Doctor Wily (Dr.ワイリー, Dokutā Wairi), full name Albert W. Wily, is the primary antagonist of the original Mega Man series of video games. His goal is usually world domination and he constructs robots to carry out his plans.
Doctor Wily is the typical mad scientist; he is 57 years old (according to the Rockman & Forte Japanese game manual), wears a white lab coat (sometimes he also dons a red cape), is unkempt, has a large mustache and is prone to emotional fits.
He is apparently based on Albert Einstein, because he created the formula that led to the development of the atomic bomb, and Japan was devastated by two atomic bombs by the end of WWII. This leads to the theory that the Japanese developers based Doctor Wily on Einstein for the above reason.
Doctor Wily is the creator of both Bass and Zero.
History[]
Dr. Wily used to be an associate of Dr. Light, until he betrayed him out of jealously for Dr. Light's worldwide recognition for his work and used the robots they made together to assist him in his plans for world domination. The only exception was Mega Man, who defeated each one of the robots, as well as Dr. Wily, himself.
He has made many attempts to conquer the world, all of which were foiled by Mega Man.
Before the events of Mega Man X, he created the robot Zero.
Super Smash Bros.[]
He appears as a trophy in the 3DS version. In addition, his castle from Mega Man 2 appears as the stage, Wily Castle, which exists in both Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U.
Trophy Description[]
- "A mad scientist from the Mega Man series who develops deadly robots to try and take over the world. He's not above stealing the robots and modifying them for his own evil ends, either. Dr. Wily has a tendency to beg for forgiveness when Mega Man inevitably defeats him; those tears don't look all that genuine, honestly ..."
Other media[]
- Dr. Wily appeared in every episode in the Mega Man cartoon series.
- Dr. Wily appeared dwarf-headed and looked very different in Captain N.
- Dr. Wily is the main antagonist of the "Mega Man Chaos Protocal" event in Dragalia Lost. He travels to the world of Grastaea and brainwashes the Greatwyrms, forcing Euden to team up with Mega Man to defeat him. He appears as a boss, piloting the Wily Machine 2. Once he is defeated, he begs for forgiveness, just like in his home games.
