“ | We're going to build ourselves a War Rig. The finest piece of grunt in the Wasteland. Bigger, stronger, faster! | „ |
~ Scabrous Scrotus |
Scabrous Scrotus is the main antagonist of the 2015 post-apocalyptic video game, Mad Max, and a supporting antagonist in the 2024 prequel film, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
He was one of the three sons of Immortan Joe, the leader of the Citadel, and was once one of his lieutenants in the Council before he was later promoted to become Gastown's ruthless, tyrannical ruler who has his own set of War Boys scout across the wastelands to kill and pillage nearby survivors.
He was voiced by Travis Willingham, who also portrayed Shane in inFamous: Second Light, and the Large Rattler in The Last of Us Part II in the video game. In Furiosa, he was portrayed by Josh Helman.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- Despite being trained to be a "matchless soldier" as a child by his father and never made a proper heir to his legacy, whatever was supposed to be his Freudian Excuse doesn't hold up. The narrative of his bio in-game doesn't hold pathos of how it made him the way he is today nor treat him or his brothers as failed products to Joe's legacy. Even then, none of them were fed up on taking up their father's mantle.
- Although Scrotus is psychologically unstable, prior to becoming Gastown's ruler, he's proven to be less deranged when he was younger but still showed signs of bloodlust.
- He's shown to have a disdained relationship with his brother, Rictus Erectus. Easily getting annoyed with his antics and lack of focus, especially admitting that when he was about to go after Warlord Dementus, he outright states he'll just hold him back.
- He looks down on the Citadel's Council, calling them out for their "cowardly" methods of pragmatism and negotiating with enemies. This solely leans more on Scrotus' arrogance and preference for violence than it is anything remotely resembling honorifics.
- He doesn't even care for his own War Boy scouts and Top Dogs, seeing them as expendable loyalists and doesn't mind whether he recklessly kills them during his fight with Max. Like his father, he would even use them as blood donors as punishment for failure more than too many times.
- Despite being brutally impaled by his own staff's sawblade when Max tried killing him and later stitched it up, suffering from severe agony, it is not played for sympathy. Even then, he still takes out his sadism onto others to relieve his agony as an excuse.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga[]
- He endorsed the War Boys to massacre and pillage Warlord Dementus' Biker Horde, setting out explosives and killing half of them in total.
- Tried to kill Warlord Dementus on the very spot during the negotiation.
- Although Scrotus gave a disapproving look on Rictus for fixating on a young Furiosa, it's more leaned on him being annoyed with Rictus' childish antics than actually being concerned for Furiosa's safety.
- While he did promote a young Furiosa (disguised as a mute) to becoming a "Dogman" upon seeing her skills up-close, it's more leaned on seeing her usefulness than it is more being impressed with her efforts.
- Repeatedly tries to plea his father, Immortan Joe, into going to war and kill Dementus, uncaring if it meant risking the possibilities of Gastown's destruction, saying they can rebuild it if meant taking generations. It also foreshadows the kind of ruler he'd be for Gastown.
- Led the War Boys into massacring Dementus' Biker Horde during the 40-Day Wasteland War, killing hundreds of them and pillaging their supplies as their corpses are left stranded.
- Tries to go after Warlord Dementus and kill him after the war before Furiosa stole his ride.
Mad Max (Video Game)[]
- Scrotus enables his War Boy scouts and Top Dogs to massacre and pillage nearby survivors throughout the Wastelands or near their turfs, robbing them of vehicular parts or supplies he keeps to himself while torturously killing the survivors to death. He then have their corpses decorated to become "Scarecrows" to intimidate newcomer enemies as demonstration to his might, from weaker to stronger ones scattered across the Wastelands' map.
- There would also be times during said massacres, he left the corpses to rot on the very spot it took place or his men would particularly decorate their strongholds by hanging said corpses or at least chaining them to pillar. Heavily implying his men also tortured those captive.
- Pillaged Max Rockatansky and brutally beat him to near death, stealing his shotgun and his car, the V8 Interceptor.
- Tries to have his dog rip Max's throat out, only to then kick it aside when it failed. Showing that he doesn't even care about his own attack dog.
- He sanctioned Stank Gum, his most brutal underling and right-hand, to raid several strongholds throughout the Wastelands, including assassinate Max Rockatansky and Chumbucket.
- He raided and burned down Chumbucket's tabernacle.
- He and his legion raided Pink Eye's stronghold, massacring most of her followers. Leaving them either hanging, their corpses impaled and left lying on the ground everywhere, before trying to kill Pink Eye if not for Max's interference.
- They later tried to raid Gutgash's stronghold next until they were foiled by Max and Chumbucket.
- It's heavily implied he bought Hope, a sex slave, by Gutgash through Stank Gum to become one of the prizes for the Gastown Race.
- He later denies and tries to kill Max Rockatansky of his earned prize upon recognizing him up-close, trying to savagely kill him while siccing his War Boys after him.
- Tortures Chumbucket for information about Max just to get even with him with the latter painfully describing how they made him "squeal like a pig".
- Raided Deep Friah's stronghold, killing most of his followers or left them injured, with the latter himself being the only survivor left.
- Killed Hope by impaling spikes all over her body and later hung her corpse, as well as physically beating Glory, her daughter, to death just to spite Max. This would later on break Max's spirit and set him out on a vengeful rampage against him, costing the life of Chumbucket and sacrificing the Magnum Opus as a result.
- Tries to kill Max by running him over through his V8 Interceptor in the final battle, then tries to pierce the very impaled sawblade stitched to his head onto the latter's in his last breathe.
Trivia[]
- He, alongside his father Immortan Joe, are the only Mad Max villains to be Pure Evil.
