Princess Pipp Petals, full name Philomena Petals,^{[note 2]} is a female Pegasus pony and one of the main characters of My Little Pony: A New Generation and My Little Pony Generation 5. She is a princess of Zephyr Heights, Zipp Storm's younger sister,^{[note 1]} Queen Haven's youngest daughter, and a famous pop singer and social media influencer.

Development and design[]

Pipp Petals was designed by character artist Celia Kaspar.^[1] Hasbro filed trademarks for the names "Pipp Petals"^[2] and "Princess Petals"^[3] with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on February 25, 2021.

Depiction in A New Generation[]

In My Little Pony: A New Generation, Pipp appears as a princess of Zephyr Heights, pop singer, and social media celebrity. Sunny Starscout and Izzy Moonbow arrive in Zephyr Heights on the day of a royal celebration, during which Pipp is scheduled to debut a brand new song. When Sunny and Izzy are brought before Pipp and her mother Queen Haven and sister Zipp Storm, Pipp reveals their presence to the entire city through social media (to her mother's chagrin). She later visits Sunny and Izzy in the dungeons ("For the content") and tells them that the royal family are the only Pegasi able to fly, though Zipp later reveals this to be false.

When the celebration gets underway, Pipp sings the song Glowin' Up while performing an aerial routine on wires. During this, Sunny, Izzy, and Zipp try to steal the magical Pegasus Crystal from Queen Haven's crown while avoiding Haven's pet pomeranian Cloudpuff and Maretime Bay sheriff Hitch Trailblazer. Through Sunny, Izzy, and Zipp's interference, Pipp's wires and inability to fly are revealed to the audience, exposing her and her family as frauds.

After Haven is arrested and additional arrest warrants are put out for Pipp and Zipp, Pipp gives the Pegasus Crystal to Sunny and her friends and gets dragged into their quest to bring magic back to Equestria. Though she initially bears resentment toward Zipp and the others for causing her mother to be arrested and herself to be seen as a criminal, and only comes along because restoring magic is the only way to salvage her reputation, Pipp eventually comes to view them as friends and their quest as important.

Pipp and her friends acquire the Unicorn Crystal in Bridlewood, but nothing happens when it is joined together with the Pegasus Crystal. Sunny returns to Maretime Bay in failure and despair, but Pipp and the others follow out of a desire to stay friends with her. Upon arriving, they get swept up in Hitch's deputy Sprout's destructive plot to wage war against unicorns and Pegasi. After Sunny succeeds in bringing the three pony races together, Pipp and her new friends happily welcome a new age of friendship and magic.

Depiction in Make Your Mark[]

In the hour-long special My Little Pony: Make Your Mark, Pipp takes part in preparations for Maretime Bay Day by writing a new anthem for the holiday. When Zipp believes something is wrong with magic, Pipp initially believes she is worrying over nothing. When Zipp is proven right, Pipp and her friends work to fix things by easing the tensions between the three pony races. During the festival, the debut of Pipp's new song is interrupted by Earth pony protest, causing magic to go haywire. After the crisis is resolved, Pipp invites the repentant Posey to sing the new song with her.

In Izzy Does It, Pipp tries to help Izzy with her creative block, only to develop one herself. Izzy helps her by remixing one of her old songs. In Growing Pains, Pipp notices a tree glowing multiple colors, a consequence of Hitch insisting that Earth ponies hold in their newfound magic. She is also present for Twilight Sparkle's warning, and her magic combines with her friends to create a tree to stop a giant glimmerberry. In Portrait of a Princess, Pipp is very excited about Royal Portrait Day. Zipp convinces her to help her find an ocean lily, with Pipp only learning later on that she was just using it as an excuse to ditch Portrait Day. After the two get trapped in a cave, they fall to arguing but manage to reconcile. Pipp enlists the aid of the Pippsqueaks to escape, and she and Zipp make it back to Zephyr Heights in time for the portait painting.

In Ali-Conned, Pipp is dismayed to find that her popularity is dropping. After seeing how popular Hitch's videos of Sparky Sparkeroni are, she asks to look after the baby dragon in hopes of replicating what makes him so popular. While the attempt fails, Pipp ends up regaining some of her popularity after Sparky posts a video compilation of her babysitting mishaps. In The Cutie Mark Mix-Up, Pipp, along with Izzy and Zipp, struggle to keep a stampede of frightened critters out of the Brighthouse. In The Traditional Unicorn Sleep-Over, Pipp attends Izzy's Bridlewood-themed sleepover and meets Misty. When Izzy gets upset over Misty leaving, Pipp, Sunny, and Zipp cheer her up by turning their sleeping area into a replica of Bridlewood.

