"This world will soon be ours."
―Morgan le Fay[src]

Morgan le Fay is a powerful enchantress who was believed to have been an adversary of King Arthur. She was the leader of a coven of witches who got trapped in the Dark Dimension. She sought to take control over Nico Minoru and the Staff of One in order to conquer the world. She managed to escape from the Dark Dimension after inciting Minoru to use the correct spell as she initiated a plan to merge the Dark Dimension and Earth, which she then intended to rule over with an army of slaves created through the Corvus WizPhones. To that end, le Fay enthralled Robert Minoru and took over Wizard, and repeatedly tried to have the Staff of One given to her by Nico. However, le Fay's plans for a world domination were finally foiled by an alliance between both the Runaways and PRIDE, and le Fay was then banished back to the Dark Dimension by Tina Minoru.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

"It was that fear that had me betrayed and banished to the Dark Dimension."
―Morgan le Fay to Nico Minoru[src]

Morgan le Fay lived during the Middle Ages. She was believed to have been an adversary to King Arthur,[1] cementing her in Arthurian legend, leading to books based on her life.[2] During this time, she was in possession of the Staff of One, a magical relic capable of tremendous power. However, the staff was stolen from her, and she became trapped in the Dark Dimension for centuries.[3] During her imprisonment, she made contact with the sorceress Tina Minoru whom she befriended to steal the Staff of One, but her plan fell through when Minoru took the staff for herself.[4]

Manipulating Nico Minoru[]

"You have the power to save your friends right now. You just have to let it in."
―Morgan le Fay to Nico Minoru[src]

In 2018, Morgan le Fay tried to take control of Nico Minoru and the Staff of One. She appeared in Minoru's dream, where she stated that she was here to help her.[5] Later, le Fay used telepathy to communicate with Minoru while she was struggling to defend Alex Wilder to decrypt the Abstract at the Stein Mansion. Le Fay told Minoru to let the Dark Dimension energy in, but Minoru refused because she was scared that she would hurt people. Later, after rescuing Karolina Dean, Minoru attempted to burn the Staff of One, but before she did it, le Fay used telepathy to communicate with Minoru once again and incited her to master the Staff of One with le Fay as a mentor. However, Minoru refused and burned the Staff of One right away.[6]

When Minoru went inside the Minoru Mansion to find Inhibitor Pods, Le Fay created an illusion of Robert Minoru to ask her about the Staff of One. Later in the Hostel, Le Fay appeared in a mirror to tease Minoru that the Staff of One now resided inside Minoru. Le Fay telepathically communicated with Minoru one last time during the Battle at the Marine Vivarium Desalination Plant, urging Minoru to embrace the powers coming from the Dark Dimension and to manifest the Staff of One, without which she would not be able to defend her friends against the Gibborim.

Robert Minoru and Morgan le Fay - R304

le Fay visits Robert Minoru

The power of the spell unleashed by Minoru under le Fay's advice was enough for le Fay to finally escape from the Dark Dimension. Arriving in the Earthly Plane, le Fay set in motion the rest of her plan to take over the world. She began by going to South Los Angeles Medical Center where, after casting a spell on a nurse to enter, she revived Robert Minoru.[7] Le Fay had also planned for her emissary in the Dark Dimension, Quinton the Great, disguised as Amy Minoru, to turn in Minoru to her, but this failed, as Quinton the Great eventually chose to protect Minoru from le Fay.[8]

Taking over Wizard[]

"She's working at Wizard?"
"After your mom almost blew up that plant disappeared, Wizard was in crisis. But Morgan, marketing genius that she is, turned it all around."
"We do it together, your father is a marvel."
―Nico Minoru, Robert Minoru and Morgan le Fay[src]

Due to the disappearance of Tina Minoru, and with Robert Minoru being under le Fay's control through a Crow Necklace, the Minoru's company Wizard went through a deep crisis. Le Fay therefore used this circumstance to become a vital member of the company, starting a relationship with Robert in the process. Six months after she escaped from the Dark Dimension, le Fay had used her influence to put Wizard back on tracks, thus earning a very good reputation and Robert's enthralled admiration, and she became the figurehead for the advertising campaign of Wizard's new product, the Corvus WizPhone, which actually were tools of enthralling that le Fay planned on delivering all over the Earth.

