

Season One[]

The Paradox Prism is an unknown gemstone that is described as being powerful by Rouge, who spent years searching for it in Green Hill. However, Dr. Eggman managed to discover the Paradox Prism first, locating it within the bedrock in Green Hill and creating a plan to obtain it for an unknown reason: utilizing a remote-controlled mecha and goading Sonic into attacking it, amplifying the hedgehog's power to weaken the bedrock in order to get it faster.

Upon finding the Paradox Prism, Dr. Eggman is halted by Sonic's allies, Tails, Amy, Rouge and Knuckles from obtaining it immediately. Soon after, Sonic arrives where Dr. Eggman proclaims his desire to use the Paradox Prism to turn Sonic's world into his own ideal. Afterwards, a brawl occurred between them with Sonic and his friends destroying Eggman's Badniks. Dr. Eggman had his Badniks attempt to dig the Paradox Prism out, but soon went to do it himself when they failed, utilizing his own mecha to slowly rip the Paradox Prism from the ground. Sonic then went to stop Eggman.

Though realizing Dr. Eggman would take the Paradox Prism soon, Sonic Spin Dashed to destroy the gemstone, much to his friends' shock, ignoring their warnings in which they attempted to warn him to stop. Sonic then destroyed the Paradox Prism, shattering it and causing a massive explosion, which engulfed everyone in the cave, including an arriving Shadow. Soon after being shattered, the Paradox Prism would proceed in creating the Shatterverse itself and making, or allowing access to, alternate realities (Shatterspaces), with five Prism Shards that make up the Paradox Prism landing in different Shatterspaces, with one Prism Shard per Shatterspace. According to Shadow, who escaped the explosion and became trapped within the Shatterverse Void, he claims that the Paradox Prism's shattering also destroyed Sonic's dimension.

Season Two[]

When Shadow shows Sonic the disappeared Green Hill, he takes Sonic to the Temple Mountain's cavern where the Paradox Prism is located. The yellow Shard is still in place, and surrounding it is the outline of the full Paradox Prism. According to Shadow, it might be possible to reassemble it. For this, the other Prism Shards from the other Shatterspaces of the Shatterverse must be brought into the cavern and placed in the right place/orientation. Some time later, Sonic brings Shadow and Nine to Ghost Hill. Nine tries to fix the Prism by putting the Shards that he and Sonic had gathered in the correct place. However, he later takes all of the Shards, even the one from Ghost Hill for himself, creating a portal to The Grim to reunite the Shards with the one he left in there to rebuild the Paradox Prism himself.

Season Three[]

Nine tried to use the Paradox Prism to make The Grim a paradise, but causes it and the rest of the Shatterverse to decay, due to the fact that it was missing energy, energy which was inside of Sonic. Then, after a massive battle in The Grim that involved the remaining Shatter-Variants, Sonic makes Nine see sense and allows him to remove the Prism Energy that was in him, allowing the Paradox Prism to be fully restored. It was then used to reform the Shatterspaces and their respective Gateways, which also restored the Ghost Hill Gateway, transforming Ghost Hill into its true state, Green Hill, where the Paradox Prism returned to its original resting place.

Later on, Sonic and Shadow return to their reality, two moments before Sonic shattered the Paradox Prism, with him altering his attack at Eggman instead, with the help of his friends. Shadow arrives on the scene, and moves it away to a secret location using Chaos Control, ensuring it won't be misused or broken again.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Speed Simulator[]

In Sonic Speed Simulator, the Paradox Prism was added as part of the "Sonic Prime Premiere Event", where it could be found in the center of the movie theater, in front of the screen featuring the world premiere of the first episode of the Sonic Prime series, "Shattered". During the episode, the Paradox Prism in the theater would react accordingly to what was happening on the screen, having a tendency to glow when it is on camera in the episode.

Minecraft Sonic Texture Pack[]

In the Sonic Texture Pack for Minecraft, the Paradox Prism appears as an item, where it replaces the Smithing Template Silence Armor Trim from the original game, and essentially serves as a texture-swap of it. In the game, it fulfills the exact same function as the Smithing Template it is edited over, being able to be used to customize armor.

In Survival Mode, the player can only obtain it by reaching a randomly generated Ancient City and borrowing it from a chest, where it has a 1.2% chance of spawning. However, in Creative Mode, the player has the option to simply grab it out of their inventory.
