Peter Jason Quill is the young son of Ego, making him a Celestial-Human hybrid. He was sired so his father would have help from another Celestial being for the process of the Expansion, so when Ego realized Quill inherited his father's powers, he was taken from Earth to him in order to awaken these powers and return to Earth in order to conquer it and terraform the planet into an extension of Ego himself. However, following a heart-to-heart with Ant-Man, Quill realized the error of his ways and joined the Avengers in battling his father; at the end of the battle, Quill used the power from Ego's own celestial seedling to destroy his corporeal form.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Born on Earth to Meredith Quill, who died of cancer while he was still a child, the young Quill was abducted by Ravagers led by Yondu Udonta on the orders of Ego, his biological father who wanted to use his powers to achieve his expansion. Quill was delivered to Ego, who helped him to master his Celestial powers.[2]
Ego's Expansion[]
Arrival on Earth[]
- "Dude, feed me a corn dog and call me Springsteen, because I was born in the USA. Why else do you think I'd fly 10,000 light-years to get here? In a ship, by the way, with no tape deck. I'm just trying to get home."
- âPeter Quill to Hope van Dyne[src]
Fleeing from his father, Quill used a spaceship and laid waste to several systems, including Asgard and Jotunheim, unleashing powerful outbursts of cosmic energy, until he was able to return to his home planet: Earth. With the US Air Force being unable to stop him, he crashed in the middle of New York City and emerged unscathed from his journey. He was immediately confronted by NYPD officers that were surprised by his appearance, and manifested hostility by levitating and blowing up their cars. He then wreaked havoc across Manhattan, which caused the authorities to assemble the Avengers.
Quill then headed to Coney Island, dealing heavy damage near an amusement park which caught his attention. Entering the park, he picked up a stuffed raccoon before blowing up the cabin he was standing in front of. He then enjoyed some time on a tilt-a-whirl, where he was attacked by a swarm of ants sent by Ant-Man. Afraid, he ran away from the insects, arriving inside a house of mirrors where Black Panther ambushed him with a photon grid trap. However, the device's activation caused Quill's stuffed raccoon to lose its head, greatly angering Quill who devastated the house of mirrors in a sudden rage outburst, driving away Black Panther.
Quill was also attacked by Goliath, but repelled him as well, before being targeted by the Winter Soldier piloting the Asis. Quill fired energy balls at the aircraft, missing it but hitting and destroying the spaceship that had been reclaimed by Wendy Lawson. As he was too much of a threat, Quill caused the Avengers to retreat, being barely affected by the Winter Soldier's grenade launcher. Quill then placed the Asis under his control, but before he could strike it down, he was hit by a massive lighting bolt manifested by Thor. Mistaking him for Eddie Van Halen, Quill fainted, enabling his capture by the Avengers.[2]
Escape from the Avengers[]
- "I want you to have this."
"What? No way. This was your mom's."
"Look, it's a long ride to Missouri, and she'd be glad to know I'm sharing." - âHope van Dyne and Peter Quill[src]
Quill was imprisoned inside a S.H.I.E.L.D. Detention Cell while the Avengers discussed what they should do with him. He was approached by the young Hope van Dyne listening to music on her walkman, and noticed that she was enjoying one of his mother's favourite songs. Quill and van Dyne bonded over their love of music and the fact that they both had lost their mothers, which led to Quill being released from custody by van Dyne who used Pym Particles to reduce the size of his cell and open it before returning Quill to his normal size. Before parting ways, Quill was given van Dyne's walkman as a token of friendship.
Quill took a bus to travel to Missouri, refusing to listen to Ego trying to communicate with him. He headed to the graveyard where his mother was buried and knelt in front of her grave. There, unaware that he was being targeted by the Winter Soldier, he was approached by Ant-Man, to whom he explained that Ego was the true responsible for the damage Quill had perpetrated across the universe as he could control him. Quill also voiced his disappointment at the idea that he did not feel as he had returned home due to his mother's absence. As Ant-Man expressed his sympathy and shared his sorrow, Quill agreed to join the Avengers and help them against Ego, sharing a hug with Ant-Man.[2]
Confronting His Father[]
With his new objective in mind, Quill boarded the Asis which soon flied to the Mojave Desert where the Avengers were on the verge of being annihilated by Ego. Using Ant-Man's size manipulation powers, Quill was able to retrieve the Celestial seedling that Ego needed to achieve his expansion on Earth, and infiltrated the mountain which Ego had built around himself. Quill then confronted his father, who admitted that he had killed Quill's mother to ensure his own plans.
