Synopsis
In Agatha All Along, the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches' Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they're missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road…
Plot
Agatha Harkness, who has been trapped in her mind since the events of WandaVision, gets a rude awakening when she gets a visit from her former lover Rio Vidal and a young mysterious teenager who seems all too interested in her. Rio is actually a fellow witch who is after Agatha, but she insists that she leave her be until she regains her magic. Rio agrees, but warns that the Salem Seven are after her. The Teen, who cannot say his name due to some kind of sigil, asks Agatha for help with locating the Witches' Road, a supposed place where witches seeking power must traverse in order to seek "glory" at the end of it.
Agatha and Teen set out to collect a coven, recruiting the psychic, yet seemingly eccentric, Lilia Calderu, young candle and potions maker Jennifer Kale, and security guard and daughter of a former cursed witch, Alice Wu-Gulliver. Lilia, who jotted the names of those who will join the coven, adds that a "Black Heart" was to also join them, but Agatha chickens out and instead recruits her neighbor Sharon Davis.
The group manage to open the Witches' Road, something that Agatha seems oddly surprised by, and the group walk down the road where they encounter a series of challenges. The first challenge has the group take refuge in a beach house and drink wine. However, the wine is poisoned and they must quickly brew a cure before it takes effect. While they manage to create a cure and escape, Sharon succumbs to the poison. They get a "replacement" in Rio who suddenly manifests after a spell. They are forced to continue and next enter what looks like a recording studio, something that gives Alice grief as it reminds her of her rock star mother. The group perform a rock version of the Witches' Ballad and Alice overcomes her curse.
The group next enter a cabin where they use a Ouija board to talk to spirits, Agatha is possessed by the spirit of her mother who scolds the others for relying on her. Alice attempts to save Agatha, but Agatha absorbs her magic, killing her in the process. By this point, Agatha realizes that the Teen is actually Wanda Maximoff's son, Billy Maximoff. Flashback reveals that Billy Kaplan was leaving his Bar Mitvah with his parents when they got into a car crash right when Wanda's hex was lifting from Westview. Billy's soul went into the teen who died and he has been trying to find his brother Tommy this whole time.
Agatha, Billy, Lilia, and Jen eventually meet up at the next test involving Tarot cards. Lilia, who has been experiencing her life out of order, has actually been predicting this event her whole life. She also reveals that Rio is actually Death and Agatha's former lover, explaining her sudden disappearance and interest in her. Lilia saves the covens' lives, at the cost of her own, while also taking out the Salem Seven. Agatha, Billy, and Jen realize that the road is a circle and enter the final test. Jen finds out that Agatha had bounded her years ago and unbounds herself, regaining her full magic and disappearing from the road. Agatha then helps Billy locate Tommy's soul, finding a body that will also die soon, and he too disappears.
Agatha escapes the final trial, but Death shows up demanding either her or Billy's life as promised. Billy and Agatha battle Death, but Agatha ultimately gives up her life. Billy returns home and comes to the shocking conclusion that the Witches' Road was never real and that he manifested it based on his own interests. Agatha's ghost comes and congratulates him, but Billy is horrified at the fact that he killed Alice, Sharon, and Lilia, though Agatha mentions that he did save Jen. Billy tries to get rid of Agatha, but she finally admits that she is afraid of confronting her son, Nicholas Scratch, in the afterlife. Agatha was forced to lose her son to Death after spending years trying to stay alive. Billy makes amends with Agatha and decides to take her on as a guide, as they leave to go search for Tommy.

Agatha informs the coven that to reach the end of the Road, they will face Trials that focus on the different studies of Witchcraft. While on the way to the first trial, the coven learns of Teen's sigil, preventing witches from learning his name. At the first trial, the coven finds a house with a bottle of wine, which all of them drink (except Teen). A timer starts counting down, and Jennifer realizes the wine contained poison. Sharon, who drank first, faints. As they gather ingredients to create an antidote, each of them hallucinates: Lilia sees a young girl, Jennifer hallucinates a priest forcing her underwater, Alice sees her mother drinking a bottle of poison, and Agatha sees a crib containing a burnt Darkhold. As they prepare the antidote, they notice the house is now underwater. With a few seconds left on the timer, they finish the antidote and drink it, as well feed some to Sharon. As water pours into the house, they escape via a tunnel in the oven, leading them back to the road. As they get up, Teen sees that Sharon is dead.

