Green Isn't Your Color is the twentieth episode of the first season of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. In this episode, Rarity becomes jealous when Fluttershy is picked to be a fashion model instead of her, though Fluttershy secretly loathes the role.
Production[]
In a gallery of photos of Fluttershy, the farthest photo on the right is a slightly modified version of Lauren Faust's original concept art for Fluttershy/Posey.
The episode was #2 in the We Heart Ponies Fan Favorite Mare-a-thon, in the leadup to Hearts and Hooves Day.
A catwalk shot is visually re-used in the season eight episode Fake It 'Til You Make It.
Summary[]
The photo shoot[]
Rarity and Fluttershy meet at the spa for a weekly get-together. Rarity mentions that fashion photographer Photo Finish will be taking pictures of her outfits at Carousel Boutique and presses Fluttershy to model them for her, to which she hesitantly consents.
Later on at the boutique, Rarity puts finishing touches on a stylish dress with the help of Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, and Spike. Spike reveals to Pinkie and Twilight that he has a crush on Rarity and has them promise not to tell anyone. When Twilight treats the revelation lightly, Pinkie warns against breaking a friend's trust, and Twilight affirms her promise to keep the secret.

Photo Finish arrives for the photography session, and Rarity directs Fluttershy to pose with "attitude and pizzaz" before each photo. Photo Finish disapproves of the poses but shows interest every time Fluttershy subsequently draws back in disappointment. The session abruptly ends after a few photos, and as Rarity is left guessing what went wrong, Photo Finish declares she has found the next fashion star and announces another photo shoot at the park the next day.
Fluttershy's rise to stardom[]
Rarity and Fluttershy arrive at the park the following day with a number of outfits prepared for the photo shoot. Photo Finish rejects Rarity's designs, however, indicating that her new "star" is actually Fluttershy. When Fluttershy tries to back out, Rarity insists that she take this opportunity for her sake. Later, when Pinkie Pie and Twilight Sparkle visit her at the Carousel Boutique, Rarity requests to be left alone.
Jealousy begins to set in.
Photo Finish features Fluttershy in a fashion show that brings her instant stardom, and she soon appears in advertisements and fashion magazines. Rarity grows jealous of the attention while Fluttershy tries to evade it, at one point taking refuge at the Carousel Boutique after being chased by fans across town. Rarity feigns feeling happy for her, and the two agree to meet at the spa later before Photo Finish pulls Fluttershy away to another event. Sweetie Drops and Berryshine enter the shop hoping to see Fluttershy but only end up angering Rarity when they claim they’ve never heard of her.
Photo Finish gives a press interview about how happy she is with her new model. When Fluttershy tries to remind her of the spa meetup with Rarity, Photo Finish instead remembers they are due to appear at a ballet opening and carts her off.

After waiting some time at the spa, Rarity assumes that Fluttershy is not coming and confesses to Twilight Sparkle her jealousy and desire to see her friend's modeling career fail. Rarity makes Twilight promise not to divulge her true feelings and then leaves the spa. Fluttershy arrives a moment later and, frustrated about missing the meetup, confides in Twilight that she hates being a model but continues because of Rarity's initial insistence. As Twilight is about to disclose Rarity's secret, Pinkie Pie appears and reminds her of the consequence of breaking a promise.
Later, Fluttershy tells Twilight she wishes ponies didn't like her as much so Photo Finish wouldn't want her to model. This gives Twilight the idea to use her magic behind the scenes during a fashion show to make Fluttershy act unattractively. She shares her idea with Pinkie and swears her to secrecy.
The next fashion show[]
So ungraceful!
At the next fashion show, Fluttershy lets Twilight use magic to make her perform various clumsy and uncouth behaviors on the runway. Photo Finish is aghast at the performance, and the audience begins to boo and jeer. Rarity arrives and, unaware of Twilight's plan, starts lauding Fluttershy's actions as a new kind of modelling. Rarity's flashy outfit wins over the audience members, and the room erupts in applause, leaving Twilight and Fluttershy dismayed.
Revealing the truth[]
Keeping secrets is hard.
In a dressing room after the show, as Twilight Sparkle listens to Fluttershy vent in frustration, Rarity enters and confesses her jealousy but explains she couldn't watch her friend fail at something she loved. Fluttershy reveals her distain for modelling and her assumption that it would disappoint Rarity to quit. Recognizing their mutual misunderstanding, the friends become reconciled. Photo Finish enters and announces six photo shoots scheduled for the next day, only for Fluttershy to refuse all of them and walk out with Rarity. Having just managed to stop herself from sharing her friends' secrets, Twilight blurts out Spike's affection for Rarity, prompting Pinkie Pie to appear and express disappointment.
Later on at the spa, Twilight dictates a friendship report to Spike about how it's important to keep secrets, but that you shouldn't be afraid to share your true feelings with a good friend. Spike is initially upset that Twilight revealed his secret but forgives her when she apologizes. When asked to send the report, Spike claims he is busy as he fans Rarity in the sauna.