Merry Meet Again 2

Morgan le Fay meets with Robert and Nico

Knowing that Nico Minoru had escaped from the Dark Dimension as well, le Fay had Robert invite her for a meal at the Essex Tower Hotel. Once Nico arrived, le Fay froze time around her so that only Nico and herself were able to interact. Le Fay then explained that she had left the Dark Dimension thanks to Nico. She then reminded what Nico had done to Robert, and offered her to help rescue Alex Wilder from the Dark Dimension. Le Fay then resumed the natural course of time and enjoyed a meal with Robert and Nico, inviting the latter to a Wizard party.

Le Fay then went to visit Tamar, who was now married with Geoffrey Wilder, and announced that the headquarters of the Corvus commercial operation would open in their neighbourhood. She then returned to the Essex Tower Hotel to organize the party, during which le Fay was appointed by Robert as the new CEO of Wizard. Following the announcement, le Fay was abruptly approached by Tina and taunted her, stating that Tina could not harm her since her Morgan le Fay's Coven protected her. This, however, did not prevent le Fay from being slapped by Tina before she was taken away by security.

Morgan le Fay's Coven's ritual

As the party resumed, le Fay noticed Nico's girlfriend Karolina Dean watching a ritual performed by the Coven. Le Fay then stated that Nico's life belonged to her and not to Dean, but she could not help but notice Dean's hybrid nature due to her Gibborim heritage. She then watched as Nico and Dean argued, which ended with Nico agreeing to join le Fay's Coven. Le Fay, using the Darkhold and a ceremonial blade, thus formally conducted the ceremony during which Nico was inducted into the Coven.[8]

Minoru Rebellion[]

"Oh, Nico. You are a Minoru after all. Betrayal is woven into your very soul."
―Morgan le Fay to Nico Minoru[src]

In the next morning, while Nico Minoru and the other witches of the Morgan le Fay's Coven were still asleep, le Fay left the place of the ceremony and returned to her room at the Essex Tower Hotel. She then asked Robert Minoru to bring his daughter to her. Once Nico had arrived, le Fay complimented her on what she had achieved during the ceremony and on her tremendous potential, but could not help but mention that she had not shown the Staff of One to the witches. As Nico explained that her top priority was rescuing Alex Wilder from the Dark Dimension, le Fay renewed her promise to help Nico, but insisted that she needed her to bring the Staff of One to do so.

Later, le Fay got to watch an internet streaming from the Runaways revealing that the Corvus WizPhones affected their users by making them violent. Since this endangered her operation, she used her powers to delete the video from the internet and prevent the Runaways from recording another one, and instructed Bronwyn and Cassandra to handle the Runaways. She then welcomed Geoffrey Wilder in her office and mentioned that she might knew where his son Alex was and how he could bring her back. As Geoffrey got closer to her, waiting for le Fay to give more details, she gave her a Crow Necklace, thus placing Geoffrey under her control.

As the day progressed, le Fay saw Nico returning to the hotel, but still without the Staff of One. As Nico explained that she wanted to confirm that Alex was still alive before proceeding, le Fay agreed, insisting to do it in her room. She put Nico in front of a mirror, and was able to show Nico a picture of Alex being apparently tortured by someone in the Dark Dimension. This seemingly convinced Nico to bring le Fay to the Staff of One, much to her satisfaction.

Morgan le Fay - Darkhold - R307

Morgan le Fay takes the Darkhold from Robert

However, while they were on the way, le Fay sensed that something had happened to the Darkhold. Understanding that Nico had lied to her and had associated with her mother Tina, le Fay immediately teleported to the Darkhold, finding it in the hands of Robert, who had been freed of his own Crow Necklace by Tina. Le Fay summoned the grimoire back into her hands, before using her magic to incapacitate Robert and aspire the dark magic that kept him alive, stating that Tina deserved to lose her daughter and husband and that she would enjoy Tina's distress.[2]

The Corvus Operation[]

"You can't force people to follow you, that has to be earned."
"I beg to differ. There are millions of people following my every command right now, glued to their phones for the rest of their miserable little lives."
―Nico Minoru and Morgan le Fay[src]

Thanks to Bronwyn and Cassandra, le Fay was able to capture Molly Hernandez, who she enthralled and planned on using as a sacrifice to activate a spell meant to merge the Dark Dimension with the Earthly Plane. In order to prevent the Runaways from interfering, le Fay had her Morgan le Fay's Coven force Hernandez to contact the Runaways and pretend that she was fine. She then instructed her followers to take Hernandez to the Olympic Grand Hotel, where the sacrifice would be held. Unbeknownst to le Fay, however, her conversation with Bronwyn was overheard by Geoffrey Wilder, who had been freed of her control.

