Below are the Gifts available to the Grondr.

These Gifts were also available to the Garou, provided they were taught by an Grondr ancestor spirit, in the Revised sourcebook: Past Lives. Also, the Garou could not gain access to Level Four to Five Gifts and they were not even detailed in the book due to that.

List of Gifts[]

Revised Edition Gifts[]

Level 1[]

  • Root: In order to properly perform their jobs, the Grondr had to be able to sniff out sources of potential corruption below the ground's surface. This Gift allows the user to scent out buried objects that are somehow connected to corruption, disease or rot - thus, a werewolf with this Gift could sniff out buried battels of toxic waste (which corrupt the Earth) or a rotting corpse. This Gift can even detect Hives or deep-burrowing Wyrm-creatures far beneath the earth's surface, if the user's intuition is sharp enough.[1]
  • Taint-Eating: Like the Apis, the Grondr had a tradition of ritually devouring their fallen foes. However, these macabre feasts had a different purpose entirely for the Grondr. By devouring the bodies of Wyrm-beasts and fomori, the Grondr removed them from Gaia's face, ritually eating and digesting their taints and toxins. In the modern age of O'Tolley's and chemically enhanced fomori, this Gift can prove even more useful than it did in ancient times.[2]

Level 2[]

  • Furrow: This Gift parlayed the Grondr's natural animal talent for overturning earth into a potent supernatural ability. By digging one tusk in the ground, the Grondr could open a long furrow or ditch as easily as uprooting a weed. Garou who learn this Gift use their claws to create the initial cut in the earth's skin that grows into the larger furrow. This Gift was often used to create temporary fortifications, temporarily divert the flow of steams to wash an area clean, or to dig graves for fallen warriors.[3]
  • Thunderous Charge: The Grondr's fighting style centered on powerful charges meant to overbear their opponents, followed by repeated slashes with their long, razor-sharp tusks. This Gift added supernatural hitting power to a charge, allowing the Grondr to knock even a giant to the ground.[4]

Level 3[]

  • Cleansing Tusks: Although not chosen to be Gaia's warriors, the Grondr were still bound by duty to oppose those who tainted their lands. This Gift was one of their battle-magics, focusing their skills at purification into a martial application. When this Gift is in effect, the teeth of the user become purest white, so bright they almost shine with inner light. Wyrm-taint boils away at the touch of the Cleansing Tusks, much to the detriment of the fundamentally tainted.[5]
  • Uproot: The Grondr knew that the tallest tree could be toppled by striking at the root. This Gift conveys the ability to cause considerable damage to a tree or structure if the user strikes at the foundation. The Grondr often used this Gift to topple diseased trees, but were not averse to using it against human dwellings as well if the need arose.[6]

20th Anniversary Edition Gifts[]

Level 1[]

  • Brother's Scent: As the Children of Gaia Gift.[7]
  • Falling Touch: As the Ahroun Gift.[8]
  • Master of Fire: As the homid Gift.[9]
  • Resist Pain: As the Philodox Gift.[10]
  • Root: The Grondr may scent out buried objects tainted with the Wyrm's corruption, such as corrupted burial grounds, the roots of Wyrm-tainted plants, barrels of toxic waster, or even Black Spiral Hives.[11]
  • Scent of Sight: As the lupus Gift.[12]
  • Sense Wyrm: As the metis Gift.[13]
  • Spirit Speech: As the Theurge Gift.[14]
  • Taint Eating: By devouring the bodies of Wyrm beasts, fomori, and other sources of taint, the Grondr removes them from Gaia's face, safely digesting their toxins and corruption.[15]

Level 2[]

  • Breath of the Wyld: As the Black Fury Gift.[16]
  • Furrow: By digging one tusk into the ground, the Grondr can open a long furrow or ditch as easily as uprooting a weed.[17]
  • Sense Balance: As the Philodox Gift.[18]
  • Staredown: As the homid Gift.[19]
  • Thunderous Charge: This Gift adds supernatural striking force to a charge, allowing the Grondr to knock even a giant to the ground.[20]
  • Tusks of Judgment: As the Philodox Gift: Fangs of Judgment.[21]

Level 3[]

  • Cleansing Tusks: When this Gift is in effect, the teeth of the Grondr become purest white, so bright they almost shine with inner light. Wyrm-taint boils away at the touch of the Cleansing Tusks.[22]
  • Desperate Strength: As the Bone Gnawer Gift.[23]
  • Odious Aroma: As the Bone Gnawer Gift.[24]
  • Sense the Unnatural: As the lupus Gift.[25]
  • Uproot: The Grondr may easily uproot diseased trees (or human dwellings...) by striking at their foundations.[26]

Level 4[]

  • Beast Life: As the lupus Gift.[27]
  • Stoking Fury's Furnace: As the Ahroun Gift.[28]
  • Taint Evaporation: Pointing to a Bane or other Wyrm-tainted spirit, the Grondr speaks an ancient word of cleansing. The Wyrm-spirit's Essence loses coherence, easily dissipating into the air afterwards.[29]
  • Touch of Restoration: Focusing her Gnosis into a plant or seed, the Grondr brings it to full growth with astonishing speed.[30]

Level 5[]

  • The Living Wood: As the Children of Gaia Gift.[31]
  • Manifesting the Land's Wounds: Marking the surrounding area with her tusks, the Grondr roots out the land's corruption, causing it to manifest as a Bane. Before the War of Rage, this Gift was used in the presence of waiting Garou packs, who tore the manifested spirit to shreds. During the War it was held up as evidence of Grondr corruption.[32]
  • Wyld Warp: As the Black Fury Gift.[33]
