Rohan Kishibe is a major character in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise.
Rohan is a successful mangaka, conducting research for his latest manga. He is also a Stand User who wields Heaven's Door, which allows Rohan to transform others into books to gather information about them to read as inspiration for his manga. He was originally an enemy of Josuke Higashikata, but later became a major ally to find and take down Yoshikage Kira. Though Rohan considers Josuke to be a hated rival to the end, he greatly respects Koichi and based many aspects of his manga's protagonist Pink Dark Boy on Koichi.
In Japanese, he was voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven, with Takahiro Sakurai voicing him in the anime and all subsequent appearances. In English, he was voiced by Vic Mignogna (who also voiced Broly and Malzahar) in the anime and Landon McDonald in Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan. In live-action, he was portrayed by Issey Takahashi in the TV series adaptation of Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan and Rohan au Louvre, with Kento Nagao playing him as a teenager in the latter.
Biography[]
Past[]
Rohan was often babysat by Reimi Sugimoto when he was a child. However, on the night of August 13, 1983, she was attacked in her home by Yoshikage Kira. She threw Rohan out the window to save him, before she was stabbed in the back and killed by Kira. Due to trauma, Rohan forgot about this brush with death.
When Rohan was seventeen, he met Nanase Fujikura. Nanase became interested in his drawings and wished to read his work when it was complete, but she later, for some strange reason, became so deeply upset about her divorce that she ran off in tears, and he never saw her again.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable[]
Rohan is first seen when Koichi Hirose and Toshikazu Hazamada find out that he's living in their town and head over for an autograph. Rohan invites them inside and shows them his studio. He explains to them his obsession with making his manga as real as possible, and kills and dissects a spider in front of them to show how he studies the world around him. Hazamada reacts by vomiting, prompting Rohan to want to sketch his visceral reaction, however when Hazamada forces another vomit response Rohan calls it fake and loses interest. He then finds an excuse to leave the room.
With Rohan out of the room, Hazamada spots the latest draft of Rohan's manga and convinces Koichi to take a look at it with him. However, this turns out to be a trap. As soon as the two boys look at the manga, Heaven's Door activates. Their skin peels back and turns into paper as they become living books containing a record of their entire lives. Rohan declares that this was his intention all along, as it is the best way to get information to make his manga more real. Koichi tries to fight back using his stand, Echoes, but Rohan writes into the pages that he can not do anything that would bring Rohan harm, and so he is unable to fight back. Reading their life stories, he finds Hazamada disgusting and says that there's nothing in him that's worth using. However, he becomes enamored with Koichi and decides to retool his Pink Dark Boy character to be much more like Koichi. Koichi asks why Rohan would go to such lengths when he's already rich and famous, causing Rohan to become outraged and insist that he only cares about people reading his work and is paranoid that if his work isn't perfect people will stop reading it. He then tears out several pages from Koichi and then sends the two boys away after writing into their pages that they won't remember anything he did.
The next day, Koichi is freaked out at having suddenly lost an unhealthy amount of weight overnight, coupled with a sudden loss of many of his older memories. However, he can't think of any explanation and has to go to school so he decides to ignore it for the time being. While on his way to school, he ends up subconsciously heading to Rohan's house instead. Heading inside, Koichi finds Rohan hard at work, having finished multiple full manga pages in a single night in a surge of inspiration. Half-mad, Rohan demands that he needs even more, and turns Koichi into a book again to take more pages from him. Koichi escapes and runs outside where he runs into Josuke and Okuyasu, but the second he leaves Rohan's house he turns back to normal and forgets everything that just happened. He sends his friends on their way and goes back inside. The second he goes back in, he remembers again, but realizes he won't be able to do anything about it because of Heaven's Door.
Fortunately, Okuyasu and Josuke had noticed a bit of blood on Koichi where he'd cut himself during his panicked escape from the house. Finding it strange, they went in to investigate and found Rohan in the process of ripping more pages out of Koichi. Okuyasu confronts Rohan, but is shown the manuscript and affected by Heaven's Door, turning him into a book as well. Rohan realizes that Josuke is waiting outside the door to his studio and is worried that Josuke will leave to go collect some of their other friends. To prevent this, he writes it into Okuyasu's pages that Okuyasu will burn himself to death if Josuke tries to leave the house. Okuyasu laughs and says this is ridiculous, but finds his hand moving on its own to pull out a lighter and burn him.
