The Rescue of Captain Vassant was a mission by the United States Air Force to send Falcon to save Vassant from Georges Batroc and LAF.
Background[]
Lead by Georges Batroc, the LAF successfully hijacked a US Air Force Reserve Command plane, killing the pilot and taking Captain Vassant hostage. LAF changed the course of the plane to Libya, since the US military cannot operate in the Libyan airspace. Major Hill of the Air Force enlisted Sam Wilson to participate in the rescue mission to save Vassant while LAF were still in the Tunisian airspace.[1]
Rescue[]
Falcon received a mission briefing, and proceeded to follow the plane hijacked by the LAF, while JoaquĂn Torres provided him with support from the ground. Falcon then had Redwing to cut through the plane's airlock with the laser, so he could break inside and attack the LAF operatives. Falcon managed to take out multiple operatives, using his EXO-7 Falcon wings as a shield to deflect their bullets, however, one some of them ricocheted and killed Louie, leaving the plane without its pilot. Before Falcon went to evacuate Vassant from the crashing plane, he was attacked by Georges Batroc who overpowered him and grabbed Vassant, escaping from the plane with other operatives on wingsuits.
Falcon immediately chased after them in the air, opening a parachute of one of the operatives, rendering him neutralized. Maneuvering through the rocky cliffs of Tunisia, the LAF attempted to escape Falcon's following, before Batroc called two LAF helicopters to bring him down. Using the Redwing, Falcon destroyed one helicopter and pulled the gunman out of the second one, before flying to intercept Batroc. Meanwhile, Batroc and the remaining LAF members reached the third helicopter and headed to the border.
Falcon managed to catch up on them and hit the helicopter, while the LAF operative damaged EXO-7 with a gunshot, so Batroc attempted to escape with Vassant on a wingsuit again. Batroc brought Vassant onto the fourth helicopter, while Torres informed Falcon that they were approaching the Libyan airspace. Batroc then summoned more helicopters to take Falcon out of their way but Falcon was able to use their self-navigating missiles against them. At the last moment, right before Batroc's helicopter reached the Libyan border, Falcon managed to grab Vassant and get him back on the ground.[1]
Aftermath[]
- "I'm not here to join your movement. I just came to kill Falcon."

Sam Wilson and JoaquĂn Torres returned to Tunisia, so Wilson could repair damaged EXO-7 Falcon and discuss the successfully finished mission, as well as the new potential threat of the Flag Smashers. Afterwards, Wilson arrived at Washington, D.C. where he gave away Captain America's Shield as a United States Government property.[1]
Eventually, Georges Batroc joined forces with the Flag Smashers, seeking to take revenge on Wilson. While the Flag Smashers were carrying out their plan to prevent the Global Repatriation Council's ratification of the Patch Act, Batroc attacked Wilson who came to stop them.[3]
