Biography[]
Early Life[]
John Collins was born on June 30, 1979 and lived in Westview, New Jersey. In 2018, Collins survived the Snap. On July 21 later that year, Collins was issued a drivers' license.[3] In 2023, he was walking through Westview when Wanda Maximoff drove past him. Collins then became enthralled by Maximoff and was part of her Hex.[4]
Westview Anomaly[]
Westview Talent Show[]
In the Westview Anomaly, Collins became known as "Herb Feltman." One day, he attended the Westview Neighborhood Watch meeting, where he first met with Vision. The group spoke about new ideas and Vision helped. Vision then claimed that Norm Gentilucci was a communist, leading to the group laughing at his joke. Feltman then offered Vision a piece of gum, which Vision took, saying it was for mastication. Mistaking his words for "masturbation," Feltman assured everyone he did not do that. He then patted Vision on the back.
Feltman was part of the audience for the Westview Talent Show where he listened to Phil Jones playing his grandmother's piano. Later, Vision and his wife, Wanda Maximoff, did their show. Feltman watched surprised as Vision lifted up the piano with one hand. Maximoff then revealed it was on a cardboard cutout. Vision then walked over to Feltman, mistaking him as Sherbert. He then asked Herb to pick a card, which he did. Vision pulled out the wrong card, repeating it until he got it right. As the show went on, Vision pulled a hat out of himself. Feltman was very confused until Maximoff revealed it was done through mirrors. Vision then brought out a box, so Feltman started a chant, demanding to know what was in the box. They revealed it to be Geraldine.[1]
Enthralled by Agnes O'Connor[]
One day, Feltman greeted Vision while he used a hedge trimmer to cut the wall separating their houses to which Vision found strange. Later, Feltman talked with Agnes O'Connor, who had the powers to enthrall him.[5] They were overheard by Vision, who walked over to talk to them, and O'Connor suggested that Geraldine had secrets, with Feltman telling Vision that Geraldine did not live there, and made him suspicious, but O'Connor cut him off before he could continue.[6]
Halloween[]
- "Is there something I can do for you, Wanda? Do you want something changed?"
- âHerb Feltman to Wanda Maximoff[src]
While watching over the neighborhood on "Halloween," Feltman was approached by Wanda Maximoff and had a talk with her. As they were talking, Feltman was contacted by someone and was told about someone messing up with stuff, such as smashing the pumpkins and covering everyone in silly string. Maximoff then asked him how the Westview Neighborhood Watch was going and offered Vision's assistance; however, Feltman said Vision was not assigned that day. Seeing a confused look on Maximoff's face, he then asked if she wanted him to change anything, but she told him it was okay, and he walked off.[7]
Released[]
- "I used to try to resist you, but now I can't remember why. Do you?... I wanna get back home."
- âJohn Collins to Wanda Maximoff[src]
Collins was released from being enthralled by Agatha Harkness along with the other Westview civilians. Collins then confronted Wanda Maximoff and begged for freedom. However, Maximoff got overwhelmed by the situation and suffocated Collins and the citizens with her powers, but was soon freed and witnessed the Hex breaking apart. The Hex was then taken down and Collins, along with many other angry citizens, watched as Maximoff left Westview.[8] The FBI soon arrived and Collins talked to an agent.[9]
Agnes O'Connor's Neighbor[]
True Crime Delusion[]
- "Well, you've mostly been a good neighbor. A bit too casual with your boundaries..."
"Call me nosy, I'll cut out your tongue."
"Yeah. You haven't been yourself the past few days. Almost like you got bit by the true crime bug." - âJohn Collins and Agatha Harkness[src]
As three years went by, Collins got along with his neighbor, Agnes O'Connor, who he thought was a bit weird and crazy. O'Connor eventually went off the deep end as she started thinking she was a Westview Police Department detective. Furthermore, she believed Collins was a forensics expert. Collins and the rest of the town would appease her and play along. A few days later, Collins was tending to his plants when a very rude and disheveled O'Connor walked outside completely naked.
Collins was caught off-guard and tried to cover his sight of O'Connor's chest with his hand. O'Connor demanded to know how long she had been in Westview, to which a confused Collins told her it had been three years. Upon hearing this, O'Connor remarked it was due to Wanda Maximoff. Collins told her that he and the Westview residents tried not to say her name. O'Connor called him a coward then demanded to know what she had been doing the whole time. Collins told her she had mostly been a good neighbor, but she had not been herself the past couple days. Collins then gave O'Connor his jacket to cover herself up with only for her to throw it on the ground. Collins finally remarked that she seemed different and more powerful.[2]

Late at night, Collins was bringing groceries from his car to his house when he suddenly saw a hooded figure. Spooked, Collins turned to a teenage boy on the street, asking him if he was seeing what was happening. Suddenly, the single figure turned into seven, causing Collins to drop his groceries and run inside.[10]
