Modification Captain Cannonborg (改造隊長キャノンボーグ Kaizō Taichō Kyanonbōgu) or more known as Cannonborg, was the captain of modification and a general of the Great Space Invasion Running Team Hashiriyan.
History
Background
At some point in time, Cannonborg was born and raised on the Planet Needham (惑星ニーダム Wakusei Nīdamu). He would later progress in life to be appointed at Hashiriyan as chief of their modification corps.
Debut
With Madrex defeated by Boonboomger Robo Knight, Cannonborg was sent to Earth as he was spotted entering the atmosphere by Shirabe Saibu. He catches the Sanseaters slacking in collecting Ghassolin and appears before them insisting that such attitude must be fixed. Unbeknownst to the trio about his existence, Cannonborg introduces himself as Hashiriyan's chief of modifications. He goes on to mention that besides the death of Madrex, Hashiriyan has not received a sufficient drop of Ghassolin energy which is a shame, only to result in his arrival on Earth. Ignoring Yeiyei's sharp attitude, he orders them to get to work and Itasha throws an Ignition Key at a building's satellite dish to create the Antenna Grumer.
When the Grumer suddenly powered-up mid-fight, it was revealed that Cannonborg used his wires to enhance the Kurumaju abilities and arsenal. As the Sanseaters guessed so, he mischievously laughs.
After the defeat of Antenna Grumer, Yaiyai Yarucar comes out of the Highway Space chase and enlarges the Grumer. Falling down infront of the chief himself, he is somewhat amazed by the enlargement technique. Witnessing the final destruction of the Grumer, the Sanseaters apologetically plead. Cannonborg responds saying that the way the trio operates is intolerable and warns them to prepare themselves as he announces that he will take command from henceforth. TV STORY-Bakuage 11: What The Boy Wants
In some abandoned warehouse facility, Cannonborg overhears the Sanseaters discuss bluntly about the chief himself. He appears before the trio and threatens to modify them as he waves his puppet towards them. Going on to remind them that he will be in command, he uses an Ignition Key on a old footwear object to create the Geta Grumer. Later on during the Kurumaju's assault on the Boonboomgers, he spectates the entrance of Engine Speedor and recollects the memory of crashing into him when they both entered Earth's atmosphere; much to his displeasure once realizing. Boonboom Killer Robo Creation & Aftermath
Cannonborg is seen in the same warehouse facility using his puppet to observe the status his secret project. And with his newly completed Boonboom Killer Robo, he doubts that the Boonboomger will keep up as he unveils the Boonboom Danger device. It can be assumed that he gave it to Itasha to summon the mecha given she is later seen with it. Now having the Boonboomgers into their Bakusaged state, Cannonborg appears holographically on the Zekkyo Big Microphone commanding the Sanseaters to wreck the city to their desire and gather up Ghassolin as all obstacles have been moved out the way. TV STORY-Bakuage 13: Treacherous Procurement
Cannonborg stumbles upon the Sanseaters relaxing on a rooftop and uses his puppet to send spark shots that would get them up. Doing so, he emphasizes the fact that this behavior is the main reason why the Boonboomgers are still at large and why the Hashiriyan have little Ghassolin. The trio pleads to him not to be modified so Cannonborg suggested that they acquire more Ghassolin them. Moments after Itasha creates the Reizoko Grumer, Cannonborg holds the Sanseaters behind as he gifts them the Boonboom Danger.
Later during the confrontation between the Boonboomgers and Reizoko Grumer, a new upgraded Boonboom Killer Robo appears much to the captain's amusement. He quotes that this upgrade was specifically done to perform heavy assault. TV STORY-Bakuage 14: Cool and Wild
Cannonborg unobservedly appears before the Boonboomgers as they fight the Nejiretta to protect Kaseki Grumer. Given that their all together, it gives him to opportunity to perform an experiment on Kaseki where he used his puppet's energy waves to cancel out the Kurumaju's benevolence which resulted in it going berserk. As Bun Black tries to tame Kaseki Grumer, Cannonborg sadistcally soliloquizes that all he did was give a "tune up" to the its combat skills and aggressiveness. But once he witnesses the Kurumaju's self-enlargement much to everyone's surprise, he admits that it might've been a side effect from his "tune up" and that its a shame given it'll just waste the apparent Ghassolin on itself. Obtaining The Legendary Sword
Cannonborg pace back and forth in impatience as he mummers that its to late. Decotrade and Itasha try to check up on him and suggest that he's "hangry" but he clears it up, threatening to modify them. Yeiyei defends them and insults the chief. Cannonborg responds by sending spark shots towards the Sanseaters. He then makes it known that he has requested the delivery of an item from Hashiriyan Headquarters that will assure their triumph over Earth under the Hashiriyan.
