- "I am Loki, Crown Prince of Asgard."
- âLoki to S.H.I.E.L.D.[src]
Loki Laufeyson is the adoptive brother of Thor, who came to Earth to find his brother's killer. Following the successful capture of Yellowjacket, thanks to a brief alliance with Nick Fury, Loki then decided to remain on Earth and became the supreme authority of the planet, though during his invasion, he was subdued and enthralled by Black Widow.
Biography[]
Conflict on Earth[]
Confrontation with S.H.I.E.L.D.[]
With Thor banished to Earth, Loki soon heard that Thor was killed. Angry and devastated, Loki led the Einherjar down to Earth to start a war. Loki demanded to know who killed Thor, but Nick Fury told him that he did not know. In response, Loki took the Casket of Ancient Winters and started destroying the place. Sif got Loki to stop, saying that Odin would want them to hear him out. Loki understood and gave Fury until sunrise to get him the killer.[1]
Fight Against Yellowjacket[]
- "And what of Thor, Prince of Asgard?"
"Goldilocks? You would've recruited him in a heartbeat. Sold him some malarkey about being a hero. That's what you do. What S.H.I.E.L.D.'s always done. Find others to fight your battles!" - âLoki and Hank Pym[src]
Loki was contacted by Nick Fury, who informed him that they discovered the culprit and would allow him to take Thor's killer, Hank Pym, into custody. In exchange, Loki just had to perform a little subterfuge by posing as Fury at San Francisco cemetery to lure the killer in. Loki was given the deceased Avengers candidate names and the name of Pym's deceased daughter, Hope, to bait the killer into admitting his crimes and motive. Per the plan, Pym was lured out; revealing he was lashing out in grief at the loss of his wife and daughter, leaving him alone. Loki listened to Pym's reason for his murders was to make Fury suffer, questioning him about Thor; becoming enraged that there was no reason beyond it due to Pym's insanity. Loki kept up the disguise until deciding to taunt Pym with holograms to disorient him. When the killer attempted to flee, Loki froze his legs and made Pym crash. With the ruse revealed, Loki took Pym into custody; noting that the experience was enjoyable, offering to stay allied with S.H.I.E.L.D.[1]
Asgardian Invasion[]
By the next day, Loki had ended inequality and racial squabbling across the globe. However, when he made his speech at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, Loki made it known that he intended to rule Earth (as Odin couldn't stop him due to being in his regenerative coma; and he outranked his mother Frigga in authority).[1]
Fight Against S.H.I.E.L.D.[]
- "I was told you were dead."
"Same." - âLoki and Black Widow[src]
Sometime later, Loki led his army against S.H.I.E.L.D. and an Avengers team comprised solely of Captain America and Captain Marvel. As he pinned Nick Fury to the floor of the Helicarrier, he was kicked to the face by another universe's Black Widow. He expressed shock, stating that he was told that she was dead. Taking possession of the Scepter, Romanoff used it to subdue Loki.[3]
Personality[]
- "It's the unspoken truth of humanity that you crave subjugation. The bright lure of freedom hobbles you, diminishes your life's joy. You were made to be ruled. So I have come to help you fulfill your destiny."
- âLoki[src]
Loki is a very sneaky and cunning individual. Wanting to become the king of Asgard and beat his brother Thor, he constantly comes up with intricate plans to achieve his goals. He used the death of his brother as an excuse to take the Einherjar to Earth, and conquer it. He will also ally himself with other parties such as S.H.I.E.L.D. to get what he wants, only to betray them later, always doing what's best for him. Despite this, he does appear to have genuinely loved his brother. This was shown when he confronted Pym while disguised as Fury, and he expresses disgust at how Pym murdered Thor simply because he could.
