Duke, Lulu, and Rockman, together known as the Dino Riders, are the main antagonists of the Super Mario World cartoon episode "Born to Ride". They are a gang of reptilian bikers.
Duke was voiced by Michael Stark who also voiced Kookie von Koopa, Lulu was voiced by Paulina Gillis who also voiced Kootie Pie Koopa, and Rockman was voiced by Dan Hennessey who also voiced Bully Koopa.
Appearance[]
Duke is a small dinosaur resembling a Rex, only with green skin, an orange horn, and an orange chest. He wears a grey jacket and a brown helmet.
Lulu is the only female of the group and resembles a tall lime green lizard with red lipstick. She wears an orange jacket and a green helmet.
Rockman is the largest of the group and resembles a Rex, only with dark green skin and a yellow horn. He also has red eyes. He wears a blue jacket and a blue helmet.
Biography[]
After Yoshi runs away from home following his scolding from Mario for eating the bamboo used as piping for the sink, the Dino Riders come across the young dinosaur after they see him swallow a giant Caterpillar. Yoshi admits his interest in joining the gang so he could ride a motorcycle, although Mario would likely not approve. Noticing that he knows Mario and Luigi, the leader Duke gladly allows Yoshi to join them. In actuality, they gangsters plot on using Yoshi so they could capture the Mario Bros. and hand them over to King Koopa.
The Dino Riders manipulate Yoshi into committing bad deeds as a way to "test" him before he could join the gang. They give Yoshi a paint bottle and task him in vandalizing a dome-home. Yoshi instead paints a smiley face, to which they call him a wimp. Rex then gives Yoshi a Bob-omb to throw. Yoshi hesitates, prompting Lulu to force him into throwing it into an open window, revealing it to be a Smelly Bob-Omb that drenches the dome-home in a nasty odor. Despite not showing anything remotely gangster-worthy, the Dino Riders welcome Yoshi to the gang and give him his own helmet and jacket. Duke tasks Yoshi with bringing Mario and Luigi to the Tar Pit Milk Bar so they would teach them a lesson for disrespecting Yoshi.
With his new biker attire, Yoshi returns to the Mario Bros. where he tells them about the "social group" he met. Princess Toadstool agrees to a meeting between Mario, Luigi, and the Dino Riders as a way to straighten everything out. Once they reach the bar, Duke tells Yoshi to wait outside. While waiting, a curious Yoshi looks in the window to discover that the Dino Riders were holding the two hostage, gloating about how King Koopa would pay them well for their capture. Horrified that the gang was deceiving him all along, Yoshi rushes out to get help from Toadstool.
As the gang stop for a break of Goomba Quiche in Lava Land, Yoshi arrives and eats the ropes bounding the Mario Bros., then the Goomba Quiche when the gang throws them at him. Yoshi and Toadstool make their escape on Yoshi's motorcycle while Mario and Luigi steal Lulu's, with the gangsters in pursuit. Mario grabs a Fire Flower and blasts it at Rockman's motorcycle, causing him to fall into a pit of lava. Yoshi tricks Duke into crashing into a cactus, sending him and Lulu smashing into a wall and they are covered in coins. Once the group manage to escape down a Warp Tube, the Dino Riders look on in dismay and lament the loss of their reward.