R309 Witches Ritual

Le Fay gathered her witches on the roof of the Olympic Grand Hotel, forming a circle in the middle of which Hernandez was placed. Instructing her followers to remain focused, le Fay then initiated the spell, reciting the formulas that summoned a strike of lightning which directly hit Hernandez on the chest. However, Hernandez was eventually rescued by Geoffrey and Tina Minoru. Since le Fay could not break her incantation for her spell to work, she let the three of them go, but not before trying to have Hernandez attack Geoffrey and Tina. Once the incantation was over, le Fay declared that Hernandez had served her purpose despite her escape.

RS3E9 18

le Fay arrives at the Hostel

Le Fay returned to her study in the Essex Tower Hotel, standing at the center of her circle of witches and gathering the energy of the Corvus WizPhones that had been distributed all around California, which considerably enhanced le Fay's powers. Since le Fay still needed the Staff of One to rule over the world she desired to create, she teleported inside the Hostel and confronted the Runaways. As she inquired about Nico Minoru, she was attacked by the latter who threw a dagger at her. Nevertheless, le Fay revealed that this weapon could not kill her and in fact would made her stronger, proving her point by absorbing it into her body.

Stating that the Runaways did not stand a chance against her, le Fay ordered her to submit to her, claiming that they could change the world by her side and she would rid it of all the plagues like poverty and corruption. Initially, she believed to have convinced Alex Wilder and the other Runaways as all of them but Nico knelt before her. Le Fay kept taunting Nico, assuming that she could not kill her even with the Staff of One thanks to the power of the Corvus phones, until she realized that something was wrong. Indeed, the Runaways were assisted by Janet and Victor Stein, who activated the Disruptor that cut off the cell towers, thus weakening le Fay as she could no longer rely on the Corvus users.

RS3E9 39

Morgan le Fay tortures Karolina Dean

Le Fay slowly collapsed on the stairs due to the loss of power, but despite this setback, she remained powerful enough to single-handedly take on the Runaways. As she attacked them with her dark magic, they were shielded by Nico and were able to escape, while le Fay attempted to engulf Nico in her magic, even though the teenager was protected by Karolina Dean's light for a time. Eventually though, le Fay was able to incapacitate Dean and seemingly defeated Nico.[4] As she declared victory, she knocked unconscious Hernandez who tried to attack her.

However, before le Fay could strike the final blow, she was confronted by a future version of Chase Stein, who accused her of having stolen the Runaways' childhood with her crimes and manipulations. Le Fay mocked his speech, stating that she would not listen to it, and attacked him, but was surprised when Stein was protected by another version of Nico Minoru. Le Fay was still able to defeat this other Minoru as well as another version of Karolina Dean before setting her attention back onto Stein.

RS3E10 34

le Fay kills Chase Stein

As Stein received the assistance of Gert Yorkes, a situation which he wanted to avoid at all cost since he had time-traveled to prevent her from being killed by le Fay, the enchantress ironically commented on their love, claiming that it was not suppose to work but did nonetheless. She then projected Yorkes onto a wall, knocking her unconscious, and deflected the blasts of Stein's Fistigons with ease when he attempted to retaliate. Le Fay then threw glass shards onto Stein, mortally wounding him. However, as he collapsed on the floor, le Fay realized that he had trapped her within a circle of magical salt. Even though le Fay claimed that it would not hold her for long, this gave Tina Minoru enough time to arrive and cast a spell which banished le Fay back into the Dark Dimension.[9]

Personality[]

"Poverty, disease, hunger. Corruption. These are the very reasons people turn to spirituality and religion. And yet the world still suffers. Some things will need to be razed to the ground. But only so we can rebuild, and the new world we build will be greater than you could ever imagine. Or you can live a life of endless torture. Your choice."
―Morgan le Fay to the Runaways[src]

A cunning, manipulative and extremely powerful enchantress, le Fay was utterly dedicated to her wish to merge Dark Dimension and the Earthly Plane and to rule the resulting word, and showed little to no concern regarding to who would get hurt along the way. She herself declared that she had no soul, and proudly displayed her apparent lack of attachment to anyone. Indeed, every instance she was shown to befriend or show any kind of affection towards someone proved to be a manipulation, such as when she pretended to be Tina Minoru's friend only to lay her hands on the Staff of One or when she enthralled Robert Minoru to be his lover so that she could take over Wizard and enact her Corvus operation. She was not bound by any form of morality, as she did not hesitate to consider sacrificing the young Molly Hernandez for her plan and threatened the Runaways with endless suffering should they refuse to kneel before her. Although le Fay would on occasions expose altruistic motives for her plan, such as ridding the world from poverty, corruption and other global issues, and that she wanted to show the world how women could be powerful, le Fay actually worked for her sole interest. In this regard, she was called a bully and a hypocrite by Gert Yorkes.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

