It was reported on March 24, 2022 that a Nova project would be in the works, for Marvel Studios. Sabir Pirzada, who was a scribe for Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel and Marvel Comics, was hired as a writer, for the upcoming project.[1] In an interview with Collider on February 19, 2023, Peyton Reed expressed interest in directing the project.[2]
During the press conference for Deadpool & Wolverine, Kevin Feige confirmed that Nova was being developed as a television series, and that it was aiming to premiere within 3-4 years.[3]
In September 2024, during an interview with ComicBook.com, Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios, expressed that Nova would not be greenlit until the studio was happy with the series bible and pilot for the show. He described the series, along with other cosmic-focused series in development, as being influenced by Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica.[4]
On December 16, 2024, Deadline reported that Ed Bernero had replaced Sabir Pirzada as the showrunner, and it would be centered on Richard Rider/Nova.[5]
