"LĂik'ik Talokan![3]"
―Attuma[src]

Attuma is a fierce Talokanil warrior and one of Namor's advisors.

Biography[]

Talokanil-Wakandan War[]

Attack on the Harvey Sub-Sea[]

Attuma attacks

Attuma springs from the water

Attuma was one of the leaders of the Talokanil Army and was among the best warriors. When they found a Vibranium Detector in the ocean, Attuma and his army went to stop the humans. They swiftly killed Jackson and Rita Salazar before using hypnotic chants to force the Humans overboard. Attuma then dragged Henderson off the ship before jumping out of the water with Namora.

Attuma powerfully sent a spear through the heart of Smitty. Walking over to his victim, he coldly ripped the spear out of the wall. He then faced Graham who started shooting at him, stunned to see it did not pierce his skin. Attuma then told his army to chase after her.[1]

Abducting Riri Williams[]

Attuma with Namora in Cambridge

Namor sent the Talokanil to Cambridge to capture Riri Williams, as well as Princess Shuri. Attuma and Namora arrived on the bridge, throwing a Hydrobomb at the group. Attuma then faced Okoye and saw her plow through his men. He called her warrior, as a sign of respect. He was told by Namora to kill Williams while she would take care of the cops.

Okoye and Attuma duel

Attuma fiercely fights Okoye

As she did that, Attuma fought Okoye, exchanging blows. Attuma was impressed with Okoye's skill, but still took her down by slamming her into her own spear. He then took her spear and passed it back to her, taunting Okoye. She took the spear and fought again but was outmatched. He then picked up her spear once again and told her she was not worth his own axe. He went to kill her, but she shocked him with her tech. Namora then returned, telling Attuma to stop playing games. Attuma then deflected a water bomb at Okoye, sending her over the bridge. He then took off his Talokanil Respirator and gave it to Shuri, telling her to breathe before taking her to Talokan.[1]

Attack on the Golden City[]

When Shuri was broken out, Namor talked to the nation of Talokan and told them it was his fault for exposing them to Wakanda. He vowed to take Wakanda down. The army arrived in Wakanda and sent a tidal wave into the main city. As all commotion broke loose, Attuma got to high ground and scouted out Okoye. He called for her, saying "warrior" once again. She merely looked at him before saving children. The invasion ended with Queen Ramonda's death.[1]

Battle at Sea Leopard[]

"Ajba'ate'el!"[7]
"T'aan áak waale’ i'chi 'na t'aak? Xuluk ch'i'ibalobe yetelo'...[8]"
―Okoye and Attuma[src]

Later, Attuma and Namora informed Namor that there was another Vibranium Detector in the ocean. They located the Vibranium Detector in the Atlantic Ocean, and Namor led his army to it. They approached it, but it emitted a loud frequency. The army arose from the ocean only to see the Sea Leopard in front of them. Black Panther led the charge against the Talokanil. Namora was eventually able to tip the boat, sending Wakandans into the water so they can gain an advantage.

Attuma then made it to the top of the boat and was met by Okoye in her Midnight Angel Armor. She started speaking Yucatec Maya, calling him "warrior". He was impressed that she now spoke the mother tongue, but fought her, nonetheless, briefly gaining an upper hand. They fought some more as Attuma told her it was time to greet her ancestors. Later in the fight, Okoye repeated the same thing back to him before blasting him off the edge of the ship. Finally, the fighting stopped when Namor and Black Panther returned, calling an alliance.[1]

Personality[]

"Chi'kunalook estali'niti ta'witi.[9]"
―Attuma to Okoye[src]

Attuma's definitive trait is his fierce need for battle. During the Talokanil’s mission to capture Riri Williams under Namor’s orders, he was distracted from the mission and fought with Okoye on the bridge. Yet, Attuma is an honorable warrior, returning Okoye her spear so that she could continue to fight against him when she lays defeated on the ground. Attuma also holds great pride in his abilities, as he deemed Okoye unworthy to die under his weapon, so he preferred to kill her with her own spear.

