Rock Drum (ãƒãƒƒã‚¯ãƒ‰ãƒ©ãƒ Rokkudoramu) are giant golem-like crustacean beasts with an exoskeleton made of stone marble.
Anatomy[]
It is a gigantic bipedal creature with a pale white and rocky exoskeleton shell covering the entirety of its body. It has a very masculine humanoid appearance, giving it a resemblance to a golem. Its body seems quite muscular with its outer shell forming what appears to be large pectorals and abs on its torso. It has a round neck-less head with a large humanoid nose, angry-looking black eyes with red pupils and a large mouth which appears to lack teeth. It also has massive forearms and shoulders, and somewhat short legs. Its rocky outer shells is quite hard and thick but its insides appear to be fleshy and soft which can be prepared into a fine meat dish.
Composition[]
According to Sunny, its body has a unique flexibility despite its sturdy outer shell, however this is mostly due to a high fat content in its body. Its rocky outer shell is actually a high-quality marble made up of calcium carbonate and has a super-high protein content which makes it incredibly durable and beautiful when refined. This rare and valuable marble when refined is called Perfect Beauty Marble.[1][2]
Behavior[]
They are noted for being very territorial and brutish, and will ferociously crush their prey without mercy, they will also kill and demolish anything that stands in the way of their food. They are very gluttonous and as such they are not picky about what they eat. They normally live near beaches, but as their demand for food increases, they advance inland where they will travel in groups and will fight together to defeat their prey, however they are not very coordinated in their attacks.[1]
Powers and Abilities[]
Due to their gigantic size, Rock Drums are very strong and durable, and can take quite a few strong hits due to their marble shells. They can also break off parts of their marble shells and use them as projectiles to throw at their targets from afar. Rock Drums are quite persistent in battle and can shrug off most pain so long as they can still stand and fight, however their persistence and foolhardiness will cause them to attack opponents even stronger than them without much thought.
Uses[]

As Food[]
The meat of the Rock Drum is edible and is considered a high-quality delicacy, but possesses a rather high fat content.[1] In the anime, it is mentioned that Rock Drum meat is an excellent high-class snack that is great when eaten with alcohol.[2]
History[]
Regal Mammoth Arc[]
When the Toriko, Sunny, Komatsu, Rin, and Terry Cloth set out to the Regal Plateau to capture the Regal Mammoth, they are confronted by a group of these giant brutes in Black Grass.[3] Sunny quickly grows enthusiastic when Toriko informs him that their shells could be made into Perfect Beauty Marble, which could be used to make all sorts of divine furniture.[1] Most prove no match for Sunny's Spatula, Hair Net, and Hair Lock techniques.[4] The group is surprise attacked by a hiding Rock Drum, which quickly sends them flying with a powerful kick, separating the group.[5][2]
Sometime later, Starjun in his GT Robo comes across the Rock Drums, which immediately try to attack him. As quickly as the fight begins, it ends with nearly the entire Rock Drum population of Black Grass being slaughtered by the powerful Gourmet Corp. Sous Chef.[6][7]
Billion Bird Arc[]
When the Four Heavenly Kings are searching for the final ingredient in Ichiryu's Full Course Menu at the 1st Biotope, Toriko uses his heightened sense of smell to trace all the beings that were ever present within the 1st Biotope in order to find Ichiryu's old scent and follow it to the ingredient's location. Among the countless scents he picks up, he also detects the scent of a Rock Drum which had passed by recently. It is unknown if Rock Drums survived the onslaught of the Meteor Spice that destroyed most of the Human World's resources, as it is never stated when it left its scent in that area.
Anime and Manga Differences[]
- When the Rock Drums first appeared in the anime, Tina was the one who explained what they are. In the manga it was Sunny who gave the explanation.
- When the Rock Drums appeared they began crushing and eating all the animals in sight. In the anime this scene was removed and all the animals simply run off.
- When Sunny attacked a Rock Drum with his Spatula, the Rock Drum bled a stream of blood from its nose. In the anime, all instances of blood were removed.
- In the manga, Toriko was the one who told Sunny about the Rock Drum shell being Perfect Beauty Marble while holding the stone. In the anime Sunny is the one who begins talking about the marble when Toriko throws him a piece.
