William Kaplan was the son of Rebecca and Jeff Kaplan who was killed in a car crash when he was thirteen. At the same time, Wanda Maximoff was dispelling the Westview Anomaly, which allowed the dying Billy Maximoff to transfer his soul into Kaplan's body.

Biography[]

Bar Mitzvah Ceremony[]

On November 11, 2023,^[3] a thirteen-year-old William Kaplan got dressed for his bar mitzvah ceremony. At the Eastview Synagogue, William took the Torah out of the Ark and walked around the synagogue while the congregants touched their prayer book and tallitot to it. William then engaged in a chant of blessing before he began reading the Torah alongside Rabbi Levin.

At the party, William started dancing with his friends. He left the dance floor upon seeing his father and the two embraced. William was given water as his mother came from behind, stating how proud she was of him. The family then had a laugh as William thanked them for everything. William was pulled away by his friend to the dance floor as they danced to the hora and William was lifted up in his chair.

Later on, William approached a tent for palm readings. When entering, he was greeted by Madame Lilia Calderu, who asked if he was looking behind or ahead, and William answered that he was looking ahead. As Calderu started looking at his palm, he spoke up saying he did not want to know too much. Realizing he startled Calderu, he apologized. Calderu stated that his journey is one of great transformation. She then stopped abruptly as the lights flickered. She soon spoke up, saying his life line was split in two.

However, Calderu assured William that it could mean a lot of things, not just bad. It could simply mean it is a new him. Calderu then stopped again, saying the tower is reversed. A confused William said she was supposed to be reading his palm. A worried Calderu apologized, saying she remembered something. Getting worried himself, William left, saying he should get back to the party. However, he complimented the stand design. Calderu reached out for his hand, simply telling William to pay attention to his life now.^[1]

Death[]

Back at the party, William's hoodie was returned to him as he forgot it in Lilia Calderu's stand. Suddenly, the party was halted as William's father took the stage and stated that because of the situation regarding the Westview Anomaly, everyone had to go home as quickly as possible.

In the car, William watched as his father frantically tried to change the radio as Wanda Maximoff and Vision's voice played. Rebecca Kaplan had to calm him down as she assured him everything would be okay. William then looked down at his hoodie and noticed a wooden sigil was placed in the pocket. He then looked out the window and saw the Hex seemingly shrinking. This distracted his parents as well, and William yelled a warning at this mother.

Rebecca swerved out of the way and drove into a ditch, where William took the full force as they smashed into a tree, subsequently cracking his head on the window. As his parents tried to find help, William's heart beat for the last time and he died.^[1]

Body Taken by Billy Maximoff[]

As the Hex dissipated, Billy Maximoff, the son of Wanda Maximoff, who was also dying as a result of being tied to the Hex, transferred his soul into Kaplan's freshly deceased body, which resurrected the body. Maximoff then embraced Kaplan's identity in public, making Kaplan's parents and acquaintances unaware of Kaplan's true fate.^[1]

Trivia[]

• In the comics, when Mephisto claimed the souls of Thomas and William Maximoff, the twin sons of Scarlet Witch and Vision, William Maximoff's soul was reborn as William "Billy" Kaplan. As a result of possessing William Maximoff's soul, Kaplan was bestowed with magical, reality-altering and electrokinetic powers. Kaplan then became a member of the Young Avengers under the name Asgardian before adopting the alias of Wiccan.

Behind the Scenes[]

• In the comics, Wiccan is not Billy Maximoff, but William "Billy" Kaplan, who had access to Billy Maximoff's powers when Billy Maximoff's soul was reincarnated into his body. However, Jac Schaeffer, the showrunner of Agatha All Along, found the comics history too confusing and decided to simplify the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of events by having William Kaplan die, allowing for Billy Maximoff's soul to migrate into Kaplan's dead body, live his life as Kaplan, and eventually become Wiccan.^[6][7]