The coven encounter a house with a 1970s aesthetic that gives Alice grief. Upon entering, they find that it is a recording studio tied to Alice's mother, Lorna Wu. Just as Rio playfully suggests to Agatha that they betray the others, which is overheard by everyone, the Teen accidentally plays a record backwards, that summons a demon that is part of a curse in Alice's family. In order to fight back, the group plays Lorna's version of the Ballad and Alice is able to successfully kill the demon. Teen is revealed to be severely wounded, and the coven escape the house and tend to him, saving his life. Lilia, Alice, and Jen bond with each other while Rio implies the history between herself and Agatha. Agatha checks on the Teen who asks what happened to her son, but she ignores the question. Later, Rio tells Agatha that the Teen is not her son.
5 | "Darkest Hour / Wake Thy Power" | Rachel Goldberg | Laura Monti | October 9, 2024 |

The Witches' Road pulls them to the ground and they enter the next trial which takes the form of a cabin with a 1980s aesthetic. The group must interact with an Ouija board and make contact with a spirit who reveals herself to be Evanora Harkness, Agatha's mother who was killed by her daughter in 1693 along with her previous coven. Warning the current coven against Agatha, Evanora possesses her and starts attacking the group. Alice uses her powers to expel Agatha, who proceeds to absorb her magic. The Teen, noticing another spirit's presence, tries to stop Agatha by shouting the spirit's name: Nicholas Scratch, Agatha's son. Agatha stops, but Alice dies. Agatha insists that it was accidental, while the Teen, having lost faith in her, lashes out. Both Lilia and Jen affirm, however, that their goal is the same as Agatha's, prompting the Teen to shun the coven for their disregard of life in search of power. Agatha mocks the Teen by stating that he is just like his mother, thus revealing Teen's true identity: Billy Kaplan, the reincarnated physical form of Billy Maximoff, Wanda and Vision's son. Angry, Billy magically controls Lilia and Jen's minds to make them toss Agatha into a mud trap before blasting them in as well. As the three witches submerge underground, a magical headwear appears on Billy's head.
6 | "Familiar by Thy Side" | Gandja Monteiro | Jason Rostovsky | October 16, 2024 |
In flashbacks, William Kaplan, a teenager from Eastview, is celebrating his Bar Mitzvah when he encounters Lilia. Seeing something on his palm, Lilia writes the sigil spell to protect him, but forgets him as well. The party ends when the Hex created by Wanda begins to fall. While driving past Westview, William's parents have a car accident and he dies. At the same time, Billy Maximoff's soul enters William's body, awakening him. William has trouble adjusting after the accident due to his newfound ability to read the minds of those around him and his lack of memory of his life before. Three years later, William and his boyfriend Eddie meet with Ralph Bohner, who used to be controlled by Agatha inside Wanda's Hex. He tells them about what happened there and about Wanda's twins Billy and Tommy, making Billy realize who he is. Determined to use the Witches' Road to find Tommy, Billy goes to Agatha and undoes Wanda's spell. In the present, Agatha escapes the mud and confronts Billy. Realizing that the sigil has been destroyed, she deduces what his goal is and tells him that they must continue together, since Billy cannot control his power.

Upon entering, the two are garbed as the Wicked Witch of the West and Maleficent, respectively, and are presented with tarot cards. If they do not place the proper cards in the correct sequence, swords above them fall, though they lower on their own. The rest of the episode is told from Lilia's perspective and out of order. A Flashback reveals that Lilia has been experiencing her life out of order, explaining her memory lapses. After falling through the mud, Lilia discovers that Rio is actually Death (something Agatha knew), threatening that her time is coming. She awakens Jen and after avoiding the Salem Seven, venture through the tunnels before reuniting with Agatha and Billy (Lilia is dressed as Glinda, Jen is dressed as the Evil Queen as a hag). Lilia discovers that the trial is for her and not Billy and places the proper cards in order, saving them all. As the exit opens, Lilia chooses to stay behind as the Salem Seven come down on her. She flips one of the cards, causing the entire room to flip, impaling the Seven as well as herself on the swords.

Agatha helps Billy locate Tommy's soul, and Billy puts it in the body of a drowning boy. Billy disappears and Agatha grows a flower through a crack in the floor using a seed from her locket, completing the trial. She escapes and finds herself in her backyard, where Rio awaits her. Billy returns to aid her. Agatha attempts to give Billy up, but he convinces her to give herself up instead. Agatha kisses Rio and dies. Rio allows Billy to leave, and he returns home. With nothing to hold her back, she spends the next centuries absorbing other witches' magic by tricking them into gathering covens to open the Road then aggravating them into attacking her. In the present, Agatha, now a ghost, tells Billy that he created the Road. He despairs, blaming himself for the deaths of Lilia, Alice, and Sharon, but Agatha tells him that she was going to kill them anyway and that he did rescue Jen. Billy returns to the house and tries to banish Agatha; she reveals that she is afraid of dying because she cannot face Nicholas. Billy allows Agatha to remain as a ghost. Deciding to take her on as a guide, closing the door of the Road and recording the names of Sharon, Alice and Lilia, Billy and Agatha set out to find Tommy. |
