The Second Season of Jessica Jones premiered on Netflix on March 8, 2018. It follows the events of the first season of The Defenders.

Synopsis[]

New York City private investigator Jessica Jones is beginning to put her life back together after murdering her tormenter, Kilgrave. Now known throughout the city as a super-powered killer, a new case makes her reluctantly confront who she really is while digging deeper into her past to explore the reasons why.

Plot[]

In 2000, the Jones family is driving a car when Jessica distracts her father, Brian. This causes a crash that the public believes killed everyone, but Jessica.

Alisa Jones and Karl Malus

Jessica's mother, Alisa Jones wakes up from a coma five years later to see Karl Malus and Leslie Hansen. They explain that the only person who survived is Jessica and she was given powers by Malus to survive. Malus did the same to Alisa. She tries to leave, but Malus explains that she has terrible mood swings and that Jessica believes she is dead. Alisa loses control and Malus sedates her. Meanwhile, Jessica is at a bar waiting for her adoptive sister, Trish Walker, to reveal her new hit song, I Want Your Cray Cray. She meets a man named Stirling Adams. Later, she finds Walker doing drugs so she tries to stop her sister, but it causes an argument. Jones decides to leave Walker.

Jones and Adams start a relationship. Adams wants to make a club called "Club Alias" and Jessica supports him. After some time, Adams pushes Jessica to make up with Walker. Jessica finds Walker, who is high. She gets Walker out and they talk. Meanwhile, Dr. Inez Green checks on Alisa, but Alisa jumps up, punches Green and kills Dr. Leslie Hansen before leaving. Jessica and Adams go to a bar, but Jessica leaves to use the bathroom. While she is there, Alisa trails her and finds Adams with his partners who are angry that the club hasn't started. The partners say they will forget about it if he gives them Jessica for muscle to which he agrees. Alisa sees this and confronts Adams who claims he just said that to get them off his back. Alisa then kills Adams. Jessica returns to find Adams on the ground, she yells for help and then hugs his body as police arrive. Alisa returns to Malus and understands that she cannot be out in the world. Jessica finds Walker and they make up.

In the present day, Jessica Jones returns to her Private Investigators Business and starts getting new clients due to her fame. She meets with a man named Robert Coleman or Whizzer, who claims to have super-speed despite his body not looking fit. He says that someone is trying to kill him. Another client, Pryce Cheng wants to buy out Alias Investigations for his own firm, but Jones rudely refuses. Meanwhile, Trish Walker does favors for people as Patsy in order to get a hospital file containing information on the death of the Jones family. Walker goes to Alias Investigations and gives a box to Jones. In the box is Jones' family's ashes. Jones tells Walker that she spent all this time getting over their deaths, she doesn't need more put on her.

Jones tries to dig up dirt on Cheng. Knowing Jones' tendencies, Cheng figures out that she is doing this and sends her all of his information himself. Jones then finds out that her client hired Cheng instead. She goes to Cheng's firm and announces that she found his client's missing dog. As Jones leaves, Cheng provokes her which prompts Jones to knock him over. He then takes out a taser, so Jones throws him through a glass door, but is surrounded by security. Later, Walker bails Jones out of jail. However, Jones is ordered to go to anger management. Walker goes to leave with her boyfriend, Griffin Sinclair, when she thinks she sees Will Simpson outside. She does a double take and sees that he is gone now. Meanwhile, Cheng hires Jeri Hogarth to represent him when he plans on suing Jones.

Jones returns home to find Whizzer still insisting someone is after him. He pulls a gun on Jones and then throws the box containing her brother's ashes at her. She deflects the box and chases him down the street, but she cannot keep up as he uses his super-speed. Suddenly, scaffolding falls on Whizzer and kills him. Jones returns to her apartment and simply stares off into the distance. Malcolm Ducasse comes in and cleans up the ashes. Jones looks in Coleman's bag that he left and finds a location of a laboratory. She reads the name and gets flashes of memories to when she was carried off by a scarred woman.

The next day, Ducasse finds out that the building Jones discovered was leased by Miklos Kozlov. Meanwhile, Hogarth finds out that she has ALS. Jones arrives at Kozlov's home only to find he got into a mysterious car crash and died. Later, detectives Eddy Costa and Ruth Sunday meet with Jones to discuss Coleman's death. They suspect she did it. Jones goes down to her superintendent, Oscar Arocho, whom she knows saw the accident and knows she didn't do it. He tells the detectives that he didn't see it, which angers Jones. Walker sits on the set of a movie when she hears a man walking towards her. She takes out a gun and warns the man, he reveals himself to be Simpson. Walker calls Jones who arrives shortly after. Jones accuses Simpson of killing Whizzer and Kozlov, but he refuses, saying that his new drugs allow him to keep control. Suddenly, the lights go out. Simpson tells them to run while he stays behind to fight the assailant. They soon escape, but find Simpson's corpse later.