Faced with no other choice, Josuke goes to confront Rohan. He attempts to fight with his eyes closed so that he can't catch a glimpse of the manga. Rohan tries to Josuke to open his eyes by throwing thumbtacks at his face, but to no avail. Rohan remembers reading in Koichi's pages that Josuke becomes enraged if anyone insults his hair, and so fires off a string of deeply personal insults about his hairstyle. This gets Josuke to open his eyes at last. Rohan quickly holds up his manga in front of Josuke's face, declaring "I win."
However, Rohan is immediately met by Josuke's fist tearing through the paper and slamming into his face. It turns out that Rohan's insults were so hurtful to Josuke that they sent him into a literally blind rage. He couldn't see Rohan's manga, and therefore couldn't be affected by Heaven's Door. Josuke proceeded to tear up the studio, looking for Rohan. Meanwhile, Koichi related the story of how a stranger with that haircut had saved Josuke's life when he was a child, and that Josuke had taken the haircut in honor of that stranger. Rohan is so moved by the story that he begins writing it down so that he can use it in his own manga later. Koichi and Okuyasu believe that Rohan is trying to attack them again. Rohan explains that he's not, but his speaking allows Josuke to find him. Josuke beats Rohan severely, landing him in the hospital.
After leaving the hospital, Rohan begins writing Pink Dark Boy again. Though the pages he wrote using Koichi as an inspiration were all destroyed by Josuke, he decides to go through with retooling the protagonist to be more like Koichi anyway, as Rohan has gained a deep respect for him. On the other hand, Rohan develops an intense distaste for Josuke both due to his injuries and Josuke failing to appreciate his art.
After this, Rohan firmly becomes a hero.
The Book: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 4th Another Day[]

Powers And Abilities[]
“ | I'll be reading through your lives and experiences to get at that "reality" and use it for my work. | „ |

Heaven's Door is a weak close-range Stand unsuited for direct combat, but has several powerful abilities. When activated, the stand transforms its target into a humanoid book. While in book form, the target has limited movement and can't fight. Rohan can read the book's writing to gain insight into the person's life and memories. As an inquisitive mangaka, he uses this to gain knowledge and inspiration for his work without the hassle of an interview. All information gained in this way is guaranteed to be 100% truthful and accurate, however it is limited by the person's own perception and can not tell Rohan anything the person does not know themselves; for example, Heaven's Door was not able to warn Rohan about Masazo Kinoto's stand Cheap Trick, because the man didn't know that he was a stand-user. Also, while Heaven's Door does work on ghosts like Reimi Sugimoto, it can only give information on who they were when they were alive, having no information on their afterlife or even that they are dead.
In addition to reading, Rohan can also write into a person's soul book. Anything written into a person's soul book will happen to that person, no matter what. He can use this to erase memories or control their actions, even to the point of making them kill themselves. Rohan's most common tactic is to immediately turn anyone he doesn't trust into a book and write "I can not attack Rohan Kishibe" into them. Though he can rewrite a person's personality using this power as well, Rohan refuses to do so for moral reasons. Even during his time as a villain, he refuses to use his power in that way, saying that even using it to remove a person's negative traits would result in them no longer being genuinely themselves and would be wrong.
The only downside of Heaven's Door is that it can only affect people who can see it (even if they can't normally see stands); blind people are immune, as shown when Rohan attempts to use it on Josuke when the latter was blinded by rage. Even afterward, Rohan says that Josuke is immune to the effects due to being a "hater".
When Rohan is first introduced, his Heaven's Door manifests through his drawings, affecting anyone who looks at his own hand-drawn manga pages. After his initial arc, Rohan gains the ability to manifest Heaven's Door directly, literally drawing it into existence either with his pen or his finger. Heaven's Door takes the appearance of the main character of Rohan's manga, Pink Dark Boy.
