Summary[]
Road to Bridlewoodstock[]
The special begins with Izzy Moonbow guiding her friends to an area in Bridlewood where the plants glow brightly at nighttime. She explains that this natural phenomenon, called the "Lumi-Bloom", occurs once every year and lasts for an entire week. This event gives Pipp Petals the idea of hosting a large music festival in Bridlewood so that everyone in Equestria can experience the beauty of the Lumi-Bloom for themselves. As the ponies leave to start planning this festival, Izzy briefly hears a sinister voice coming from the trees, laughing and encouraging the ponies to "sing for them".
Later at the Crystal Brighthouse, Pipp is hard at work planning for her Bridlewood music festival, which she is calling "Bridlewoodstock". Izzy is concerned because of a long-held unicorn belief that singing and making loud noises during the Lumi-Bloom will attract mysterious creatures called Troggles. However, Pipp assures her that is nothing more than superstition and that Bridlewoodstock will be a big success.
To accomplish this, Pipp tasks her friends with securing several high-profile musical acts to perform at the festival, including the Pegasus rock band Electric Blue, the Earth pony classic pop trio The Dreamlands, and up-and-coming Pegasus pop artist Ruby Jubilee. One by one, the Mane 5 individually approach these musical performers and ask them to perform at Bridlewoodstock, promising each of them that they will serve as the festival's headlining act.
The trouble with Troggles[]
The ponies return to Bridlewood to set up for the festival and start spreading the word around town about Bridlewoodstock, but the unicorns are too scared of the idea of attracting the Troggles to help with the festival setup or sign up to perform. According to some local unicorns, Troggles are magical spirit creatures that emerge at night during the Lumi-Bloom and steal things from ponies if they hear any singing or noise. Despite her friends' growing anxieties about the Troggles, Pipp aggressively advertises Bridlewoodstock on television and social media.
At Mane Melody, Sunny Starscout observes the Dreamlands' rehearsal when disagreements and a lack of coordination between bandmates Minty, Snuzzle, and Blue Belle hamper progress. Minty fears their band's sound and style are too outdated for the current generation, but Sunny assures them that their classic sound is beloved by many. Meanwhile, Hitch Trailblazer and Zipp Storm ask around Bridlewood about the Troggles, but the unicorns they speak with is less than forthcoming. As Pipp decorates the festival stage with rubies in honor of Ruby Jubilee and some unicorns start to help with the festival preparations, Hitch and Zipp start to believe the Troggles really are nothing more than a unicorn fairy tale.
Attack of the voice stealers[]
On the night of Bridlewoodstock, many ponies come from all over Equestria to enjoy the festival music and take in the sights of the Lumi-Bloom. After Hitch, Zipp, and Sparky Sparkeroni receive flower-themed makeovers, Zipp starts to hear the same strange voices that Izzy heard days earlier. Pipp alerts her friends to the fact that, due to their earlier miscommunications to Electric Blue, Ruby Jubilee, and the Dreamlands, all three musical acts are under the impression that they are the closing act for Bridlewoodstock.
In an effort to salvage this, the Mane 5 convince Electric Blue and the Dreamlands to perform first instead of last, and Ruby Jubilee also wants to perform first. Thanks to yet another miscommunication, Bridlewoodstock has no closing act, but Zipp convinces Pipp to close out the festival herself, and she agrees. Unbeknownst to the ponies, they are being watched by strange, ghost-like creatures.
As night falls on Bridlewoodstock, Ruby Jubilee kicks off the festival's musical acts with a performance of her new song Iconic. In the middle of her performance, however, Ruby's voice suddenly disappears. One of the ghost-like creatures – a Troggle – appears to magically steal her voice. Dozens of Troggles suddenly descend upon the festival and start stealing other ponies' voices, sending the festival goers into a panic.
We put our hooves together[]
When Izzy recalls an old unicorn rhyme related to the Troggles, it gives Zipp the idea to banish them by giving them rubies. Using the rubies that Pipp lined the festival stage with, the Mane 5 give the Troggles rubies, appeasing their desire to steal things. They vanish in puffs of smoke, and the voice they stole return to their rightful owners. With the festival saved, Pipp goes on stage and apologizes to everyone present, especially the unicorns for not heeding their warnings about the Troggles.
Pipp declares the first – and last – Bridlewoodstock over, but the unicorns do not want it to end, having experienced fun during the Lumi-Bloom for the first time. To officially close out the festival, Pipp, Ruby Jubilee, the Dreamlands, and Electric Blue team up to perform the song Hooves Together, and the special ends with a lavish fireworks show under the Bridlewood moon.