Jessica Jones meets with IGH

After they dump Simpson's body in the ocean, they return to Walker's apartment. They hire a hypnotist to help Jones remember her past, but it doesn't work. Jones and Walker find a lead on the IGH case and find Leslie Hansen's apartment. Jones returns home to find an eviction notice on her door. It is illegal to run a business out of your apartment. Jones goes to find dirt on Arocho. She finally does and realized that he helped fake someone's ID. She approaches Arocho who says that he can easily get around it with the police. Hogarth meets with Jones and asks her to find dirt on her associates because they are kicking her out of her firm. Later, Jones is able to get a meeting with Hansen. The meeting soon gets hostile when they talk about IGH and Jones says her family should've stayed dead. An angry Hansen displays powers similar to Jones and then runs away. Jones is able to get a quick picture of her jumping. Through the picture, Jones is able to find that Hansen is wearing a wig.

Jones returns to her apartment and finds Arocho's son, Vido. His son asks her questions and peers over the window sill of her room. He then loses his balance, but Jones saves his life as his parents walk through the door. To Arocho, it looks as if Jones to holding him over the ledge and angrily tells her she has 25 days to leave. Later, Jones meets Walker at a wig shop to find the seller to Hansen. They find a store and looks for more information off of what the owner gave them. When she returns home, Arocho enters her room. He apologizes and says that Vido told him what happened. He tells her that he dropped her eviction and gives her a bottle of whiskey. She invites him inside.

Jones and Walker's leads bring them to an old IGH doctor, Inez Green. They bring Green home with them when they find out she is in danger. Meanwhile, Cheng's friend, Nick Spanos robs Jones' apartment. Hansen catches him and kills him. Jones returns home to find out what happened. The police suspect she killed Spanos and arrest her.

The next day, Hansen feels bad for what she has done and burns her bloody clothes. She then calms down through playing the piano. At the precinct, Jones gives them enough evidence that the murders are Hansen's doing that the detectives release her. On her way out, Costa tells Jones that he trusts her because he was one of the cops that Kilgrave had mind controlled a few years before. Ducasse returns to his apartment to find both Green and his TV gone. He finds her in the street and takes her back. Meanwhile, Walker has been taking Simpson's drug: the Combat Enhancer Inhaler. Green talks to Jones and gives her the name, David Kawecki, a man who she believes was wrongfully convicted of Luanne McClure's murder. Jones meets with Kawecki in prison to find that he is mentally challenged. Kawecki seems to love octopuses, so Jones asks him why. He says that Dr. Karl loves octopuses. Later, Jones goes to the aquarium and finds Dr. Karl Malus with Hansen at the octopus exhibit. They find Jones and Hansen hits the tank, causing a flood.

Jones returns home to find Arocho. Jones wakes up after sex to find that Arocho has been painting her. Jones goes out and finds more information on Malus. She then trails him to his house. She looks around the room and finds a picture of herself when she was younger. Confused, she turns around to see Hansen who explains that she is her mother using Hansen as a fake name. Alisa explains to Jessica why she hasn't been around. She explains what happened to Stirling Adams as well. Jessica hears this and punches Alisa. Malus comes from behind and sedates Jessica.

Jessica wakes up restrained to a bed. Jessica gets out and attacks Malus. She then lock herself in a room and sends a text to Costa with her location. Alisa breaks in and holds Jessica until Malus escapes. Alisa then waits with Jessica, planning to turn herself in and explains that the accident changed her appearance. Meanwhile, Green finds Hogarth's ALS medication and decides to help her. She brings her to her friend, Shane Ryback, who could heal people. Ducasse goes to a gay bar to dig up dirt on Hogarth's associate, Steven Benowitz, to help Jessica. As he walks out, he gets called homophobic slurs. He then gets beat up, but is saved by Walker who is on Simpson's drug. She explains that it will help him heal. He takes it, but immediately regrets it and runs away.

Jessica decides to help her mother and takes Alisa to her apartment. They stay there for a while. However, Cheng waits outside with a sniper. He shoots Alisa, but Jessica saves her. However, Jessica was grazed by the bullet. Alisa angrily charges at Cheng despite Jessica's pleads not to. Alisa catches Cheng and ties him up in Jessica's bathroom. As it turns out, Hogarth and Green are both gay and they sleep together. Hogarth then gets Ryback to stay with them to heal her more. Walker goes to Jessica's apartment. Jessica could tell that Walker is high on something.

