"Our failure on Xais proved once and for all that servants of the light should never lurk in the shadows. We must be better than our enemies."
―Avar Kriss[5]

A skirmish took place between the Jedi Order and the group of marauders known as the Nihil on the planet Xais[3] in 231 BBY.[4] It was sparked when the Jedi of Starlight Beacon went against the wishes of the Jedi Council and performed an infiltration of the Nihil Tempest by having Jedi Knights Keeve Trennis and Terec go undercover within the organization.[6] However the Jedi were discovered on the planet Xais after their former ally the captured Myarga Anjiliac Atirue revealed the Jedi's identities. The Jedi attempted to escape and fought with the Nihil, but were stopped by Nihil Tempest Runner Lourna Dee, who the Jedi had believed to have been dead, who used the living weapon known as the Great Leveler against the Jedi.[7] However, Jedi aboard the Ataraxia arrived to Xais to rescue Trennis and Terec, including Jedi Master Sskeer, who aggressively fought and brutalized many of the Nihil.[3] The Jedi managed to rescue Trennis and a partially calcified Terec, but they were unsuccessful in capturing Dee, as she escaped.[5]