Quill soon retaliated by destroying the seedling and absorbing its energy and, as Ego called him a disappointment, Quill corrected him by calling himself Star-Lord and unleashed a massive stream of cosmic energy at Ego, destroying his body and saving the Avengers in the process. In the wake of their victory, he shared another affectionate hug with Ant-Man before joining the team for a celebratory meal at the Pym Residence, where Quill, further befriending Hope van Dyne, was introduced to Goose, even though he admitted that he preferred dogs over cats. As Thor set out to journey into space to destroy Ego's planet that remained intact, Quill was among the team that decided to go with him.[2]
Abduction[]
Along with countless other Universe destroyers and heroes, Quill was kidnapped by Doctor Strange, who kept him in a cell in the Sanctum Infinitum and planned on sacrificing them all to the Forge to recreate the universe he had previously destroyed. However, Quill was prevented from succumbing to this fate thanks to Captain Carter and Kahhori, who sent him home, and who were able to force Strange to give up on his plans.[3]
Personality[]
Far from the hostile invader S.H.I.E.L.D. believed him to be upon his return to Earth, Quill actually is first and foremost a lonely young boy who deeply misses his mother, with Watcher mentioning that his pain had the potential to destroy a whole universe. As he explained to Hope van Dyne who he quickly befriended thanks to their shared appreciation of music and the fact that they both had lost their mothers, his arrival on Earth simply stemmed from his wish to find a place he could call home. However, Quill explained to Ant-Man that even his homeland of Missouri did not feel like home since his mother no longer lived there. Quill expressed sensitivity towards Ant-Man's own grief regarding the loss of his wife, leading to Quill accepting to help him and the Avengers defeat Ego. Indeed, Quill had no real affection towards his father, refusing to talk to him after he left, rendering him responsible for the wake of pure destruction Quill had unleashed onto several solar systems, and being enraged at the idea that he had killed his mother only to ensure the success of his own expansion. As such, when he got rid of Ego's influence which could lead him to wreak havoc whenever he was angry, Quill demonstrated that, aside of his Celestial powers, he remained a sensitive boy (as proven by his reluctance to accept van Dyne's walkman as gift since he did not want to take something that belonged to her mother), capable of love, friendship and empathy, who enjoyed the same things as other boys his age like spending time in an amusement park.
Powers[]
- "This kid has an entire nuclear arsenal coursing through his veins."
- âPeggy Carter[src]
- Hybrid Physiology: As a hybrid of both human and Celestial heritage, Quill wields all the powers and weaknesses by both species, which was also enhanced after he absorbed the seedling planted by Ego into the Earth.
- Superhuman Strength: To be added
- Superhuman Durability: As a hybrid of human and Celestial origin, Quill is one of the most resilient entities in the entire universe, being able to withstand multiple different armies across hundreds of planets, as well as direct attacks from the Avengers; however, he was overpowered by Thor's lightning until he fell unconscious.
- Regenerative Healing Factor: To be added
- Immortality: To be added
- Cosmic Energy Manipulation: Due to his heritage as both human and Celestial, Quill has the power to control and manipulate pure cosmic energy much like his father. However, Peter's power has been displayed to be weaker than Ego's full potential, although this weakness seems to be temporarily suppressed when Peter absorbed a fragment of Ego's power. Peter displayed immense control over his cosmic power, giving him the potential to not only overpower Ego but to also destroy his corporeal form, rendering Ego formless.
- Molecular Manipulation: To be added
- Telekinesis: Quill demonstrated the ability to manipulate physical matter to move it with only a motion or desire to do so, therefore allowing him to move anything from a plushie to full sized police cars. Upon his conflict with the Avengers on Coney Island, he used his power to prevent the Avengers from retreating in the Asis, although he needed concentration, which broke upon being struck down by Thor.
Equipment[]
Other Equipment[]
- "That her Walkman? It's just, you're holding on to it pretty tight. I know if I still had mine, I'd probably be doing the same."
- âPeter Quill to Hope van Dyne[src]
- Walkman: Quill owned a Walkman he enjoyed listening to music with, as his mother had passed onto him her passion for music. However, the walkman was destroyed by Ego upon meeting him for the first time, as Ego told Quill that he would soon have many other things to play with.
- Hope van Dyne's Walkman: Upon parting ways after she helped him escape from S.H.I.E.L.D., Quill was given her walkman by Hope van Dyne with whom he had quickly built a friendship. Quill initially attempted to refuse the gift since it used to belong to her her mother, only for van Dyne to insist as she was eager to share her belongings with Quill.
Vehicles[]
- "This tech's advanced."
- âWendy Lawson[src]
- Spaceship: Quill used an incredibly advanced spaceship to travel across the universe, visiting and destroying several solar systems including the Nine Realms before crashing onto Earth. Although damaged, the ship could still be operated as Wendy Lawson was able to commandeer it, but it was destroyed by Quill during the skirmish at Coney Island after he missed the Asis.

Behind the Scenes[]
- Peter Quill and Hope van Dyne were the first characters suggested by A.C. Bradley to be in their episode centered around Quill being delivered to Ego, which was mandated by Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum, as both were dealing with the loss of their respective mothers at the same time. The rest of the episode's Avengers team was built around their presence in the episode.[4]
