Guardian Units of Nations, commonly known as G.U.N., are the main antagonists of the Sonic the Hedgehog fanfiction There's a Fine Line by KyoSo, taking place in an alternate timeline deviated from the aftermath of Sonic Adventure 2. Once just a military organization, they grow in influence to the point where they are close to controlling the world, only opposed by the organization called Minutemen, and blackmail Sonic and Tails into doing their dirty job for them.

After the events of Sonic Adventure 2, Guardian Units of Nations had Eggman give up his technology to them in exchange for letting him avoid standing trial for the deaths his destruction of half the moon caused, and covered his disappearance up by claiming he was eliminated when in reality he just went into hiding. Meanwhile, G.U.N. increased in influence, now assisting multiple countries. An organization called the Minutemen was formed by individuals who feared that the military would eventually take full control of the planet, and G.U.N. engaged in a war with them. They also tried to get Sonic to pay for the property damage he caused while escaping them.
There's a Fine Line[]
Ultimately, Tails went along with G.U.N.'s plan of having Sonic work for them and sold his best friend out to them, hoping that this would end his troubles. The military captured Sonic, but to ensure that he would cooperate, Tower took Tails hostage, leaving him with no choice. The two were equipped with tracking devices that recorded everything they said and could be used to kill them for insubordination. The military took the two to the Mystic Ruins and had Sonic descend underground to the source of liquid chaos, the Fountain, to collect samples of its product. Near the Fountain, the hedgehog was attacked by a mutated Chao. When G.U.N. extracted him, the hedgehog was examined, but no signs of contamination from contact with the Chao were detected, though, as Sonic found out later, he didn't get out of the fight unscathed.
Later, Sonic and Tails were deployed to steal the Master Emerald. While Tails managed to take the emerald without Knuckles noticing, he went off-course, intending to bait G.U.N. into killing him and shattering the artifact in the process. While the soldier taking part in the mission attempted to do exactly that, Tails didn't die, but was abducted by the Minutemen.
Believing his best friend to be dead, Sonic refused to take up the next mission, which involved eliminaing a Minutemen member, but Rouge managed to pressure him into complying. When the two were on their way to the objective, Rouge suddenly revealed that she was a double agent for the Minutemen, removed Sonic's tracking collar and handed him a briefcase which she said possessed data that should be given to the rebels. Sonic eventually ended up in a Minutemen facility, but when the rebels unlocked the briefcase, it turned out to have been a ruse, as it was actually a bomb that killed three members of the organization. G.U.N. sent drones to wipe out the facility and any survivors, but Sonic and the rebels' commander Nova managed to survive and escape with help from Knuckles and Eggman. With the fanfic left unfinished, G.U.N.'s later activities and fate are unknown.

- G.U.N.'s portrayal in the fanfic is largely based on their depiction in Sonic Adventure 2, where they didn't exhibit any positive qualities they would gain in later games and adaptations, and were largely responsible for the game's events with their raid on the ARK and murder of Maria Robotnik 50 years prior.