Quotes[]
- For more quotes, see the episode's transcript.
- Sunny Starscout: Izzy, what are we doing in the middle of the Bridlewood forest at night?
- Izzy Moonbow: It's a surprise! If I told you, you wouldn't be surprised!
- Zipp Storm: She does have a point there.
- Izzy Moonbow: It's called the "Lumi-Bloom". Every moon season, for one week only, all of the plants and stuff in this part of Bridlewood go all wild and glowy!
- Pipp Petals: We can share this beautiful sight with everypony if we bring them all here.
- Izzy Moonbow: Whoa. How are we gonna do that?
- Pipp Petals: By hosting the biggest and brightest musical festival that Equestria's ever seen! Or heard.
- Troggle: Yeeeessss... Sing for us, ponies... [maniacal laughter echoing]
- Pipp Petals: If you can dream it, you can do it, Izzy.
- Izzy Moonbow: [gasps] I just dreamed that I crafted an entire sailboat out of tortilla chips!
- Izzy Moonbow: We unicorns think it's kinda jinxie to sing or make any loud noises during the Lumi-Bloom because of the... [whispering] the Troggles!
- Pipp Petals: Is that it? An old "jinxie" rumor?
- Zipp Storm: Pegasi love music festivals. They're kind of a big deal in Zephyr Heights. Pipp has always wanted to plan one of her own, so she must be feeling the pressure to make it perfect.
- Pipp Petals: I think we can get Electric Blue.
- Hitch Trailblazer: The super epic Pegasus rock band?
- Pipp Petals: Wow, Hitch! I didn't know you were such a musical expert!
- Hitch Trailblazer: I know things.
- Sunny Starscout: We could get... The Dreamlands!
- Jazz Hooves: No way!
- Sunny Starscout: They're this really famous Earth pony trio that I loved when I was younger. They practically invented the genre of "girl group" music.
- Ruby Jubilee: After the success of my debut single, I've just been putting so much pressure on myself to top it with a new hit. Ugh! But how do you top a chart-topper?
- Minty: The Dreamlands broke up moons and moons ago. Even if I could convince Snuzzle and Blue Belle, we're so out of practice.
- Onyx:
- "Eyes of the monster, form of the pig
- Sing, laugh, or yell, step hoof on a twig
- Troggles appear, steal what's to be
- No cure to be found, past the red ruby"
- Minty: The dance moves are off, our looks are dated, and...
- Snuzzle: We can't agree on what song to perform.
- Minty: Blue Belle thinks we should try and update our sound to appeal to a younger audience, but that's not so easy.
- Sunny Starscout: Don't give up! And don't try to change yourselves. Your classic sounds are what everypony loves about you! You just have to do what you do best, and you're gonna rock that stage!
- Pipp Petals: I'm just so thrilled with how everything is coming together with no snags at all!
- Pipp Petals: Two of our major musical acts, Electric Blue and Ruby Jubilee, are here!
- Hitch Trailblazer: That's a good thing, though, right?
- Pipp Petals: Uh, it would be, if they didn't both think they're the headliner! I just don't understand how this mix-up happened!
- Zipp Storm: Ohhhh... I may... have had something to do with that... Whoopsies?
- Pipp Petals: So now we have three openers and nopony who wants to be a headliner?!
- Hitch Trailblazer: Yup. That's the situation. Mm-hmm.
- Unicorn Mare: TROGGLES!!!
- Pipp Petals: [amplified] So I just wanna say that I'm sorry. To everypony. But especially to the residents of Bridlewood. This forest is your home, and you know it best. You tried to warn me, but I didn't wanna listen to you. Or to my friends. Who only wanted to help make my dream of this festival come true. I guess I just got so focused on planning the perfect Bridlewoodstock festival that I forgot to consider Bridlewood. And all of the history that comes along with it. Even the jinxie stuff. But I know better now, and I wanna thank you all for coming to the first... and last... Bridlewoodstock.
- Unicorn Stallion 1: Don't stop it now!
- Unicorn Stallion 2: This is most fun we've ever had during the Lumi-Bloom!
- Unicorn Stallion 3: Now that the Troggles are gone, we're not scared anymore!
- Pipp Petals: What do you think, Ruby?
- Ruby Jubilee: [laughs] I think the fans have spoken.
