Small project grants

This scheme is for projects under $500.

2024 - 2025 Small Arts Project Grants

The 2024-2025 Small Arts Project Grants funding pool is divided into two periods:

  1. July 2024 – December 2024
  2. January 2025 – June 2025

Applications are processed within 10 working days on a first-come, first-served basis, so funds may run out before each period ends.

Please note that applications will not be processed from 20 December 2024 – 20 January 2025.

Up to $500 can be granted by the DCC for Small Project Grants to support community or arts projects. Projects must contribute to achieving Community Outcomes set out within Dunedin’s Social Wellbeing and Ara Toi (Arts and Culture) Strategies:

  • Connected people: making people feel connected and involved in community and city affairs
  • Vibrant and cohesive communities: building better communities both at a local/geographic level and communities of interest
  • Healthy and safe people: promoting good health and ensuring people feel safe, and are safe
  • Reasonable standard of living: promoting a good work/life balance and full employment
  • Affordable and healthy homes: people are living in warm and healthy homes and affordable housing options are available to all
  • Identity pride: embedding creativity in city decision-making
  • Access and inclusion: investing in access to arts and culture and enabling self-expression
  • Creative economy: leveraging the economic growth of the arts and culture sector
  • Inspired connections: utilising existing networks and fostering new connections to drive creativity

The DCC wishes to support a wide range of projects through its Small Project Grants and will take into consideration both the purpose and locations of projects when making decisions.

Organisations must provide a 50% investment toward the total cost of the project. This can be volunteer hours (calculated at the Living Wage), donated goods or any funds you have to contribute. The remaining 50% can be matched by a grant of up to $500.

Organisations must not act as funding bodies and preference is given to incorporated societies or trusts, however, informal organisations may apply. Examples of groups that can apply are self-help/support, neighbourhood, ethnic, environmental, arts and culture, disability, social service, youth or senior citizen groups.

Funds must be for a project that responds to an identified community need. One-off events are not eligible for funding. Applications for events should be made to the Community Events, Major Community or Premier Events Funds. Information on these grants can be found under our Funding and Grants webpages.

There is no closing date as processing is within 10 working days of receiving the application.

Note however, you can only apply to either the main DCC Community Grants Scheme or DCC Community Grants Small Project Scheme in any one year. Contact us on 03 477 4000 or email dcc@dcc.govt.nz