Cannonborg shows himself when Bun Violet and Byun Diesel arrive with the requested item as he calls him the universe's finest deliverer despite being late. Itasha receives the item and hands it to Cannonborg as he asks on the wellbeing of the HQ. Violet reciprocates that their doing fine and that they have high expectations for him to invade Earth. He is quite surprised by their confidence which ties into his overall reason for ordering this item. He unveils it and is ecstatic to see it. Summarizing that it was a sword forged on the Planet Reflector. He voluntarily asks if the deliverers' want insight on the weapon's tales but they leave the spot before Cannonborg could notice much to his fluster. He commands Itasha to use the Ignition Key on the Legendary Sword, creating Sword Grumer.
Later in combat, Sword Grumer overpowers the Boonboomgers and Cannonborg arrives at the scene to taunt them. He introduces himself as Hashiriyan's Modification Captain for the first time to the heroes. He declares that Sword Grumer will continuously get strong as he can accumulates energy from each attack due to the absorption of Ghassolin which he has to thank the Boonboomgers for making this possible so he had to show up for the occasion. Moments after, Sakito Homura appears much to Cannonborg's shock. Once he changes into Bun Violet, he now understands who he is.
After the destruction of Sword Grumer, Cannoborg retrieves the Legendary Sword. He's satisfied with its survival given that with the built-in Ghassolin energy and the blade's sharpening that the forecoming events will take an amazing turn. TV STORY-Bakuage 16: Purple Settler
Cannonborg had just got done with modifying Yaiyai Yarucar while Decotrade and Itasha workout. Decotrade questions the chief's actions and he declares it being all in the name of taking over Earth for the Hashiriyan; also adding that Headquarters had been reaping the benefits from Ghassolin absorption from different planets hence the given modification of Yarucar. He then sends the Sanseaters to collect more Ghassolin as he has more experiments to attend to with the Legendary Sword in his possession.
After the destruction of Gym Grumer, Yaiyai Yarucar showcases his new abilities to enlarge the Kurumaju. Cannonborg states that he modified him with the Highway Beam technique which has similar effects when Yarucar absorbs the Ghassolin and races through Highway Space. Later when Sakito and Byun Diesel are walking, Cannonborg contacts him via the Boonboom Controller and asks him for his assistance. TV STORY-Bakuage 17: Bun and Byun
Cannonborg meets up with Sakito Homura and Byun Diesel in a lumber manufacturing warehouse in favor of the chief asking the hero to exterminate the Boonboomgers as an order. In response, Sakito prices him much to his indiscretion given his first job was free. With that in the way, Itasha pickpockets a rare collector's card from Sakito and Cannonborg uses it as leverage to force him to complete his order. He obliges that he'll return the item once completed and offers assistance by having Itasha use the Ignition to create a powered-up version of the Sword Grumer.
After realizing his mistake in working for the Hashiriyan, Cannonborg tries to sneak attack Sakito during his resolution speech but he deflects it. Cannonborg mocks him about questioning if he is made to be a superhero. Now joining the Boonboomgers in the fight against the Hashiriyan, Cannonborg leaves the rest of the battle to Sword Grumer and he teleports away. TV STORY-Bakuage 18: I Don't Like the Settler
When the Sanseaters goad Norio Orino who is depressed, Cannonborg offers his assistance after saying that Norio should steal Mira back and creates the Owan Grumer. He then gives Norio a wheel that can control Distress Crazed Beasts. TV STORY-Bakuage 20: Yesterday Once More
Death
Cannonborg tallies up how much Gahssolin he and the Sanseaters have collected and it is a paltry 0.03% of the quota that their superiors demanded. The trio see that Cannonborg is pitching a fit again while he is flabbergasted that the amount is not what his calculated projections would suggest and is screaming in frustration. Itasha is worried that she and the others will get blamed and punished and Yaiyai makes it worse by saying that Cannonborg’s plans are all over the place and not organized, which causes Itasha and Decotorade to quickly shut him up.