Later, Alisa and Jessica talk when Arocho calls Jessica saying that his ex-wife, Sonia, took Vido. They chase Sonia down to a bus stop. They stop the bus and convince Sonia that her son wouldn't want a mother in prison. Meanwhile, Walker goes to take more of the inhaler, but finds that it is out. Jessica and Alisa return home to find Cheng waking up. Jessica talks to him in private and they agree to remain peaceful as they both have dirt that can take out one another. However, Cheng wants her to do something about Alisa. Jessica agrees and calls Costa who comes and arrests Alisa, who agrees to remain peaceful for her daughter.

In jail, Jessica tries to get Alisa to give up Malus' location, but she refuses. Alisa then starts talking about an old hotel that their family used to stay at. Jessica realizes that Alisa slipped up. Alisa is put in a cell with Dale Holiday as her guard. He starts abusing Alisa. Jessica arrives at the hotel and explains to Malus that Alisa will stay in jail if he is safe. She then takes a picture of Malus for a fake ID to get him out of the country. Jessica returns to Alisa to find out that Holiday has been abusing her. Meanwhile, Hogarth returns home to find out she got played. Green and Ryback stole all of her belongings. She breaks down crying. Jessica trails Holiday home and confronts him. He attacks her with pepper spray. She swings a staff at him, which accidentally kills him. She looks at the body in horror.

Jessica starts getting illusions of Kilgrave that she has created herself out of regret. He taunts her throughout the day. Jessica returns home to find that Malus is gone and so is Ducasse. They have been kidnapped by Walker. She realizes that Walker wants powers from Malus. Ducasse breaks out of Walker's trunk and scolds her. She shoots at his feet for a warning shot then leaves with Malus as a hostage. They go to a warehouse with equipment and Walker asks him to experiment on her. He starts the process, but soon Jessica arrives. She knocks out Malus and removes the equipment from Walker. Malus realizes what he has done and tells Jessica to run. He then shoots at the gas tank which blows up the building, killing him.

Jessica brings Walker to a hospital. With all the anger and stress, she yells at Ducasse for practically no reason. He decides to quit because she never treated him right. She then tells the illusion of Kilgrave that she isn't a killer, she can control herself. Kilgrave then disappears. Meanwhile, Alisa sees that Malus has been killed and Walker is the last person who saw him. She then breaks out of jail.

Alisa makes her way to Walker's hospital room and goes to attack her. Jessica, Sunday, and Costa stop her. Alisa then takes Sunday and holds her. She escapes by jumping out the window, taking Sunday with her. Sunday dies when she hits the ground and Alisa gets away. Costa warns Jessica to stay where she is while he checks on his partner. Walker then wakes up to see Jessica. Instead of being grateful, she calls Jessica an asshole for stopping the surgery. Meanwhile, Hogarth finds dirt on Ryback and goes to find Green. She brings Green outside. Green tells her that Ryback and her are in love, but Hogarth proves that he has been in love with many people and have stolen from them each time. Green then walks inside and shoots Ryback. Hogarth sits in her car and calls the police for a murder. Jessica finds Alisa at her apartment. Jessica points a gun at her mother, but hesitates. Alisa then knocks Jessica out, puts her in a car, and leaves the state.

Walker wakes up at the hospital and finds enough strength to leave. Jessica wakes up in the car and Alisa tells her that she hasn't tried to help her yet. Meanwhile, Ducasse fixes up Jessica's apartment as a final send off. He then confirms his appointment with Linda Chao, puts on a suit, and shaves his head. In the street, Alisa and Jessica notice a car crash. They save the family from the fire which makes Alisa feel really good and Jessica thinks there could be hope. Hogarth is at her home when Ducasse walks in. He explains that he tricked Chao into getting blackmail information. Hogarth uses this to win her firm back.

Alisa and Jessica arrive at Playland, an old amusement park that they used to go to. They get on a ferris wheel and talk. Alisa explains that she doesn't want any more harm for her daughter. Alisa called the cops to arrest her. She wants Jessica to leave and not see the cops come. However, Jessica chooses to stay. Suddenly, Jessica hears a gun shot. She looks over to see her mother collapsing. She jumps off the ferris wheel and finds Walker with a gun. She is about the kill Walker, but simply tells her to run. Jessica then walks back to the ferris wheel and sits next to her dead mother. Costa arrives and believes that Jessica shot Alisa herself. He comforts her.

In the days following, Walker tries to make up with Jessica, but to no success. As she walks out, she bumps into someone, causing her to drop her phone. However, she catches it with her foot and realizes she has powers. Jones walks by Ducasse without saying a word and arrives at Arocho's apartment to have dinner.