In Hoof Done It?, Pipp finds Sunny's missing lantern, but, noticing how much Zipp is enjoying exercising her detective skills, keeps it hidden for a little while longer. She ultimately tells Zipp this after she accuses Misty of stealing it. In Have You Seen This Dragon?, Pipp tries to help Hitch find the missing Sparky, but her efforts accidentally sabotage the others. After Sunny convinces them to combine their efforts, Pipp sings a lullaby she wrote for Sparky, allowing them to find the baby dragon when he responds.

In the My Little Pony: Winter Wishday special, Pipp is first seen rehearsing with Zipp for their performance in the Zephyr Heights Wishentine Royal Carousel Concert. Alongside her friends, Pipp travels across Equestria, learning about the traditions of the Earth pony holiday of Wishday and the unicorn holiday of Wishiehoof, before she and Zipp take part in the Concert. At the end of the special, she and her friends witness the Wishing Star pass over the Brighthouse.

In the My Little Pony: Bridlewoodstock special, Pipp is inspired by the Bridlewood "Lumi-Bloom" to create a music festival. When Izzy mentions creatures known as Troggles that appear during the phenomenon, Pipp dismisses it as a myth. She and Izzy manage to recruit Pegasus singer Ruby Jubilee as the headliner. As the festival gets underway, Pipp learns that the other acts also believe themselves to be the headliners. Just as things seem to have been straightened out, the festival is attacked by the Troggles, who steal ponies' voices. After the Troggles are repelled, Pipp apologizes to everypony, declaring the festival over. However, she is convinced otherwise by the unicorns, who make it clear that they had fun.

In Top Remodel, Pipp enjoys exploring the empty Canterlogic factory, thrilled by the idea that it might be haunted. When she learns that it is actually infested with mice, she and Hitch work together to encourage the mice to leave. In The Jinxie Games, Pipp panics when Queen Haven fails to arrive for brunch, believing she has been kidnapped. She soon learns that Haven has gotten romantically involved with Alphabittle. In Sunny Side Up, Pipp encourages Sunny and Hitch to film a smoothie-making show, which does not go according to plan. In The Manesquerade Ball, Pipp attends the ball with her friends and performs Sunny's "unity dance".

In A Little Horse, Pipp falls ill just before a social media collaboration and struggles with staying in bed and resting. With her friends' help, she recovers enough to perform the collaboration from the Brighthouse. In Missing the Mark, Pipp and her friends discover Sparky is once again missing. Misty leads them to Opaline's castle, where Opaline captures them and reveals that Misty is working for her. After Misty has a change of heart and frees them, Pipp and the others lend their cutie mark magic to Sunny, allowing her to overcome Opaline.

In Cutie Blossom Bash, Pipp and her friends bring Misty to Zephyr Heights to celebrate getting her cutie mark. Along the way, Pipp relates the story of how she got her cutie mark.

In Family Trees Pt. 1, the Mane Five travel to Bridlewood after Misty starts having strange dreams. For the trip, Pipp decides not to post anything on her phone. When the ponies discover the Breezies' Night Market, Pipp has to keep her phone away from the Breezies, who see it as a form of magic they haven't seen before. In Family Trees Pt. 2, Pipp travels with her friends to the Dragonlands, and helps them get back to the portal that got them there by leaving a trail of flower petals. She is also present when Misty reunites with her father, Alphabittle.

In Father of the Bridlewood, she is convinced by Pipp to give Misty and Alphabittle some space to get to know each other. In Mane Smelody, Pipp discovers a flower that makes hooves extremely shiny, but at the same time extremely smelly. Izzy helps her resolve this by providing a flower that neutralizes the smell.

In Nightmare on Mane Street, Pipp dresses as a witch for Nightmare Night, and spends the night trying (and failing) to scare Misty. She is also present when Sparky's fire uncovers a map to the Isle of Scaly.

In The Isle of Scaly, Pipp and her friends travel to the dragons' home, narrowly avoiding a crash landing when the Hope Lantern's power suddenly weakens. Soon after they meet the dragons, Pipp chooses to stay with Izzy and Misty to try and see what the problem is with the Marestream. While they are unable to solve the problem, the dragons give them a ride back to Equestria.

In Roots of All Evil Pt. 1, the ponies return to Maretime Bay to discover that Opaline has corrupted the Together Tree and started stealing cutie marks. Pipp goes with Zipp to defend Zephyr Heights from Opaline's next attack. In Roots of All Evil Pt. 2, Pipp and Zipp take on Opaline when she attacks Zephyr Heights, distracting her with a song and then trapping her and the dragons in a large tarp. However, Opaline quickly breaks out and takes their cutie marks. Soon after, Pipp realizes that an image of a Together Tree seemingly taking magic from ponies actually depicts the opposite, and she, Zipp and Misty help rally all the ponies of Equestria to sing in front of them. The ponies unity spreads through the Together Trees, purifiying Opaline's and aiding in her defeat.