Cannonborg believes there is only one solution to fix this problem and redeem himself in the eyes of the Hashiriyans: blow up the entire Earth! Decotorade objects to the plan and tries to reason with Cannonborg, but he gets zapped and elbowed by his commander and Itasha and Yaiyai get zapped too when they try to help Decotorade up. Cannonborg makes it very clear that he is in charge, but Yaiyai says that if he is a commander then why doesn’t he fight with them like Madrex did. Itasha agrees with Yaiyai, as all Cannonborg has done is hide in the shadows and use cheap tricks and dirty tactics, but their protests and remarks are silenced and they run away when Cannonborg threatens to hurt the Trio again and modify their bodies. He fumes over being compared to Madrex, having a flashback of meeting him on an unnamed conquered planet and berating him for being the epitome of reckless and inefficient, always charging into battles without thinking. Madrex comments that Cannonborg’s biggest problem is…
Cannonborg punches a wall and then tries to get his confidence back by saying he is the smartest and most correct thing in the universe. He created the Jackie Hoihoi, a large orbital weapon that forcibly extracts Gahssolin from a planet and will destroy the plant.
In a warehouse, Cannonborg prepares to activate the Jackie Hohoi as it finally arrives in its firing position, only to be stopped at the last second by Sakito bursting in at super speed and shoots away the control unit from Cannonborg’s hands. The remote shorts out and the Jackie Hohoi deactivates, saving the Earth from destruction. The rest of the Boonboomgers arrive and a frustrated Cannonborg wonders how the heroes found him, Taiya says that someone gave an anonymous tip to the ISA, with Cannonborg reacting that “they wouldn’t dare” to do that to him, implying that someone on his side ratted him out.
The team changes into their suits, with Taiya directly becoming Bun Red 119 and do a quick roll call, with Cannonborg finally making his threats to his subordinates a reality by modifying Yaiyai, Decotorade and Itasha. They gain increased power and their heads are equipped with antenna that robs them of their free will as they become obedient warriors who attack the Boonboomgers with their enhanced weapons. Cannonborg orders the three to keep the Rangers busy long enough until he reactivates Jackie Hoihoi, deploying Nejiretta to assist the three in battle as he goes to retrieve the control unit and then gets some distance from the heroes to continue his plan uninterrupted.
Jyo and Genba are having a tough time with the modified Decotorade, while the others are too preoccupied with the Nejiretta or Itasha and Yaiyai to pursue Cannonborg. Yaiyai manages to wipe out a large group of grunts with the Zoonzoom Overdrive but then has to tussle with Decotorade and is pinned against a wall. With very limited time remaining until Cannonborg fires his weapon, Taiya orders Sakito to leave the battle as he is the fastest among them to stop the custom captain. Everyone gives them their weapons to aid him and he dashes off, knocking over some Nejiretta on his way down to give his teammates some space to fight.
Sakito manages to chase down Cannonborg and stop him from running, but the crafty commander tries to convince Sakito to join his side again, surrounding him with more Nejiretta. Cannonborg then whispers an odd request as a job for the cleaner: kill his boss Waruido Spindo. If he does so, then the universe will be theirs to control, a team of superior intellect and brute strength. Sakito rejects the request, as he doesn’t need the universe, all he wants is to see the fireworks with his friends as he attacks the grunts around him.
Angry at being rejected, Cannonborg modifies himself with arm blades and tries to crush Sakito with a smelting pot, which Sakito destroys and then furiously rushes him with energy charged slashes that Sakito keeps dodging. The custom captain then pins Sakito to a stack of crates, ready to cut off his head, but Sakito dual wields a Boonboom Handle and Change Ax to push him back and fight on equal footing.