"I don't need my followers to destroy you all!"
―Morgan le Fay to the Runaways[src]
  • Magic:
    RS3E9 39

Le Fay using her magical powers

Morgan le Fay is an extremely powerful sorceress, able to cast various spells for any number of purposes. Her prowess in sorcery allowed her to gather a whole coven of witches who were entirely devoted to her cause. Among le Fay's abilities brought by magic was the ability to enthrall people to do her bidding, as she did to Robert Minoru or Geoffrey Wilder, a power she intended to extend to the whole world through the use of the Corvus WizPhones. Her powers allowed her to simply deflect attacks from the Fistigons or Karolina Dean's light beams with little effort. Even after she was deprived of a significant part of her powers when the Corvus were down, she single-handedly and effortlessly held her own against the Runaways, including Nico Minoru with the Staff of One, even causing the death of one of them in battle (Gert Yorkes or a future Chase Stein depending on the timeline). However, her magic could still be contained, at least temporarily, with a circle of salt imbued with a more traditional magic than the one le Fay practiced.
    • Telepathy: Le Fay communicated with Nico Minoru by directly speaking into the latter's mind, without those around Minoru being able to hear le Fay's voice. Le Fay notably used this on several occasions to convince Minoru to give in to the powers provided by the Staff of One, and one final whisper was enough for le Fay to give Minoru the formula of a spell which enabled le Fay to escape from the Dark Dimension.
    • Illusion Manipulation: By the time she was still trapped in the Dark Dimension, le Fay created an illusion of Robert Minoru she had interacting with Nico Minoru in an attempt to know what had happened to the Staff of One. Prior to that, she had also transformed a photograph in the Minoru Mansion to make Nico believe that Tina Minoru and le Fay had known each other.
    • Mental Manipulation: While being asked to sign in to a hospital to visit Robert Minoru, le Fay used her magic to make a receptionist forget that she had to sign in. Through her Crow Necklaces, she could also force people to do her bidding without them being unable to resist, thus taking control of Wizard through Minoru and enthralling Geoffrey Wilder as well. Le Fay was also able to manipulate others thanks to the Corvus phones, which continuously emitted a recreation of her voice when activated, so that the users felt compelled to increasingly use them, unknowingly giving power to le Fay.
    • Healing: Using her dark magic, le Fay was able to fully heal Robert Minoru from a coma he had been plunged into due to the severe injury he had suffered from a confrontation against his daughter. However, the healing was only active as long as le Fay wanted it to be, and as such Minoru promptly began dying again when le Fay withdrew the energy she had given him.
    • Portal Creation:
      Runaways S3 - 1286568

Morgan le Fay appears through a portal

Le Fay was able to create a portal to enter the Hostel and arrive in front of the Runaways.
    • Mirror Communication: Le Fay used mirrors as means of communication between the Dark Dimension and the Earthly Plane, although she could not use them alone to escape from the Dark Dimension. Thus, she was able to communicate with Nico Minoru while she was still trapped in the Dark Dimension. Le Fay was also able to show Nico Minoru a glimpse of Alex Wilder imprisoned in the dimension once she had been liberated by using the surface of a mirror.
    • Teleportation: Upon sensing that Robert Minoru was touching the Darkhold she possessed, le Fay immediately teleported to his location without even creating a portal, disappearing and rematerializing in a puff of smoke.
    • Energy Manipulation: Le Fay was able to easily transform beams of energy from Karolina Dean and Chase Stein's Fistigons into clouds of smoke.
    • Fire Generation: Le Fay was able to cause several candles to spontaneously ignite.
    • Telekinesis: Le Fay's powers enabled her to remotely manipulate objects, including living organisms. As such, she was able to draw Robert Minoru to her by dragging him through the Crow Necklace le Fay had him wearing. During the Battle at the Hostel, she easily repelled Molly Hernandez as she attempted to sneak behind her, and violently projected glass shards towards a future Chase Stein to kill him.
    • Matter Absorption:

Le Fay absorbs Nico Minoru's dagger

Le Fay absorbed Nico Minoru's dagger, made of a combination of a Lightforce dagger imbued with Minoru's magic, into her own body, claiming that it rendered her stronger.
