- "It has now been three months since both the defeat of the Drengir and the devastation on Valo. As you know, the Jedi Order has been charged with coordinating the response to both disasters. A response which has been, to date, incredibly successful."
- ―Avar Kriss, in a briefing
Operation: Counterstrike was the counter-piracy military operation conducted by the Republic Defense Coalition and Jedi Order to combat the anarchistic marauders Nihil during the High Republic Era. The operation resulted from the Nihil's devastating raid on the Valo Republic Fair and the Jedi's defeat of the Drengir, and was headed by Jedi Master Avar Kriss.[1] Jedi Knight Keeve Trennis once thought of the operation as the crusade against the Nihil, but she quickly decided that was the wrong phrase and instead thought of it as a response to their threat.[4]
Three months into Operation: Counterstrike, the campaign had been a success for the Republic and Jedi, who had engaged the Nihil on various fronts, including on Carlac, Magaveene, and in the Dreighton Nebula. The Nihil, their forces depleted, were forced to scatter.[1] However, the hidden Eye of the Nihil, Marchion Ro, launched a series of sudden Nihil attacks to spread the Republic thin, allowing the Nihil to bring down the Starlight Beacon.[5]