In My Little Pony: Secrets of Starlight, Pipp and her friends investigate the portal that has formed in Opaline's Together Tree, which brings them to Starlight Ridge. There, they meet the Auroricorns, soon learning that they are in the thrall of a winged snow leopard named Allura. Working together, they are able to free the Auroricorns from Allura's thrall and repel the villain from Starlight Ridge.

Pipp is featured in the film's book adaptations, including My Little Pony: A New Adventure, My Little Pony: Ponies Unite, the My Little Pony Annual 2022, and My Little Pony: Story of the Movie.

Pipp also appears in the 2D animated YouTube web series My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale, which is set after the events of A New Generation. She has a non-playable role in My Little Pony: A Maretime Bay Adventure.

IDW comics[]

Pipp features in the 2022 My Little Pony comic book series by IDW Publishing. In Issue #1, she plays flyball with Zipp and Sunny but later falls out of the sky when her magic briefly stops working and gets saved by Izzy. She and her friends discover that one of the Unity Crystals has been stolen, and they set out to track down the thief. In Issue #2, they discover the ruins of Canterlot and learn that Discord stole the crystal and plans to destroy it in order to ensure peace in Equestria. In Issue #3, she suggests asking her fans if they've seen any sign of Discord, but Zipp shoots the idea down for fear of causing a panic.

In Issue #4, she goes through with mentioning Discord to her followers and also shares with them her thoughts and feelings via text posts. When a post about how she felt the day the royal family's deception was revealed gets little feedback, she almost deletes it, until a young unicorn named Felicity comments that the story helped her reconcile with her friends. In Issue #5, Pipp and her friends follow a lead on Discord's whereabouts to a lighthouse owned by Lightning Rod, who tells them stories of the Mirror of Mayhem, a dangerous artifact created by Discord himself.

In Issue #6, Pipp's keen eye allows the group to follow Discord's animal friend, Reginald Fursome, which leads them to Fluttershy's old cottage. There, they find a message Fluttershy left for Discord (which Pipp records on her phone). In Issue #7, she asks Hitch to fill in for the absent camera pony at her concert, and joins the others in setting up Hitch's Harvest Day deejay booth in return. She appears in a flashback in Issue #8, inviting Sunny to join her and Zipp in a flight, then later trying Sunny and Izzy's new smoothie.

In Issue #9, Pipp locates an old Daring Do book, allowing the Mane Five to finally figure out where Discord is going, but the journey there is complicated by their weakening magic and slowly developing animosity. When the group find Discord, they are unable to stop him from capturing them and escaping once more. In Issue #10, the friends reconcile, escape, and confront Discord again. The recording of Fluttershy's message Pipp took earlier ends up being crucial to convincing Discord to stand down.

In Issue #11, Pipp, realizing that her social media presence is dropping, decides to undertake a challenge involving summoning a vengeful ghost. A number of odd happenings seem to confirm that the ghost is real, but Pipp learns that Zipp is playing a prank on her. In Issue #13, Pipp and her friends take part in the annual Maretime Bay Beachside Bake-Off. While they initially have trouble deciding on a recipe, they ultimately work together by combining ingredients that each one likes, with chocolate being Pipp's contribution. In Issue #14, Pipp gets angry at Violette Rainbow for accidentally causing a fire inside Mane Melody, leading to an argument between her and Izzy. She later expresses remorse and apologizes to both.

My Little Pony: Bridlewoodstock: In Drop The (Lost The) Mic, Pipp's lucky microphone is taken by a Troggle and recovered by Sparky, though Pipp remains oblivious to the situation. In A Bad Case of Aponyia, Pipp is skeptical that Cherry, the lead singer of the Hoofpicks, had their voice stolen by a Troggle. This leads to a disagreement with the band where Pipp insults their music. After Cherry recovers their voice, Pipp apologizes for what she said.

In Issue #16, Pipp, after arguing with Zipp over whose responsibilities are hardest, inadvertently draws the attention of a nymph named Milkyway, who switches the sisters' lives. In Issue #17, Pipp and her friends seek out Milkyway in hopes of getting her to reverse what they did. Milkyway refuses, saying that the magic can only be undone once Zipp understands the pressures of Pipp's pop star life. Though Pipp initially scoffs at the idea, Zipp eventually convinces her to give her royal duties a try. In Issue #18, Pipp attempts to organize the royal dinner in favor of other ponies' social media habits, but it ends in disaster. In Issue #19, Pipp helps Zipp with choreography for her show, and assists with her publicity problems, with Zipp helping to clean up the dining hall. In Issue #20, Pipp responds to Milkyway's creation of a massive storm by deciding to hold a livestream of the royal dinner and concert. She and Zipp perform together at the concert, with their newfound respect for each other reversing the switch.

