~ Sonic to Tails as he transforms into the Kaiju.
No... No pain now...
~ Sonic, after the curse is lifted.

The Kaiju, in it's host, Sonic the Hedgehog, is a major antagonist in the There's Something About... series, serving as one of the two main antagonists (alongside Amy Rose) of the second chapter, There's Something About Knuckles. It is an eldritch being that has been terrorizing the city for years, resulting in the deaths of many civilians. It is then later revealed by Tails that The Kaiju is in truth, Sonic, heavily mutated by Chaos Energy as a result of a trap set by Baron Robotnik, the previous host of the Kaiju.

Personality[]

The Kaiju is a mindless abomination who is focused on it’s one goal: Destruction. It is also an embodiment of chaos and destruction, and an apex predator that sometimes eats their victims.

Appearance[]

The Kaiju’s appearance is a giant eldritch being, with very subtle design elements from Sonic to make it appear as a heavily distorted version of the character. As it gets stronger, it starts to look more and more like Sonic. This is further shown in Part 6 of TSAK, in which during the scene where the Kaiju starts emerging from the lava and transforms into its final form, the formation of the Chaos Emeralds closely resemble Sonic’s signature spikes.

Biography[]

Parts 4 and 5[]

Sonic was the ruler of a big city, who always cared about the well-being of his teammates and the citizens. When Eggman (as the Kaiju) terrorized the town, the city constructed a giant wall around to protect themselves, with Sonic and his allies becoming defenders of the city, using giant robots to fend off against Eggman. One night, Sonic decides to go to Eggman’s base to find and slay the Monster. However, he discovers that Baron is in fact the monster, using the chaos emerald powers to become the Kaiju. Sonic takes pity on Eggman’s apparent sympathy he pushes and decides to try and cure him, injecting him with a serum to reverse the effects. But it is revealed that it is a trap, and that it is actually supposed to transfer the Chaos Emeralds, and thus the emerald gets transferred into Sonic, who would later painfully transform into the Kaiju as Tails tried to help, to no avail.

Part 1[]

Some time later, The Kaiju possessing Sonic would return to the city once again, crushing Jet the Hawk beneath his tentacle like hand. After its presence was brought to attention, the city's guards tried taking it down, but despite their best efforts, the Kaiju stood still. Soon, it would try to take them all out with its bladed arm, only for it to then be blocked by Silver in Knuckles's mech. Soon, other mechs would arrive and help fight the Kaiju, but soon, the Kaiju would gain advantage over them and take them down. The Kaiju would slowly begin to approach the soldiers, intending on killing them.

Before the Kaiju could kill them, however, it would be punched in the face by Knuckles inside of Sonic's mech. Infuriated, the monster would reach out for Knuckles using its tentacle like fingers, only for Knuckles to slice them all off. Knuckles and Amy would immediately get up and hit it once again, breaking one of its horns and dislocating its jaw. After nearly being taken down by Knuckles and his crew, the Kaiju would knock them back into the city's wall and begin to retreat, likely preparing for another attack at some point in the future.

Part 2[]

Shortly after, the Kaiju would return to the city once again, this time more powerful than ever before. Before Knuckles went out to fight the monster, Tails would point out to him that the Kaiju looked rather similar to Sonic and revealing that he had become a part of it, and that they needed to kill him.

Part 3[]

The city threw everything it had at the Kaiju, but it did nothing. The Kaiju became too strong for mere attacks to work. Then, Big tired to blast him with his cannon balls, but he just chewed through them with his teeth, then smashed Big in half. The Kaiju was later seriously wounded, and retreated.

Part 6[]

After Tails reveals to the crew what really happened to Sonic, he would later also explain that the Kaiju is a manifestation of chaos energy, and that in order to stop the curse, they would have to kill the beast once and for all, but that it’s also too late to free Sonic from the curse as him and the Kaiju are too closely linked in its current state.

Knuckles and the rest of the crew would go to Baron Robotnik’s old base in hopes of defeating the Kaiju, and freeing Sonic from the curse, only to discover it only grows stronger after every battle. Just as their efforts begin to prove to be futile, Tails’ mech would cause the ground below the Kaiju to start cracking and eventually break, sending the monster down to a supposed firey demise by lava, and in turn taking Sonic with it, causing Knuckles to begin breaking down. The lava would prove to be fruitless however, as the curse would only adapt to the elements. The crew watched in horror as the Kaiju would evolve into a new, even more powerful form that more closely resembles Sonic, with the Chaos Emerald turning from a red one to a blue one. Almost all hope they had for saving their former friend and leader is now gone beyond this point, as Knuckles would comment on how pissed the kaiju looked.

Part 7[]

The crew would continue to throw everything it had at the Kaiju’s new form, as it continued to adapt to everything they threw at them. It also managed to gain a new power in the process - laser eyes, which it would nearly blast the entire crew with. Big managed to shoot a spear into it, causing one of its emerald eyes to shoot out, but not before Tails would get ahold of it.

Ultimately though, The Kaiju’s bond with Sonic would become too much to handle, as it would pour out lava from its chest in retaliation. While Tails and Cream would manage to get out of the way in time, it ultimately kills Big. Amy, hoping that Sonic is still somewhere inside the Kaiju, begs for him to fight the curse, and it stops attacking for a moment, which implies that a part of Sonic is still conscious and trying to fight it.

Knuckles, now having been driven completely insane and not wanting to lose another friend, reaches for the blue emerald, with the intent on being the Kaiju’s next host to free his friend once and for all.

Parts 8 and 9[]

Amy tries to communicate with the Kaiju, as she believes a part of Sonic is still inside the Kaiju. Sonic would awaken inside the emerald once again, but Knuckles would take one of the emeralds and shove it into his mech, causing him to transform into a Kaiju-mech hybrid. Sonic and Knuckles then battle it out, with Knuckles intending to kill Sonic. Knuckles would then rip out the other emerald from Sonic's eye, mortally wounding the Sonic Kaiju and himself in the process. Amy gets a reading from the Sonic Kaiju, revealing that Sonic is alive. The crew would run to check on him, but after the curse was lifted from Sonic, he came out appearing extremely emaciated and aged up from the Kaiju’s energy. The crew’s reunion with Sonic is short lived, as despite Tails’ warnings to not let up, Knuckles would retreat and heal quickly, which led to him killing his friends and crew (including Sonic), and eventually the whole city. Knuckles has two emeralds on his eye since he rip out the other emerald from Sonic’s eye. Amy, from a different dimension, came out from Knuckles’ ear. She used a voice mod to voice as Knuckles, and affect his mind, which led him to become a Kaiju. She used it when her size is very small.

Trivia[]

  • Sonic’s transformation sequence was likely influenced by Tetsuo’s mutation from the 1988 film Akira, and Palmer’s transformation in the 1982 film The Thing.
  • Some of Sonic’s lines are subtle callbacks to the previous chapter, There’s Something About Amy.