Sakito says that now that he has friends and a team he can go even faster than ever before, sending Cannonborg flying and then rushing him with a boost to furiously slash him with both weapons. He eventually breaks one of Cannonborg’s arm blades and kicks him into the air with his boot wheels. He continues to say how his friends have changed him, as he feels stronger, kicking Cannonborg into warehouse rooftop and sliding him off it, then slashing him hard into the ground breaking the other arm blade. Sakito then uses the Shokablaster to fire a Zoonzoom Finish, which Cannonborg tries blocking with his tendrils and armored gauntlets. As they break and he is about to be decimated by the blast, he remembers what Madrex said: that Cannonborg’s problem is that he always runs alone on his own path and that makes him slow.
Infuriated, he curses Madrex and everyone else as his body takes the full force of the shot and the explosion deactivates the modifications on the Trio, who get flung outside by the other Boonboomgers. The three are relieved to be themselves again and celebrate their freedom. The Rangers regroup and Taiya congratulates Sakito on a job well done, which the cleaner says is going to cost them for such a difficult task, but the two then do a fist bump. Cannonborg crawls out of the flames, outright refusing to be defeated and drags Yaiyai towards him, having installed an emergency recall function into his body. He orders the little car to change Decotorade and Itasha into giants so that they can kill the Boonboomgers.
Yaiyai has had enough of the abuse that the three of them had to endure under Cannonborg and will not sacrifice his friends, rebelling against his captain and saying that if he wants something done then he should do it himself. He fires the Highway Beam at Cannonborg, who panics as he didn’t expect this to happen upon becoming a giant. Yaiyai is caught by Itasha, who comforts him while Decotorade stands up to his captain by saying that they quit, with Itasha saying Cannonborg can just try to figure things out on his own as the three happily leave.
The Boonboomgers are surprised by this turn of events, but then call their mecha to form Byunbyum Mach Robo and Boonboomger Robo Monster, with Cannonborg putting up a custom made barrier around him to repel their attacks, as he already knows the calculated limits of their current mecha. Even Robo 119 proves ineffective at breaking the barrier when Taiya tries to use the Zoonzoom Finish. Cannonborg puts his barrier down long enough to quickly attack the two bots as Byundi and Bun Bun are grabbed by his tendrils and smacked around, critically damaging both of them.
Cannonborg gloats that he is the most superior and correct being in the universe and the Boonboomgers have no hope of defeating him, with the team worried because they threw everything they had at the custom captain to no effect. Taiya says that they have not tried everything yet and Sakito says that they need to “push past the redline” calling out the rest of the Boonboom Cars, who ram into Cannonborg and free Bun Bun and Byundi, with Cannonborg putting his barrier back up to protect himself from another attack. Mira suggests that if they have to deal with the barrier again then they need to hit their target with everything they got, with Sakito offering support by Byundi acting as a turret mount to support Bun Bun holding his crossbow along with his firehose cannon.
Taiya then orders the team to combine all the Boonboom Cars with 119 and Mach Robo to create the Bakuage Formation: Boonboom Full Throttle Edition, using the construction vehicles to secure the formation to the ground and then the Boonboomgers fire their most powerful finisher yet: the Bakuage Full Throttle Bazooka. The intense blast shatters Cannonborg’s barrier and sends him flying into space, who is dumbfounded that he never calculated this happening, crashing into the Jackie Hoihoi and blowing it up, killing him in the process. Personality
- "And for the sake of our boss, I make this one bad... and that one strong! With my mods of infernal nature. I am chief of Hashiriyan's Modification Corps."
- ―Cannonborg's introduction
Cannonborg is a general of the Hashiriyan who uses expertise with being particular and observatory. Considered the faction's most shrewdest member, he doesn't take unacceptable behavior from his subordinates and always suggests that it should be changed. Fond of boasting about himself and his love for modifying things, Cannonborg finds a purpose in altering everything that'll require it. But similar to Madrex, he shares the same goal in gaining Ghassolin energy to satisfy his boss, Waruido Spindo. Therefore, he won't allow failure.
Cannonborg has a penchant for flair and long exposure. When presenting himself, he engaged in an extravagant introduction. When he got his hands on a legendary sword he had requested, Cannonborg was so absorbed that he wanted to elaborate on its legends. Despite these traits, he largely operates in secret, observing from afar while keeping his presence to the Boonboomgers largely unknown, until he was sufficiently confident to appear in person.