Pipp is briefly mentioned in My Little Pony 40th Anniversary Special story Tales of Dream Valley.

In IDW Endless Summer - My Little Pony, Pipp helps Sunny to get over the end of summer by reminding her of her favorite winter activities (alongside Zipp). She also joins the rest of her friends in treating Sunny to one last summer outing.

In My Little Pony: Black, White & Blue, Pipp helps to cheer up the ponies of the near-colorless Maretime Bay with a blue-themed fashion show.

In the My Little Pony: Mane Event story Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow, Pipp accidentally uses hair growth formula on Sparky giving him long, red locks, and scrambles to undo it before Hitch picks Sparky up.

In the first issue of My Little Pony: Set Your Sail, Pipp is instructed by Queen Haven to meet with the queen of the Seaponies. Despite wanting to stay in Equestria for the release of her new album, Pipp reluctantly agrees, and allows Izzy to join her. Along the way, the two are ambushed by pirates. In Issue #2, the pirates' captain, Starboard, tells Pipp that she and her crew need her help to get a message out into the world, claiming that Sparkling Sea is trying to wipe them out. In Issue #3, Pipp learns more about the Trenchponies and the source of the problems in the Sparkling Sea. She proceeds to send her message across the ocean, warning the denizens of the true intentions of Queen Calla Lily. When Calla Lily's actions trigger an earthquake that drops the trenchponies' chest of sentimental treasures to fall into a chasm, Pipp joins Izzy and Maris the Crow in attempting to recover it.

In the first issue of My Little Pony: The Storm of Zephyr Heights, Pipp and her friends help Zipp as she stands in for Queen Haven as ruler of Zephyr Heights. She also shows skepticism when Zipp brings up the old Pegasi city of Cloudsdale, believing it to be a myth. In Issue #2, Pipp helps in the evacuation of Zephyr Heights when a huge storm hits. As she, Zipp and Sunny try to get help, they find themselves in the abandoned Cloudsdale, where they learn that the storm is due to the return of magic starting up the old weather factory. In Issue #3, Pipp pacifies the wild animals around the factory with her singing. When shutting down the factory doesn't stop the storm, Zipp has herself, Pipp and Sunny don Wonderbolt uniforms and start breaking the clouds. After Zipp falls unconscious from saving an evacuation ship from the storm, Pipp and Sunny manage to anchor Cloudsdale to the ground, away from Zephyr Heights.

The electronic 6-inch Singing Star Princess Petals toy sings a snippet of the song Glowin' Up. Personality[]

Pipp is portrayed as a lover of celebrity life and being in the spotlight. She loves to sing and perform, and she regularly engages with her adoring fans, whom she affectionately calls the "Pippsqueaks", on social media. Because of this lifestyle, however, she is very often seen using her smartphone, taking selfies and recording videos to post to her social media. She can also be scatterbrained and tactless at times, as demonstrated when she reveals Sunny and Izzy's presence to the public with little regard for how they react. Despite this, Pipp is very charismatic and compassionate, cherishing the love and support of her followers, and she has a strong relationship with her mother Queen Haven.

Her appearances in Tell Your Tale show her to be quite exuberant, even singing her words when she's in high enough spirits. Welcome to Mane Melody shows that she dislikes criticism, as she doesn't take it well when Posey gives the mane-styling Pipp gave her a moderate rating, and is terrified that Phyllis Cloverleaf will destroy her business with a terrible review. Sunny-Day Dinners shows that Pipp likes the idea of being scared, enjoying the "spooky" atmosphere at Prancing Point. In Portrait of a Princess, she says that spooky stories are among her favorite things. She also enjoys the Nightmare Night festivities in Nightmare Night Party and Haunted House, the spooky atmosphere of Bridlewood at nighttime in My Little Pony: Bridlewoodstock, and exploring the abandoned Canterlogic factory in Top Remodel (to the point of being disappointed to learn it isn't haunted).

Pipp takes great pride in her appearance, and as such reacts poorly whenever she gets dirty or disheveled. Pipp also values her followers' admiration and affection, which can cause problems; In A Day in the Life, her need to keep her followers entertained by livestreaming her entire day leads to her overworking herself and falling ill (which Zipp implies happens all too often).

The series also shows that, despite their polar opposite personalities, she and Zipp share a strong sibling bond (though Pipp tends to annoy Zipp by trying to film or take pictures of her against her will).
