"I'm just saying, I don't remember you two taking a little vacation."
"What? Not even a honeymoon?"
"I was in the middle of a mission. I had to get back to Johannesburg."
―Alphonso Mackenzie, Daisy Johnson and Bobbi Morse[src]

Johannesburg is the largest city in South Africa.

History[]

S.H.I.E.L.D. Mission[]

Bobbi Morse could not go on her honeymoon with Lance Hunter because she was in the middle of a mission in Johannesburg.[1]

Ultron Offensive[]

Duel of Johannesburg[]

Hulk and Hulkbuster Punch

Iron Man fights against the Hulk

The Avengers soon went to South Africa to investigate Ulysses Klaue's cache of vibranium, predicting Ultron would come to meet him. As the meet escalated into a fight between the Avengers and Ultron, Wanda Maximoff targeted Bruce Banner and forced him to turn into Hulk using her mental manipulation powers.

Under her control, Hulk started destroying the city of Johannesburg, engaging directly with the South African Police Service until Iron Man locked him inside using Veronica's self-assembling electrified cage. Iron Man donned his Hulkbuster armor in response and fought with Hulk in an attempt to neutralize him, severely damaging Johannesburg's infrastructure. Eventually, the duel ended once Iron Man knocked the Hulk unconscious, but the damage it caused was severe. The Avengers regrouped, forced into hiding, as reports of the incident plagued social media.[2]

Clean Up[]

WHIH204-03

Johannesburg in peril

Johannesburg was among the cities noted by WHiH News anchor Christine Everhart to be still "on the mend," as a result of the incidents involving the Avengers, in part due to their tactical response, as late as May 3, 2016 when the issue of the Avengers' management and responsibility was being discussed.[3]
