VS. Dangerous Beast

"VS. Dangerous Beast" is the main boss battle theme of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It was composed by Hirokazu Ando.

Composition[edit]

"VS. Dangerous Beast" is a ferocious theme in the key of G minor, a fast, 6/8 time signature and in 150 BPM. It starts off with low brass D notes, rising in an augmented triad chord progression with the strings and woodwinds joining in as the main melody starts. The trumpets play intervals of major and minor seventh chords that make up the beginning of the song. The clarinet rises up and down in major sixth chords while the brass instruments back up. The melody continues with a tonal progression by the strings between D# and F as the marimba and woodwind carry out glissando 8th notes. The melody is again performed by the trumpets and the clarinet again in rising major sixths. Following afterwards, the percussion intensifies as the progressions repeat themselves. The melody then hits a rising point as the trumpets create a major ninth descending sequence for the song to transpose to G-sharp minor. Pizzicato strings, a glockenspiel and intense percussion continue the melody. As the strings develop major sixths in G minor, they repeat the phrase descending to F, then back to G-sharp. Not long after that, more strings join in to settle the climax of the piece. A short drum solo takes place with a faint harp at the end. As the song finally transitions back to its original key, the trumpet and clarinet do one more recital of the melody's first section as the track reaches its loop point.

In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, "VS. Dangerous Beast" plays during the battles against Gorimondo, Tropic Woods, Clawroline and Sillydillo. It can be found as track 15 at Waddle Live! Corner Stage.

Additiobally, elements of "VS. Dangerous Beast" serve as leitmotifs of the Beast Pack and related events alongside "Plundering Beast Battle":

• "Kirby and the Mysterious Vortex" - The theme of the opening cutscene. The intro phrase of "VS. Dangerous Beast" plays when the mysterious vortex is shown.
• "Mysterious Mouthful Mode" - The theme of the cutscene in which Kirby first discovers Mouthful Mode. Both motifs from "VS. Dangerous Beast" are mashed together with "Plundering Beast Battle" when the Awoofies attack Kirby.
• "The Smell of a Scary Beast", "An Unexpected Beast King" and "The One Who Controls the World" - Themes for pre-boss areas. It feafures slowed down versions of both motifs of "VS. Dangerous Beast", in reversed order.
• "Redgar Forbidden Lands" - The map theme of Redgar Forbidden Lands. The intro phrase of the theme plays quickly in the middle of the track, and the main melody of "VS. Dangerous Beast" plays at the loop point.
• "The Beast Pack's Final Stand" - Theme of the stage of the same name, that is primarily an arrangement of "Welcome to the New World!", incorporating "VS. Dangerous Beast" at various points in the track (primarily the intro motif in the first half, and the main motif in a dedicated later section).
• "The King's Turn to Shine" - Cutscene theme following the battle against Forgo Dedede. The inclusion of "VS. Dangerous Beast" is derived from "The Beast Pack's Final Stand".
• "Sudden Metamorphosis" - Cutscene theme before the battle with Fecto Forgo. Both elements of "VS. Dangerous Beastt" plays briefly when the Beast Pack members show up.
• "VS. Psychic Power Given Form" - Counterpart theme of "Isolated Isles: Forgo Dreams" and theme for the said location. Includes the intro section of "VS. Dangerous Beast" near the end.