Attuma is, akin to other Talokanil, deeply loyal to his nation and his king. Serving as an advisor of Namor, Attuma holds deep respect for him and would carry out his orders without question. Attuma also led the charge with Namora when they flooded Wakanda and later when they were ambushed by the Wakandans.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

"They were blue. And they had superhuman strength. And they came from the water on the backs of whales. I struck down three of them with blows that should've killed them, but they rose again."
―Okoye[src]
  • Talokanil Physiology: Like all Talokanil, Attuma is an aquatic being with superhuman abilities such as enhanced strength, durability, speed, agility, stamina, reflexes, and accelerated healing. He is also capable of emitting a hypnotic sonic attack with his voice.
    • Superhuman Strength: Attuma possesses enhanced strength. His blows are strong enough that even Okoye with her powerful Vibranium Spear was unable to contain it without being stunned and exhausted.
    • Superhuman Durability: Attuma is more durable than humans. He was unfazed when Graham fired her gun at close-to-medium range.
    • Superhuman Speed: Thanks to living underwater, Attuma is very fast at swimming and is also fast on land.
    • Superhuman Agility: In the water, Attuma has enhanced agility that allows him to dodge his enemies.
    • Superhuman Stamina: During battle, Attuma finds himself being able to last for a long duration without slowing down.
    • Superhuman Reflexes: Attuma is able to dodge several of Okoye's strikes with her spear without much effort.
    • Enhanced Vision: As a being that lives underwater, Attuma has very good vision, capable of seeing in water more than a regular human eye.
    • Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite his body's resistance, Attuma could still be injured like any other Talokanil. However, his metabolism enabled him to rapidly regenerate damaged bodily tissue with great speed, which is more effective when he is in contact with water.
    • Aquatic Adaptation: Attuma is capable of breathing underwater by absorbing the oxygen of the water through the gills in his neck, and his body is specially developed for underwater conditions, granting him specialized blood circulation to withstand freezing temperatures. He possesses a highly developed vision to see clearly even in the near-total darkness of the ocean floor and can also hear underwater as well as humans do on land.
    • Aquatic Telepathy: Like any other Talokanil, Attuma can mentally communicate with marine life and persuade them to do his bidding.
    • Hypnosis: Attuma, as well as other Talokanil can create a sound that hypnotize his victims, leading them to jump into the water, where they will drown. However, this can be stopped by a loud sound.
    • Wallcrawling: Attuma is able to crawl on any type of walls.

Abilities[]

  • Master Combatant: As a Talokanil warrior, Attuma received extensive combat training which allowed for excellent skill in many fields of combat. He is quite confident in his skills, calling Okoye for a fight every time that they see each other, and even returned the latter's spear during their first confrontation. Attuma accurately knocked a water bomb in her direction with his hip similar to a game played by Talokanil children.[10] Attuma defeats Okoye during their first interaction.
  • Attuma

Attuma using his axe in combat against Okoye

Axe Mastery: As a Talokanil warrior, Attuma is extremely skilled at using his axe in close quarters combat and as a long-ranged weapon. He was able to defeat many Wakandan warriors and CIA agents. He is also accurate in throwing it, being able to precisely throw his spear to pierce Smitty.
"The people who took her spoke Yucatec Mayan."
―Griot to Ramonda[src]
  • Multilingualism: Attuma is fluent in his native Yucatec Maya, as well as English.

Equipment[]

Weapons[]

  • Axe: Attuma uses a specialized axe capable of collapsing into a handle for concealment.
  • Talokanil Spear: Attuma used a spear during the Attack on the Harvey Sub-Sea, when he threw it on Smitty, killing him.
  • Vibranium Spear: Attuma did not want to kill Okoye with his axe, deeming her unworthy, so he attempted to use her own weapon against her. However, he was prevented from doing so because the latter used her Kimoyo Beads to shock the handle.

Other Equipment[]

  • Talokanil Respirator: When going out of water onto land, Attuma uses the respirator to survive, as it enables him to breathe on the land, being filled with water. Attuma gave his respirator to Shuri, removing the water, to allow her to return to Talokan with him.
