Plot[]
In 2023, William Kaplan gets ready for his long awaited bar mitzvah. At the after party, Kaplan enters a palm reading stand and meets Lilia Calderu, who reads a split life-line in Kaplan's future. However, she assures him everything is okay. Once Kaplan leaves, Calderu conjures a sigil, prohibiting Kaplan from revealing his identity to any witch. Suddenly, Kaplan is told by the Eastview Police Department that they need to go as the Westview Anomaly has gotten increasingly more dangerous.
Now on the road, Rebecca Kaplan comforts Jeff Kaplan, who is stressing about the situation. Out the window, the Hex is depleting and getting smaller, distracting the Kaplan family. William yells as he sees a truck coming at them. In a second, Rebecca swerves off the road, forcing the car into a ditch. The back of the car then smashes into a tree. Rebecca and Jeff wake up and find a fatally injured William. Jeff goes to get help, but it is too late as William dies. However, just then the dying Billy Maximoff's soul transfers into William's body,
At the hospital, Maximoff tries his best to try and figure out what is happening, but he suffers from amnesia, leaving him without both his own memories or William Kaplan's memories. Once Maximoff is discharged, he starts living his life as William Kaplan, unsure of his past, yet wanting to search for answers. He begins faking his recovery as to not worry his parents, but his amnesia remains.
By 2026, Kaplan has embraced his life and met his boyfriend, Eddie. In the car one day, Kaplan accidentally uses his mind reading powers developed from his past life to read Eddie's mind and finds Eddie debating whether to confess his love for Kaplan. Kaplan pushes away for a second before finally opening up about his past and how he does not remember it. The two confess their love before returning to the Kaplan Residence so Kaplan can show his research. Once finished, Kaplan explains that he was meeting with a Reddit user who knew about the Hex.
The next day, Kaplan and Eddie stake out in a parking garage for the Reddit user. Suddenly, they see a mysterious man walking around and blocking the cameras. They then approach the Redditor, named "Bohnerrific69". The user then introduces himself as "Randall", before abruptly saying his name is Ralph Bohner. Bohner starts explaining the Hex and as he does so, Kaplan reads his mind, hearing that Bohner does not want to talk about Agatha Harkness. Therefore, Kaplan asks, annoying Bohner, who eventually talks about the evil witch that had controlled him. He further explains that Harkness is currently in Westview under a spell. Bohner also reveals information about a speedster and son of Wanda Maximoff named Tommy, as well as his mind-reading brother, Billy.
Back at home, Kaplan compiles his notes together, still focusing on his sigil when he hears the music playing: the Ballad of the Witches' Road. This gives Kaplan the idea to break Harkness out of her spell and ask her to take him down the Witches' Road. Kaplan soon drives to Westview and enters Harkness' house through the top floor as he needed to use a personal item. However, as he finds Agatha Harkness' Locket, Harkness finds him and chases Kaplan before capturing him.
In Harkness' house, Kaplan quickly learns that the spell is not only making Harkness believe she is a detective, but it is also filtering his words. Kaplan is soon able to take out his spell book and incants a release spell. Although not working at first, the spell soon begins to break. However, before it does, Harkness traps Kaplan in a closet. A lucid Harkness soon releases Kaplan, who asks for her to take him down the Witches' Road. Harkness originally laughs, but asks his name. Kaplan says his name, but Harkness does not hear it because of the sigil. She asks again, and Kaplan changes his answer to "Billy Maximoff", which Harkness still does not hear, but is intrigued enough to carry on.
In present day, Harkness pulls herself out of the mud and finds Maximoff breaking his sigil. She then approaches him and the two argue, with Harkness mocking and belittling Maximoff. Eventually, Maximoff explains that at the end of the road, he wanted to find Tommy, as he could feel his presence. However, he would not do it with Harkness. The witch does not believe that because Maximoff could not control his power, and Maximoff begrudgingly agrees to carry on with Harkness.

Trivia[]
- The scene in which William Kaplan and Eddie meet with Ralph Bohner in the underground parking garage is a reference to the scenes in All the President's Men in which Bob Woodward (Robert Redford) meets with "Deep Throat" (Hal Holbrook).[1]
- William Kaplan tells Lilia Calderu that her vibe is very "early Argento". This is a reference to the Italian filmmaker Dario Argento, who popularised the giallo genre of horror films. Argento directed The Three Mothers trilogy, consisting of Suspiria, Inferno and Mother of Tears, in which the villains are the ancient malevolent witches Mater Suspiriorum, Mater Tenebrarum and Mater Lachrymarum respectively.[2]
