Music for the battle with Tropic Woods in Kirby and the Forgotten Land

 This box: view  talk  edit
Fresh ocean air and warm sunlight helped Tropic Woods grow big and strong. Its giant coconuts will cause big explosions after they drop. It has nonexploding coconuts too, and they're supposed to be delicious! Few have ever tasted them...but many have tried.
— Figure description from Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Tropic Woods, titled Unfriendly Fronds, is a boss in the Kirby series, making its debut in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It is a tropical spin-off of the Whispy Woods family, resembling both a palm tree and a pineapple with its bulbous trunk and dense foliage. It also has a small soul patch beard made of grass-like fibers under its mouth. Some of its abilities include using its roots to entrap Kirby and dropping a mesh fence in front of its face for protection.

Tropic Woods appears as the boss of Everbay Coast, being fought in the stage The Tropical Terror. As might be expected for a plant, and as confirmed by Shinya Kumazaki in the developer interview for Kirby and the Forgotten Land in the June 2022 issue of Nintendo Dream Magazine, Tropic Woods is not a member of the Beast Pack, "...although it is acquainted with [them]..."[1] As such, unlike other bosses, Tropic Woods is the only end-of-level boss to not be refought in the Redgar Forbidden Lands.

Tropic Woods is also faced in the Colosseum's Meta Knight Cup and The Ultimate Cup. It has a stronger variant in the isolated isles of Forgo Dreams and The Ultimate Cup Z called Phantom Tropic Woods.

Attacks[edit]

Being a relative of Whispy Woods, Tropic Woods is a largely stationary boss (being only able to swivel its face towards its target), and as such, its attacks mainly consist of throwing out projectiles and reaching through the ground with its roots. Much like Whispy Woods, Tropic Woods sheds a single tear after it is defeated.

Tropic Woods has 1,350 HP in The Tropical Terror and 945 HP at the Colosseum. It transitions to the second phase once its HP is 50% or less and takes 0.8× damage during the entire second phase. It also takes 0.2× damage when roaring at the start of the battle and during the transition to phase 2.[2] When Tropic Woods roars after the transition to the second phase of the battle, Kirby will be blown back to the opposite side of the battlefield. This deals no damage to Kirby.

The following are all of Tropic Woods' attacks (attack names are from the Kirby and the Forgotten Land Perfect Support Guide).

Tropic Woods' attacks in Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Attack Description Notes
トロピカルナッツ落とし
Tropical Nut Drop
Tropic Woods drops large coconut boulders down from its canopy which impact the sand and then explode after a moment, leaving a Dropped Star behind. The coconuts can be inhaled with enough time.
空気弾
Air Bullet
Tropic Woods breathes in and spits out an Air Bullet at its target, traveling forward a moderate distance before leaving a Dropped Star behind. The air bullets can destroy the dropped coconuts.
Second phase only
トロピカルブレス
Tropical Breath
Tropic Woods breathes in and lets out a whole wave of Air Bullets in quick succession along a long arc. Tropic Woods always begins the second phase with this attack.
フェンスウォール
Fence Wall
Tropic Woods brings up a large metal fence to guard part of its trunk, causing two Dropped Stars to appear on the sides when it pops up and knocking close attackers away. Attacks toward the fence will be deflected. The fence drops down after a while, typically being redeployed in a new position soon thereafter. If positioned right, Kirby can stand on or dodge over the fence.
南国スクスク大成長
Tropical Growing Great Growth
Tropic Woods sends out two large snaking roots that tunnel through the earth and fence Kirby in, creating Dropped Stars whenever they pierce the ground. These can be stood on after they stop or destroyed by attacking them to satisfy a mission objective in the main boss stage. If not destroyed, they will eventually be withdrawn.
