With Jeri Hogarth accepting an award and given her speech, Chao and Steven Benowitz both expressed their disapproval with dealing with their partner's legal situation over her former secretary Pam's accusations. Chao's comments about Jeri's dead wife, Wendy Ross-Hogarth caused Jeri to leave the event.[1]
Medical Disclosure[]
- "How did you find out?"
"Oh, doesn't matter. You signed the same contract we did. We are sympathetic, but the medical disclosure clause does require that you disclose any diagnosis with potential to affect job performance." - âJeri Hogarth and Linda Chao[src]
Chao and Steven Benowitz found out that Jeri Hogarth had ALS. They met with her in her office to give her one last chance to leave before firing her because she was a liability. Hogarth was stubborn and did not budge.[2]
Meeting with Millard Graves[]
- "He has contacts overseas who can handle your client's assets with discretion."
"Even the simplest transactions can get complicated by government agencies."
"Which are full of little men with littler bank accounts. They just require the right incentive." - âLinda Chao and Malcolm Ducasse[src]
Chao got a call from Millard Graves who wanted to meet for a job. She met with Graves and talked with him.[3]
Final Negotiations[]
- "You're not gonna expose us. You have too many skeletons in your own seedy closet."
"You should be very afraid of the woman who has absolutely nothing left to lose." - âLinda Chao and Jeri Hogarth[src]
In final negotiations for Jeri Hogarth's exit, Hogarth revealed that Graves was actually Malcolm Ducasse and he recorded the meeting with Chao. In the meeting, Chao revealed incriminating evidence. Hogarth used this to blackmail her and Steven Benowitz into giving her more money; enough to start a business.[3]
